Whitney Houston was born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, in a talented singing family. Her career as a singer began in the local gospel choir but she quickly graduated to back up singing with the likes of Lou Rawls and Chaka Khan, when she also worked as a model. At 18, Whitney recorded with Arista Records, producing the album, 'Whitney Houston' with 'Saving All My Love For You’, which help her a Grammy Award. Her second album, 'Whitney', was the first album by a woman to enter at number one in the charts and the others singles all made #1 in the Billboard chart. She began singing solo’s at New Bethel Church. At the age of fourteen Aretha’s talent for singing was recognized by her father, and he started managing her shortly after, so he could get her a recording deal. She started off by going on the road with her father and singing at various churches while he preached. This resulted in Aretha Franklin getting signed to her first record deal with J.V.B. Records Label. Her first studio album was titled “Songs Of Faith”. Although this did not put her on the map as the Queen of Soul. Everyone knew Aretha was incredibly talented at a very young age. At twelve years old, Aretha cut her first record on her first solo for Chess Records. After that she went on tour with her father. In 1960, Aretha came to New York and took dancing and vocal lessons (Moritz 132). She signed a five-year contract with Columbia Records one year later in 1961 (Moritz 132). While at Columbia Records, she recorded nine long-playing albums, only selling moderately (Moritz 132). Toward the end of 1966 Aretha turned down an offered renewed contract by Columbia, signing with Atlantic Records instead (Moritz 133). Aretha had “a reputation of being difficult to handle” in the early part of her career according to Phyl Garland of Ebony in 1967 (Moritz 133-134). She caused a small riot when she walked out of a concert in Denver because she was only paid half of what she was promised (Moritz 134).
On multiple instances she was accused of using drugs. In 2000 tabloids said that there had been marijuana found in her luggage. Many other times it had been said that she was in rehab and one time or other. Leading up to her death she was planning on attending pre Grammy party held by her mentor Clive Davis. Her assistant Mary Jones left to get a package and was to return later.
Bobbi Kristina passed away at the age of 22. According to CNN, July 27, 2015, Bobbi Krisitna left this world surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Bobbi Brown and the late Whitney Houston. The Houston family released a statement, “She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.” On January 31, 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found face down and unresponsive in her bathtub, by Max Lomas. While Max dialed 911, her unofficial husband Nick Gordon administered CPR. She was transported to the North Fulton Hospital in Roswell, Georgia. They placed her on a ventilator. They pronounced her brain dead, so the family moved her to the Emory University
