I had read a story long time ago in which the main character, attacked by someone at night, wonders about who might have assaulted him even though he had no enemy but concludes that everyone around him could have reason to hurt him. The UCPN (Maoist) finds itself in that character’s predicament after the recent election debacle.
But there is a major difference between the story character and Maoist leaders: The former quietly pondered while the latter have been making hue and cry about domestic and foreign players playing foul in the election. So much so that the Maoists have announced that they would boycott CA II if their complaint about the election fraud were not properly addressed.
The election turned out to be a big shock for the

The domestic players are known: The Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML). The usual external suspects are India and Western countries.
Of course, India prodded Nepal to go for the polls at the earliest and helped organize them with equipment and materials. But it apparently did not try to influence the outcome as such. India did not help Madheshi parties, even though Rajendra Mahato, the Sadbhavana Party leader, has said their defeat was India’s defeat.
There is no indication, let alone proof, that Western countries tried to shape the election result. Why should they? They are sympathetic to the Maoist proposal to carve Nepal into an ethnic federal state. And they do not have the kind of network India has in Nepal to influence Nepalese elections, even if they wanted.
Let us stretch the net and include China as a potential suspect because it is wary about the ethnic division of states in a federal Nepal. But Beijing would not want to defeat the ideologically closest kin that is also most sympathetic to its most vital interest in Nepal: Control anti-China activities of Tibetan refugees.
Put it differently, the conspiracy by national and foreign elements does not wash.
That leaves voters disaffection as the only valid and overwhelming reason behind the Maoist electoral meltdown. As the largest party in the CA I, the Maoists could not deliver good government and a new constitution. Government was corrupt and ineffective and the constitution
The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao’s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009).
In the country there is some political unrest between the major parties such as the largest party in Nepal, the Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist–Leninist), which is the second largest, and the third, the Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). It was most prevalent in 1996 as the Communist party of Nepal launched a civil war that lasted 10 years and claimed the lives of 13,000 lives . This conflict led to an agreement between parties to keep the civil unrest quelled, and in turn
Bob Fu conveys clearly the inexorable control that Communist leaders in China have over their people. For example, after Fu and his friends participated in the Tiananmen Square protests, Fu was coerced, day in day out, to write a confession of his purported misdeeds against China and her people as a “counterrevolutionary” (79-82, 85, 87).
In this country, we hold elections every four years to select the president. The founding fathers of our country established the electoral college to give the original thirteen states a fair voice in the election process. This country electoral called the electoral college into question on more the one occasion. In the most recent election, President-elect Donald Trump won the electoral vote over Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. This election has sent the country into an uproar and citizens of the United States are now challenging the legitimacy of the electoral college process. This paper will examine whether this process is reliable and valid when choosing the leadership of this country.
The Indian resistance against the British empire is one example of opposition against imperialism. Until 1858, India was controlled by the British East India Company. Thereafter, the crown rule replaced the company rule until 1947. “The slow expansion of the Indian role in public affairs would not have occurred without mounting political pressure from Indian society” (Findley 188). The people of India had tried to cause a reform through a political channel, evident through the slow yet steady participation in political affairs from 1858-1947. In this resistance,
It is hard to believe that it will be a year since the Bush vs. Gore campaign was in it’s
In the case of politics in Africa and India, both were completely different because of how they were ruled by the European nations. In Africa the natives thought they had political power, but the reality was that all politics, and decisions were made by the European’s. The natives thought that the leaders, and chiefs were making the decisions, but the indirect governing style the Europeans were using on their territories was to do exactly this. They tricked the public to keep the peace and avoided any revolts or rebellion from taking place in the country. The same cannot be said about India though. In India the direct governing style was in place. This meaning that all the previous leaders, and officials were replaced by the European officials,
When Americans vote their choice for President, one would assume that these votes would be tabulated and the majority vote would win. But this is not the case at all. The Presidency is ultimately decided by the Electoral College, what William McClenaghan calls “one of the least understood parts of the American political process”(340). McClenaghan also defines the Electoral College as “the body that makes the formal selection of the nation’s President, from what the Framers intended into a `rubber stamp’ for the popular vote in presidential elections”(67). The original Electoral College did not succeed for very long, however; it only worked for as long as George Washington was President
The United States presidential election in the year 2000 between George W. Bush and Al Gore was one of the closest finishes in our country’s history. In addition to the election being so tightly contested, the election also provided an in depth look at the inner workings of our political process. There are 538 electors in the United States Electoral College, thus to win the presidency a candidate must receive the majority vote of at least 271 electoral votes. In the case of the presidential election of 2000, George W. Bush received 271 electoral votes and Al Gore received 266, thus George W. Bush achieved the majority and was eventually sworn in as the 43rd president of the United States. However, there were some unusual occurrences in the
Back in 2000, the presidential election was decided by 537 votes in Florida. According to the New York Times, there were 620,000 Floridians barred from voting that were convicted of a felony, regardless of the crime committed. That’s a large poll of Floridians that didn’t get to exercise their right to vote. Had those 620,000 Floridians voted, the 2000 presidential elections may have had a different outcome. It is very important that all Americans exercise their right to vote to ensure we the people select the right representatives in office. There are certain felony crimes that should absolutely ban those said individuals their right to vote, but there are other crimes that are not as serious that should not impact those said individuals their right to vote. The 2000 elections were just and example of how
The data obtained for this project has been gathered from the American National Election Studies, better known for short as “ANES.” Before continuing it is best to give some background information of the American National Election Studies, and why they are a reliable source for information. From the ANES website, they explain, “The mission of the American National Election Studies is to inform explanations of election outcomes by providing data that support rich hypothesis testing, maximize methodological excellence, measure many variables, and promote comparisons across people, contexts, and time” (ANES). ANES is a reliable source for data because it is used by many other social scientists. Many experiments conducted by other researchers have relied solely on the data from the American National Election Studies. The data source that is being used throughout this paper, are results from the American National Election Studies data file for 2012 (ANES, 2012). The ANES is an academic survey and a reputable source, which allows for investigation into how variables such as income, race and education has an impact on party identification.
He worked well when Sandra had to leave for a month and when Santosh was sick and had to go to the hospital. The volunteers were forced to work together many times and they were capable of being successful at doing their duties. At one point, it seemed that everything was going against them but they continued onward. For example, a riot called Bandha occurred and the volunteers were forced to teach a subject for a day. Conor was forced to teach his worst subject, Science but with the help of a student, Santosh, he was able to teach them the water cycle. Overall, the teams worked well together and were able to help the Princes to their best standards.
He shows how the party has a strong emphasis on unity within the elite, by concentrating most of their political power within the hands of the few. He goes on to highlight the fact that there is enduring stress on secrecy within these top leaders, and is impressed with their ability to maintain their political institutions and authoritarian powers, while foregoing their old Maoist leadership styles. One example he uses is while they have opted for a capitalist economy, they are still heavily focused on maintaining their state-run
The ultimate source of political power in the United States lays in the people as we carry out our civic responsibilities. By voting Americans can choose who they trust as a national leader, but the candidate can choose the kind of people who chooses them. Politicians have believed that citizens are illegally meddling with elections by either increasing or decreasing the votes of a favored candidate, but if such a crime exists, and there are many ways of doing so, why is it difficult to find evidence of it.
Indian students find it easier to communicate with the people of this country as Nepal is English and Hindi speaking region. The food habits are similar to India and the weather condition is moderate, making the country a suitable destination to study MBBS course. There is no need for VISA to travel to Nepal for medical education. There are authorized offices in India associated with medical colleges in Nepal that help Indian students seeking MBBS admission in Nepal with emergencies and other general information.
