The cultural revolution is a strange period in Chinese history laced with intense struggle and anguish. The cultural revolution mobilized the all of society to compete for all opposing factions that they belonged to (Ong, 2016). Mao mobilized the young people of society during a background of political turmoil, which helped Mao to mobilize the students in order to enforce his political legitimacy and ideas (Ong, 2016). Mao’s charismatic authority created his personality cult and most defiantly leant a helping hand in mobilizing the red guard movement (Ong, 2016) (Weber, 1946) (Andreas, 2007). No matter which faction of the red guard they belonged to, they all mobilized against their common enemy; the better off, upper class. (Ong, 2016). Multiple ideologies within the youth led red guard movement explain why the movement gained momentum and became incredibly powerful (Walder, 2009).

In this country, we hold elections every four years to select the president. The founding fathers of our country established the electoral college to give the original thirteen states a fair voice in the election process. This country electoral called the electoral college into question on more the one occasion. In the most recent election, President-elect Donald Trump won the electoral vote over Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote. This election has sent the country into an uproar and citizens of the United States are now challenging the legitimacy of the electoral college process. In the case of politics in Africa and India, both were completely different because of how they were ruled by the European nations. In Africa the natives thought they had political power, but the reality was that all politics, and decisions were made by the European’s. According to the New York Times, there were 620,000 Floridians barred from voting that were convicted of a felony, regardless of the crime committed. The data obtained for this project has been gathered from the American National Election Studies, better known for short as “ANES.” Before continuing it is best to give some background information of the American National Election Studies, and why they are a reliable source for information. From the ANES website, they explain, “The mission of the American National Election Studies is to inform explanations of election outcomes by providing data that support rich hypothesis testing, maximize methodological excellence, measure many variables, and promote comparisons across people, contexts, and time” (ANES). ANES is a reliable source for data because it is used by many other social scientists. Many experiments conducted by other researchers have relied solely on the data from the American National Election Studies. The data source that is being used throughout this paper, are results from the American National Election Studies data file for 2012 (ANES, 2012). The ANES is an academic survey and a reputable source, which allows for investigation into how variables such as income, race and education has an impact on party identification.

The ultimate source of political power in the United States lays in the people as we carry out our civic responsibilities. By voting Americans can choose who they trust as a national leader, but the candidate can choose the kind of people who chooses them. Politicians have believed that citizens are illegally meddling with elections by either increasing or decreasing the votes of a favored candidate, but if such a crime exists, and there are many ways of doing so, why is it difficult to find evidence of it.
