Some people believe Lincoln was the greatest president. However, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt led our country at times when a great leader was needed. Franklin D. Lincoln wasn't scared to stand up and fight for what he knew was right. He was convinced that within the branches of government, the presidency alone was empowered not only to uphold the Constitution, but also to protect, and defend it. Lincoln was able to lead our country and preserve the Union, keeping the United States from splintering during the devastating times of the Civil War. When Lincoln was elected there was a long series of policy clashes between the South and the North. The clash wasn’t just about slavery. It was a clash of elites. The Northern elite wanted economic expansion. Such as, free land; free labor, free market, and much more. Lincoln had all of this in mind, even the slaves. The slaves saw Lincoln as their ticket to freedom. The South was for slavery, so when they notice Lincoln was trying to abolish slavery they started to secede from the union. Lincoln tried to get some of the states back and more seceded. The confederacy was formed; the civil war was on.

Looking at what Thomas Jefferson accomplished as president of the United States is absolutely mind boggling. In order to be considered a great president you must be loyal, trustworthy, resemble great leadership, and be able to truly take the lead. Falling under each category, Thomas Jefferson was definitely the greatest president. Thomas Jefferson was the greatest president because he was the author of the declaration of independence, obtained the Louisiana Purchase, and wrote The Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom. Andrew Jackson was the only president who not only balanced the national budget, but also paid off the national debt. He also abolished the National Bank of the United States which was a front for wealthy bankers to print fiat money and control and manipulate the national economy as they do through the Federal Reserve today. He also advocated high tariffs to promote American industry and staying out of foreign alliances/entanglements. Jackson also is the only President who has stood up to the U.S. Supreme Court and refused to comply with an ruling he considered illegal and unconstitutional.

Think about the current president...now let me tell you about a better president. Abraham Lincoln was the best president the United States has ever had because he helped put an end to slavery in our country by creating the Emancipation Proclamation, and preventing the nation from splitting apart by deciding to fight the civil war. During the civil war there was around 31 million people in the United States, 13% of the total population in the united states was a slave which is around 4 million. Abraham Lincoln was strongly against slavery and felt it should be abolished.

All of the preisdents play such an important role that helps our country. They all do such great work but there is one president who sticks out and his acheivements are so great that makes him the best. That man is Thomas Jefferson.

Throughout our nation's history it has endured 43 presidents,some of them have been remembered as great men who served our country well and made it a better place. Others are more well known for the scandals they caused and others are hardly remembered at all. Despite the amount of presidents that we have had there has never been a president who stands out as the best president ever. Although there are two presidents from the post world war 2 era, each from two separate parties that I believed both had some of the skills to be the best president ever.
