How could someone live in hiding for over two years? Anne Frank did just that with her family and another family. Anne Frank was only fifteen when she died but she still wrote a life-changing book that many people have read. Anne's diary reveals a young girl with a promising future as a writer (“Anne Frank 2”). Anne was born in Germany and moved to Amsterdam to pursue a life in hiding. Even though Anne had a very short life, she wrote a diary that has created its own legacy for her.

No one knows who it was and how they found out. Anne, Edith and Margot were given the numbers between A-25060 and A-25271. Anne's mom died from starvation at Auschwitz in early 1945. Peter, Anne's friend, died at a concentration camp in Austria. Anne's father was the only member of their group to survive. He was liberated from Auschwitz by Soviet troops in January 1945. Anne and Margot Frank survived death at Auschwitz and were sent to Bergen-Belsen. They died there from typhus and their bodies were thrown into a mass grave.

Most people don't know this but Margot also kept a diary. Anne was inspired to write a diary by the Dutch government so later people would know what life was like under the Nazis (“Anne Frank 1”). The Diary of Anne Frank is a remarkably moving book about the short life of a young girl and her family. The Holocaust was a horrible time for Jewish people and Anne and her Jewish family’s lives were completely turned upside down as a result. The war resulted in the deaths of countless people, mostly innocent people. Before the invasion on D-day and the end of the war not too long after, the rest of the world didn’t know the real disaster going on over seas. Almost a year before Anne got her diary her family started to look for a hiding place. July 5th, 1944 they went into hiding after getting a letter to work in a German camp they called their now new home, Secret Annex. They were in hiding for two years and one month. Anne struggled to fit in with the people around her and developed depression. “On September 16, 1943, Anne admitted that she has started taking drops of valerian for her anxiety and depression,”(About.com Education). On August 4th, 1944 they were all found and sent to a camp. That October Anne died of typhus about a month later everyone was sent free. Although Anne Frank had help from brave people, she was sadly not one of the lucky Holocaust survivors. Others children, however, were luckier.

Then the police found them and took them to transport camp. From there, they were taken to a labor camp. They were seperated by gender and never saw each other again. Anne and Margot were taken to another camp after they got sick. Margot died a few weeks later, followed by Anne, who had survived just days before their camp was freed by the Allies. Everyone perished except for Anne's father, Otto Frank. He went back to their hiding space to see if anything had been salvaged and he saw Anne's diary. In it were stories and everything that had happend while she was there. He published it in honor of Anne and died many years later.

Margot and Anne found out about her mother's death, when Anne was hastily taken out of hiding, she did not grab her diary hence why it still exists today. In late February to early March, Margot also died from the same illness, although Anne did not know of her sister’s demise, many say that she felt. Only a few weeks later Anne died from the same disease as her sister and mother did.
