Who Is Atticus In To Kill A Mockingbird

Although they are critiqued, some people do whatever they can do to improve our society. In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Atticus Finch proves himself to be a hero. This small-town lawyer exhibits bravery, strength, and modesty when faced with objection during Maycomb’s quarrel for justice. Without a doubt, Atticus proves that anybody can stand for what he or she believes is right.

It took an unimaginable amount of courage for Atticus to take the Tom Robinson case knowing he and his children would be harassed by all the other townspeople. For instance, when “My folks said your daddy was a disgrace an' that nigger oughta hang from the water tank” (105). Also, Atticus knew he had a very low chance of succeeding in winning the case, but he took it anyways. He knows the town will think differently about him solely because he is defending a black man. He also knows that his children will be shown a lot of hatred. Even knowing this, Atticus takes the case and tries his best. Not only did he know he would take hatred, he also knew he would lose. But, he knew this case would define who he was “every lawyer gets at least one case in his lifetime that affects him personally”(96). While talking to the Judge he knows that he will most likely not win, but that does not change his mind. He knows just because Tom Robinson is black that he will not win. The Jury will see the white man who claims his white daughter was raped and believe him with no doubt. No matter what Atticus says to try to change the jury’s mind, he knows he can only try his best. They decided to bring a change in the society. King and Gandhi fought for their own rights and freedom. Lots of people get influenced by a person and make him as a leader, So he can do all the work for them while others were lazy. So this shows that a person can change a society. In “To kill a mocking bird” by Harper lee, in the county of Macomb, Atticus a lawyer defending a black man at that point of the time is changing the society. So lee clearly sends this message to his readers by using Atticus and some other characters in To Kill Mockingbird.

In the novel 'To Kill a Mockingbird' two important characters influence each other significantly over the course of the book. The book is set in the 1930's in the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama. The novel is centered around a young girl named Scout and the events that developed her into a mature you lady. Scout develops greatly alongside her father, Atticus, who teaches Scout, along with her friends and family that life can teach you a lot of lessons, if you know where to look. Scout changes from a naïve, impulsive young girl to a mature young lady that ,with her new understanding of the world, influences the those around her. Atticus has learnt that humans are not faultless and not all of them share his moral values.

Atticus, the father of Jem and Scout, is a complex character from Harper Lee’s, To Kill a Mockingbird. A complex character, also known as a Dynamic or Round character, undergoes a change as the plot unfolds. Atticus, as the story unfolds, becomes authoritative , serious, and grateful.

Rickey Williams says, “I don’t think people change. I think the essence of what I am today is the same as when I was five years old. It’s just maturity.” (Ricky, Williams). In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the characters face many challenges in their society and experience lessons that made them different, than from the beginning of the book. Atticus, the father of Scout and Jem, is a lawyer in Maycomb County during the 1930’s. Atticus is given a special case where he has to defend a black man, which creates many problems for him and his family against their town, dealing with racism. In the novel Atticus, Scout, and Jem are all wise people that symbolize a mockingbird.

Imagine a world filled with hard working and loving people. In today’s society we lack love and empathy. Many people are lackadaisical and not determined to succeed in life. In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird the character Atticus represents a hero by demonstrating patience and love.

Some have more courage than others do. In the book To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, Atticus, a father of two and lawyer, stands up for a colored man in a court of law. At first, the readers just see him as a studious, quiet father, who has unique parenting strategies, but as the book progresses, Atticus's character grows. His courage, honesty, boldness, and scruples shape his life. In the trial with Tom Robinson, this shows especially. His determination to create the best case he can even though the odds are stacked against him, show the perseverance and strength of mind he has. Throughout To Kill a Mocking Bird Atticus's character grows as a genuine, brave, godly, man.

Throughout the book there were many people who had an impact on Scout’s learning and the changes she has made. One of the many people to have an effect on Scout’s learning in the book was her father Atticus. An important thing Atticus teaches Scout is tolerance.

There are many people in this world that do good things that others don’t like because of who they are. Many people do things that would make themselves feel good inside but others bad inside. Tom Robinson is a black man who is married and went to trial for opposable raping a white girl named Mayella Ewell. Thinking about a situation from some else point a view, may make it easier to understand where they’re coming from and may accept their actions. A lot of people judge someone by how the person’s is dress or they rumors they heard about that person, but if they can walk in their shoes they can understand them which is what Atticus in To Kill A Mockingbird did. A character in To Kill a Mockingbird named Atticus was the only character that looks past someone’s skin colored or rumors but looks at their point a view and be able to help them at a difficult time and that’s why Atticus is important to the story. Throughout the story Atticus has being showing character traits such as being brave, understanding and kindhearted.

In this novel, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, mockingbirds are portrayed as generous, kind, and innocent. In comparison, both birds and humans sing. In a way, mockingbirds are humans too. They all sing their heart out and enjoy life. The characters I chose were Atticus, Scout, and Boo. If these characters could sing a song in the novel one may wonder what song would match their characteristics and qualities. In the case, of Atticus Finch, he is respected by mostly everyone in Maycomb because of the intelligence and wisdom of his character. Since its the age of racialism, Atticus was asked to defend a black man. He agreed to defend this man, he has sympathy for black people but some of the townspeople of Maycomb scorn him for his decision. But Atticus

Atticus is Moralistic The most positive trait that Atticus from To Kill A Mockingbird possesses, is that he is very moralistic and this is not only positive for him, but it is also extremely positive for his children to experience and is a desirable trait for anyone. My first piece of evidence is from when Atticus was talking with Uncle Jack when they came upon the topic of the trial. On the topic of not taking the trial, Atticus said, “Right. But do you think I could face my children otherwise?”

“Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird” (90). The timeless classic To Kill a Mockingbird has many unique characters but none quite like Atticus Finch. Atticus is one of the very few characters in To Kill a Mockingbird that never has to reconsider his position on an issue. Harper Lee introduces him as a person that sticks to what he believes is right and wrong, and doesn't waver from it. This quality supports that throughout the story Atticus is a patient, courageous, and honest man.
