The ball is in the air, leaving you wondering if you made the right choice. That is how Friar Lawrence felt in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Friar Lawrence is responsible for the death of Romeo and Juliet because he marries Romeo and Juliet in secret , involvement in Juliet’s fake death, and doesn’t follow up on his plans. Friar Lawrence shouldn't have married Romeo and Juliet because he knew their families are enemies and that Romeo has suddenly fallen in love with Juliet overnight. Romeo and Juliet belongs to two families that fight “Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell./But come, young waverer, come, go with me,/In one respect I’ll thy assistant be,/For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households' rancor to pure love” (II. iii. 88-92). Friar Lawrence never checked if Friar John deliver the letter explaining Juliet's fake death until it was too late. Friar John didn’t know how important the letter is “Unhappy fortune! By my brotherhood,/The letter was not nice but full of charge” (IV. ii. 18-19). Romeo never got the letter Friar Lawrence was supposed to send. When Romeo hears the news of Juliet's “death” he is so heartbroken he killed himself. When Juliet wakes up and finds Romeo dead she decides to kill herself. Friar Lawrence could’ve prevented both deaths of he stuck to his plans. Instead he relies on other people and think of himself first.
