Who Is Mark Jealous In The Crucible

The Crucible, a play written in 1953 by arthur miller was written to be a fictional and dramatized version of the salem witch trials in massachusetts 1692. The book teaches about how greed, narcissism, and selfishness can corrupt people and spread throughout a community. In the play the actions of all of the characters shows how easily a person or a group of people can start a series of occurrences causing an event that can generate the death of 20 people.

Abigail Williams is the biggest antagonist in the story of The Crucible. Throughout the story, there has been an abundant amount of conflict. Abbey has been the cause, in many ways, of these conflicts. Without her, there would have been conflict, but not as much, giving that she has caused most of the drama that unfolded. Abbey is the character who is the most to blame for the Salem Witch trials and dreadful hangings because she tells lies on others to protect herself, she seems to only care about herself, and she has no remorse when it comes to blaming others.

In Arthur Miller's play, The Crucible, Miller demonstrated that it was Abigail William's flaws-Immaturity, Lust, and Spitefulness- that led her to be most responsible for the tragedy of the witch-hunt in Salem.

Remember those Disney movies where the witch had a huge wart on her face? Well that idea came from the Salem Witch Trials. To prove that a person was a witch, people would check for big freckles or moles on their body. This was supposedly a place where evil spirits could stay. During the spring of 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, a group of girls were caught dancing in the woods, which was considered illegal in the Puritan times. When confronted about it, Abigail and Betty start to scream out the names of the witches in the village that made them commit the crime. This started up the accusations of the Salem Witch Trials. In the Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams is to blame for the mass hysteria in Salem because she wants to be with John Proctor, she tries to kill Elizabeth, and she tries to save her name.

Here we have a story filled to the brim with conspiracies and lies. The story takes place in Salem during the Salem witch trials that ended with the hanging of many innocent people. In Arthur Miller'splay, The Crucible, there are many people to blame for the hangings. I think Tituba is most responsible for the hangings because she performed the witchcraft, confessed to it, and accused others of witchcraft.

It is 1692 in the small town of Salem, Massachusetts; fear and hysteria are running rampant. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, the residents of Salem are allowing their grudges and personal rivalries to distract themselves from the truth. The witch trials are escalating, more and more people are being accused, and the tensions are high. The Putnams have different motivations and grudges that are driving the accusations. Ann Putnam is using the trials to harm the women she deems responsible for the deaths of her seven children. In contrast, Thomas Putnam is driven by his greed for wealth and land to accuse those he is envious of. A young girl, Abigail Williams, is a devious teenager seeking revenge on the innocent wife of her past lover.

“The Crucible” is a play that takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The play starts in the woods, the characters Abigail, Betty, Tituba, Mary Warren, and Mercy Lewis were casting spells in the forest. Samuel Parris catches them in the woods and Betty passes out. They go to the Proctors house to make sure Betty is okay. Parris is contemplating on what the town will think of him when they find out what has happened. He tells Abigail to tell him what happened in the woods. Abigail tells him they were dancing.

A big ego often leads to people doing things they know they shouldn’t in return for what benefits them. Arthur Miller, the author of The Crucible, shows what can happen to a whole town when one young girl Named Abigail Williams performs witchcraft, causing chaos in the town of Salem. Secrets are kept throughout the citizen in fear their reputations would be ruined. Many have claimed, “the bonds of love between individuals that are "the foundations of any society."(Bigsby) Abigail and John had made a sin through lust, causing a big impact on their society. In Arthur Miller's Crucible, Abigail Williams is responsible for the mess in Salem.

The most despicable character would be Abigail Williams. She is the town whore in the play because she had sex with John Proctor who is the husband of Elizabeth Proctor when Elizabeth was sick. “Abby, you’ll put it out of mind. I’ll not be coming for you anymore” (John, 1139).

There are many flaws that people have, do you have any flaws? In the novel, The Crucible, Abigail shows many character flaws. Abigail’s flaws are jealousy, lust, and remorsefulness.

In the Crucible, persecution leads to pride. Mary warren tells the town that john is a witch and they try to convenes him to say that he is a witch. John refuse to give up his good name and rips up his confession. John goes to the court house to show the town that all of the girls are lying to them that there are no witches among them. John tells the court that he has committed adultery with Abigail and that she is doing it to get back at him and they bring in John’s wife to tell the court that what john said is true. She tries to let john keep his pride by saying no.

In the Crucible there is a puritan village in the winter rumors of witches were spreading through the town. A man was praying for his sick daughter, he feels like an outcast.
