Sinbad the Coast Guard Dog was adopted by one of the Coast Guard crew members in 1939. He was the Coast Guard's most famous mascot.
One day a member of the Coast Guard's crew adopted a dog for his girlfriend so that she would feel less sad about her boyfriend being gone. The place his girlfriend lived at had a no pet policy so he snuck the dog on board, after a while the crew found out and after a little bit of thinking they named him “Sinbad the Coast Guard dog”. The next morning the crew asked the captain if they could keep the dog and they could, but he was their responsibility and he also would have to learn to behave himself. After Sinbad learned the daily routine of the ship the crew made him a hammock. He also got his own suit and he

So Fernanda jumped and “pencil dived” to grab Roene, and it worked! But when Fernanda was grabbing Roene, she dropped the rope and hatchet. When Nathan and I were landing in the water, we had to loosen the chest strap before we landed. Once we landed we had to take it off carefully and let the parachute sink. Roene and Fernanda wanted to save the parachute, for supplies. So before they hit the water, Fernanda dropped Roene into the water, Roene swam away a little. While Fernanda was still in the air she loosened the chest strap and when she landed she took it off. Meanwhile, Roene quickly grabbed the parachute and successfully saved it. We swam towards each other while Nathan inflated the dinghy. We were about a three-minute swim away from each other, but there were some pretty big waves. When we noticed that there were sharks! While the rest of us were panicking, Fernanda discovered that they were whale sharks! She told us that whale sharks don’t eat humans! We were so relieved. While we were paddling to shore, Roene hit Nathan in the head with her oar! Nathan got a concussion, but he was okay since he just lay on the bottom of the dinghy. We were a six-hour paddle
When he saw that, he knew that the man had taken it too far. It was time to take action. He hired a dog handler. The dog was a man hunting bloodhound named Horace. While the man and dog were looking for the troublemakers, the man “lost” Horace. ( The same man who had caused the RDEC so much trouble actually dognapped Horace by bribing him with steak). Drake McBride did not want to pay him, but he had to give the dog handler a check of 5,000 dollars because the dog handler had spotted the pirate well.

In 1917, as the 102nd Infantry, 26th Yankee Division of the US Army trained and camped around the Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut a stray dog wandered into camp. Private J. Robert Conroy found the short-tailed puppy and named him “Stubby.” The dog quickly became the mascot of the 102nd Infantry, despite an official ban on pets in the camp. When the division shipped out for Europe to fight in the First World War, Private Conroy managed to smuggle Stubby aboard the SS Minnesota the transport that brought the Connecticut troops to France. Stubby received special orders (as the division’s mascot) that allowed him to travel to the front lines with the rest of the troops when it came time for battle. Charles went to the gas station one day to get Caril a plush bear. The only problem was he could not afford it. Succumbing to hunger and thirst on the fifth day, they killed the dog for nourishment. Two of the crewmen died on the sixth day. On the seventh, the remaining crew reached land.
With the help of Theodore, the Voluntary Cavalry Regiment “adopted” three animals to represent them, which were: a mountain lion cub (which was later given away as a circus attraction, but unfortunately got lost or stolen in Chicago), an eagle (sadly killed by two bad eagles when put in the same cage), and a terrier-like dog (later given to Sam Black). On June 13, the Yucatan finally set sail out of Tampa Bay, making Roosevelt extremely excited to escape the current location.
Ralph felt sick to his stomach, and went to get the first officer he saw. He found a man as tall as him with bushy mustache. The man showed the captain, and they decided to throw him overboard before anyone else saw.
The 2 legged mascot manned by a human first came around in 1958 when an English bulldog was bought by student government. This dog was named “Colonel Rock” in memory of the school's athletic director and coach Ray Hanson, a marine colonel. A statue of the mascot was put up at WIU and moved to the entrance of the football field in 2002. Western is the only public college in the country with permission to use the name The Fighting Leathernecks(Fall 2016 Western Illinois University Fast Facts).
Veterans. All of those that have previously served our country in the United states military. Sadly much to often, these veterans come back from their tours physically and mentally damaged. Along with broken and or missing limbs, they are often diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, also known as PTSD. I found the fascination for this illness and veterans while watching a new show on t.v. with my family. It’s called Dogs of War. This show is about a program called “Paws and Stripes” that connects veterans that are harshly affected on a daily basis to service dogs. I know that the concept of veterans and service dogs isnt a new concept, but what is different about this program is that they get the dogs from an animal shelter, then
Drake was a "sea dog" during the reign of Queen Elizabeth the first. And as everyone knows this is a good time to be a sea dog because the queen highly supported them. She gave him money and ships to raid the Spanish shipping. Drake was the most feared sea dog in his time.
