Thomas „Stonewall“ Jackson was one of the most famous people that participated in the American Civil War, great military tactician and successful general of the Confederacy. He led Confederate troops at Manassas, Antietam and Fredericksburg. He was accidently killed by his own troops at the Battle of Chancellorsville.
Childhood
Stonewall Jackson was born on January 21, 1824, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. His father was a lawyer and his mother had four children, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson was her third one. After finishing local schools, in 1842 he enrolled in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
Mexican American War
Jackson graduated from West Point, and right after that he was sent to Mexico to fight in the Mexican-American War. Jackson quickly proved his bravery and skills on the battlefield, when he was serving under General Winfield Scott. In the Mexican-American, it was the first time Stonewall Jackson met Robert E. Lee, with whom he will one day be in Confederate military forces fighting against the Union. In 1846 the Mexican-American War ended, and Jackson was promoted to brevet major and honored as a war hero. After the war, he continued to serve in the military in New York and Florida for a couple years.

Stonewall Jackson was injured by friendly fire. On the night of May 2, the Confederate cause would take a deadly blow. Jackson along with his aides, were doing a late night scouting mission when he was accidentally shot by one of his own. He had been mistaken for the Union cavalry, something that was not uncommon during the war due to the lack of modern communication. When the war ended, he bounced from Fort Hamilton in New York and Fort Meade in Florida. Eventually, though, he resigned his commission to accept a teaching position at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia in 1851. During this time, he married and lost a wife in childbirth and remarried again. If not for the onset of the Civil War, he may have remained at VMI and most likely faded into obscurity.

Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaws recon on the border of North and South Carolina. His mom and two brothers died during the conflict of the British invasion of the Carolina in 1780-1781, after the death of his mom and two brothers he had a great hatred toward Great Britain. Jackson was the only President to live in a log cabin, he was born in poverty and was also the only president to be a prisoner in the war. Jackson’s troops gave him the nickname of “Old Hickory” since his troops were of a firmly rooted Hickory tree. There were many disagreement with the government on the actions they made, his troops constantly tried going back home when their enlistment was up. Jackson stayed until the end of the Creek War. When they Promoted Jackson to general he automatically took things into his own hands and took them to war again, they defended New Orland’s from a full-scale attack by the British, forcing them to withdraw from Louisiana.
In 1801 Andrew Jackson was selected to be the commander of the Tennessee militia. His military experience helped him in the war of 1812, when he won against the creeks Indians at horseshoe bend. By winning that battle he had gained twenty million acres, which is the present day Georgia and Alabama. After what Andrew Jackson has done to his nation he was promoted to a major general. After a couple years he was named a national hero, because of his tremendous win against the British. When he had led five thousand soldiers to victory against seven thousand five hundred British, in New Orleans. After his success he received a gold medal. Also his troops had nicknamed him old hickory, because it was said that Andrew Jackson was “as tough as old hickory wood” (pg 1). In 1817 Jackson had his first Seminole war, and he captured the Pensacola, which is in Florida, then he went on to capture Spanish territory. By capturing that area he became the military governor of Florida, because he overthrew the previous governor, who was José Masot, who was secretly helping out the Indians in wars. So that title of being a governor of Florida, he had held for ten months.
