Who should The African American Community vote for?
The African American Community is one that is heavily marginalised by the criminal justice system, by
systemic discrimination and face economic deprivation. In the upcoming elections, their votes do
matter, as they would decide which politician would represent their rights and their fight for equality.
The community is faced at a standstill in terms of voting. With no member of their community to
represent them as a nominee, they would have to choose between two prominent candidates. Hillary
Clinton, who is statistically the favourite but is said to not deserve the popularity as her husband did
quite come damage to the community in promoting discriminatory laws. Or to vote for Bernie Sanders,
who has

first would be that Bernie Sanders advocates for mass reform of the justice system. In his opinion, The
US imprisons far too many people, a disproportionate percentage of African Americans. Rather than
investing more into confining people of various degrees of crime, even minor offenses which usually are
usually crimes of desperation, Bernie proposes we spend more on education, training, and jobs that will
reduce crime. He also believes in more transparency, mainly in law enforcement, where police officers
should be held accountable for their abusive practices. Bernie proposes that this can be done by
implementing the use of body cameras to keep officers in line. These are all policies that are reflective
of Bernie Sanders stance in believing that The African American is obviously marginalised and
victimised by the current justice system, as he stated during a press conference in South Carolina.
Moreover, the community should vote for Bernie Sanders based on his stances with regards to
education. Bernie is committed to providing affordable, quality education. Bernie has been a
John Nicholas interviewed Bernie Sanders for the Nation, a journal on politics, about his views on a few issues being addressed by the candidates (12-6). During the civil-rights movement, Sanders was a supporter of Martin Luther King Jr’s vision. A non-white person has the right to freedom, like any other person. To this present day, inequality and discrimination are a real issue. Police brutality against African-Americans is not new in this country. However, his main concern is that people know about inequality toward blacks, but does not know that the unemployment rate for the African-American youth is at fifty percent. (Nicholas 14) A percentage that high on unemployment rate is an economic problem for the country. Racism continues to exist in America. Racial equality is a vital issue to
The African-American community is comprised of 34 million people, and makes up approximately 12.8 percent of the American population (Barker, Jones, Tate 1999: 3). As such, it is the largest minority group in the United States. Yet, politically, the black community has never been able to sufficiently capitalize on that status in order to receive the full benefits of life in America. Today, African-Americans, hold less than 2 percent of the total number of elected positions in this country (Tate, 1994: 3) and the number of members within the community that actually partake in voting continues to drop. In spite of these statistics, as of 1984, a telephone survey found that 70
A vote for Bernie Sanders is a vote for free education, reasonably paying jobs, and universal healthcare. [I need to add another sentence right here]. There are many reasons why Bernie Sanders is the best candidate for president based on his policies on college, jobs, and healthcare.
Up until the year 1870 African Americans could not vote in any election in American. (U.S. Voting Rights). In the past America has been making a lot of changes in our voting system’s equality. In the present, legally African Americans have the same rights as a white man does. In the future the rights will not get any better or worse. Throughout history The African American voting rights have improved to the present day and will stay the same in the near future.
Black Americans of today need to register to vote and make use of their voting rights if they want to see a change to the current state of democracy. In the
Blacks are essentially political prisoners and they are systematically being excluded from having the life they are guaranteed under the constitution. While African Americans only comprise twelve percent of the U.S. population, they are forty-six percent of those incarcerated in state and federal prisons (Nunn 392).
Ever since the first African Americans came to Jamestown in 1619, getting along has never been easy. Even though there was 200 years of slavery until the prevail of the civil war and the abolition of slavery, most people forget that some African Americans were free during that time, but how free were they? Free African Americans in the Northern states were free, but had no rights based on the voting chart, Charles Mackay’s excerpt, and Charles Andrews excerpt. Out of the three regions in the North, black males could only vote in one of them. Mackay recognizes their “freedom”, but denies African Americans of their rights. Finally, Andrews who was the top of his class explains how there’s no place for his talent. Free African Americans may have had freedom, but not the freedom that white males had, and certainly not the rights they needed to fully function in society.
I chose Bernie sanders as the candidate that I would vote for. A couple of issues that I care about that Sanders also stands for are healthcare for all and same-sex marriage. Sanders position on everyone being able to have healthcare is supportive. In an interview with Ezra Klein of Vox, Sanders responded with, “Health care, to my mind, is a right of all people. That's what I believe. I think every man, woman, and child is entitled to health care”(1). He believes that healthcare should not be something that we have to qualify and fight for but that it should be our right to have good healthcare. He made a point by saying that despite having the affordable care act, we still have so many people that are still uninsured and underinsured while our country is paying almost double what any other nation faces (2). Sanders is for healthcare for all because he believes it’s our right to it despite our income and not be discriminated against for reasons such as our gender or previous health issues. He believes we shouldn’t be discriminated against just because we might have had a health issue that the insurance companies consider a higher risk of needing help later, which would mean
He is providing 18 billion dollars for colleges to be able to cut their tuition. Mr. Sanders is going to allow anyone with student loans over a certain amount, a lower pay rate, so that way it is easier for them to get it paid off (Desjardins). Sanders does and does not want guns to be banned. When Sanders takes the place of President Barack Obama, he will not allow the federal government to carry or even have guns.
The 2016 Presidential Election is coming sooner and sooner as each day passes, and it’s approaching the point where all eligible voters need to become informed about the each of the Democrat and Republican candidates running in the 2016 Presidential bid. The voter should be aware of what each candidate represents and what their values are and from that the voter can decide which candidate suits their beliefs best and vote for said candidate when the time comes. In this upcoming election, in my opinion, the candidate that wants the best for the majority of the citizens of the United States is Senator Bernie Sanders. His views in politics, connect with many poor and middle class families because all throughout his political career and his 2016
Voting in a democratic country is one of the various ways to let the people have a say. It wasn't until 1870 when the fifteenth amendment was passed permitting African American men to vote regardless of nationality or origin. Later again in 1920 when the nineteenth amendment was passed, allowing women to have a say in the elections. Throughout history, people fought for the rights to speak concerning what they believe. The first amendment states that Congress shall make, "no law abridging the freedom of speech or the press." being qualified to vote is considered freedom of speech. Americans should not be required to vote because compulsory voting would interfere with the consent of the governed, worse than good would come out of forcing citizens to vote in elections they want no part of, none intellectuals will be
Bernie cares about education, he plans to reduce class size to 18 children in grades 1-3. Bernie also plans to do away with fill-in-the-bubble standardized tests. He voted yes on protecting ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes ecosystems.
African Americans political experiences have always been a silent cry, it was mentioned in class how when African Americans stand up for something it 's like giving a dog a bone. The minimum is done in some cases to make the problem quiet down. African Americans have a silent cry in the sense that people can see what they are dealing with but they won 't do anything about it. During the middle of the 20th century there were African Americans leaving the South in search of jobs ,to have a better life for their families and be in better circumstances. Desegregation of armies, which allowed more soldiers to fight in the war and go to war. This was a time that African Americans were wanting more and were tired of their circumstances. African Americans were
One metapor used to describe contemporary elections is “choosing the lesser of two evils”, however, unlike other elections, this year's is one of the most controversial and dividing elections in recent years. This year there is a chance for change, and currently there are four main head runners for the presidential nomination; out of these candidates only one shines as someone who will really change the US for the better, Bernie Sanders. He plans to rejuvenate the economy, and support the middle and lower class. Bernie also is easily one of the only candidates that support civil rights that help the people, not some values that would increase voter polls. When it comes to international affairs Bernie respects other countries and understands
Bernie Sanders is socialist but is written down as a independent which is a big turnoff for most people. When people think of socialist they think of Lenin, Castro, and Stalin who were not the most pleasant of people. Sanders totally different then all of them though. First off he’s Jewish and these people don't seem Jewish. Second off he has not killed anybody like the people listed. And third is he has modern and past democratic views. He is a supporter of gay marriage and abortion which is modern democratic views. He wants the minimum wage raised which has been an ongoing fight for many years with republicans and democrats fighting over it. One more thing he's done is trying to reach out to our younger generation who is voting for the first time. In a New York Times article entitled “The Socialist Senator”, he visited South Burlington High School where he answer some question to some 6o kids. This is what you want in a president, who speaks at schools and answer question for them. In another New York Times Article, he states, “Doctors have told me about patients who died because they put off their medical visits until it was too late”(Sanders, 3). This proves a point that he does not want people to die. Now we can disagree that Sanders should or should not be president but what we can most definitely agree on is we don't want people to
