Around the world, many school shootings have been occurring. Some people think that armed guards might be needed to protect students, but others think that that would be a bit too much. Guards are not needed in public schools to protect students. It could scare children, it could distract learning, and there are many more solutions than resorting to guards immediately. If people hired armed guards, the students could be frightened that people with guns are in the school. This would only make things worse for kids. Children who are young most likely don’t know that much about people with guns except its dangerous. They probably would not know that it is for their own safety. Young students could start screaming, crying, and running around and hiding. If the guards were in schools, students might not be used to it and flip out.
Some students grades are bad enough, but armed guards could make it worse. Guards that are walking down hallways and looking at students through the windows could distract kids learning. If a student is studying for a huge exam or a test that was important for their grade, armed guards could distract there studying by walking by the students. The kids might think that anything might happen at any moment from having guards walking around the school as well. For example, if

Guards aren’t needed in public schools because of the other solutions that are possible. Other people think that the guards are needed in public schools because there are no other solutions, but they just aren’t thinking hard enough. For example, staff could make ID cards that are scanned, making sure you are a student at the school. The card could unlock the door to the school. Also, the school could make a lockable room in each of the classrooms for kids to go in if there is an emergency. If the guards did come to schools, what's the point? Those schools are just wasting money hiring
School should install high tech safety features around their school like cameras or alarm systems. Talking to my cousin Kamalpreet about school security was a must because she goes to school where there were lots of crime-related issues. She always talks about what happened at their school. Kamalpreet said she witnessed lots of crime happening around their school and that their school doesn’t have any type of security arrangements. Many people fight at their school and no one is there to stop them because of lack of security system. She said “no matter what type of school it is they should have security arrangements for their school safety.” Also she said “that as new technology is on the rise and they should make some type of detectors to keep schools safe.” Every school should have some type of security and it is not cheap to get security systems. The whole issue is about money because they are too expensive, so not every school can afford them. There are many ways to raise money if school tries and that money can help with security. Raising money is always an option when it comes down to children’s safety. Teachers should keep children on the right track then they will go into right direction and that will help school as a whole feel safer. If teachers don’t teach anything then children will fight with each other and school won’t feel safe, but that is also up to the students. The Department
Although some say armed police officers in schools may be a danger to all, armed police officers should be present in schools because their presence alone can give a sense of safety. Having armed police officers on campus can deter bad situations from happening. They can also have an impact of the number of school shootings that occur. They can also help with situations that may occur with students that may have conflict with other students that a teacher or staff member may not be able to handle. In this era that we live in having armed officers in schools is a way to insure the safety of students.
Teachers and other administrators should be trained and required to carry firearms to school. There are many school shootings happening around the world. Teachers carrying firearms could protect their students, fellow teachers, and themselves from being harmed. Teachers will be able to react more quickly while waiting for law enforcement to arrive at the scene. Having teachers and administrators carrying guns will also give students a feeling of safety and security.
School shootings have been on the rise in the United States since the early 80’s, questioning the safety and security of schools all across the country. Lots of ideas have come up for trying to keep weapons out of schools but the idea of having metal detectors has stuck and on paper seems to be a viable option for schools but in real use they have lots of issues. One of the biggest problems with using metal detectors in public schools will be cost. Cost affects many different things to do with the metal detectors, two of the major factors being proper trained staff and paying for repairs. Another issue with metal detectors are they are slow, make kids late to class and also make kids dread going to school in the morning. There could be compromises made like alternative options like random checks or quick pat downs but getting rid of this style of security would be better all together. Metal detectors should not be used in schools because they make students late to class, cause anxiety and are too expensive to be used in public schools.
But as in every argument there are very few reason to not be armed, but as in this situation the why’s weight out the why not’s. The way teachers, right now, are acting when a shooter comes in, is cowardly. The students are more willing to risk their lives to save their friends, that is true courage. But the student is unarmed, literally bringing a fist to a gun fight, if the teacher was armed that could change the game of how the shooting could play out. Either the teacher wins fighting hard, or the teacher dies cowardly. Teachers should be armed for the sake of themselves, piers, and students. Would you rather die fighting hard, or die coward
To promote a healthy learning environment that potentially increases school funding, the first recommendation for schools is to remove all metal detectors on school campus. Having excessive forms of security measures can only be counter-productive to the results that schools want to see. The purpose of school institutions is to promote a learning environment, not an environment where it has become an evolved form of the prison system. Removing metal detectors in its entirety would allow schools to allocate the existing funds to support school administrators or counselors. The use of metal detectors are not only excessive, but perpetuates the image of the prison industrial
Whether or not armed security guards should be in schools has been a debate for years but has really been brought into the limelight since the most recent tragedies of Columbine, Virginia Tech and Sandy Hook. The supporters of having armed security in our school districts believe that it is a needed layer of security and helps to diminish response time if necessary while keeping children, parents and teachers feeling safer to be in school. The ones against having guns in the schools believe that we have had armed guards in schools and it did nothing to stop it. They also believe that the cost is too high while also
Since 2013, there have been over 200 school shootings in America- an average of one a week (EverytownResearch.org). Some state Legislators are considering letting individual districts and college campus to have autonomy over the type school security that is available for the students and staff. There is a state law in Texas, called The Protection of Texas Children Act, the law essentially deputizes school officials to serve as “School Marshals” who, after obtaining proper weapons license, undergoing training and passing a mental health exam, and receive training in crisis management and hostile situation, then they can have a gun in schools (Chen). In the rural area of Harrold, Texas, in the Harrold Independent School District, in 2007, they have already made ground breaking changes, they were the first school to allow teachers and staff after following the strict set of prerequisites to carry a weapon on school property. The students in the high school say they feel much safer knowing that in a small town where there is no police station that the teachers are going to protect them if the situation should arrive (Chen). Since this first school many others across the country have also made changes to allow their staff to be armed.
Next, we had security guards. I don’t really remember exactly how many we had, but they frequented problem areas of the school. The lunchroom was a major problem place, and the surrounding hallways where students would eat and do homework. There would also be security guards that walked around the “unfrequented” parts of the school. The security guards would also go outside and monitor the path, and the students crossing as well. Next, we had a desk at the front of the school with a security guard that doesn’t leave during the day. Vistors were required to sign in and report to the office. For awhile, we had a security guard that went around and looked around the parking lot, looking for suspicious things. Now, there is a van that drives around the parking lot keeping it secure as well. Next, we have to evaluate the potential risks and threats. At Grand Blanc, we didn’t have metal detectors, so being able to slip in with a knife, or something small, like this student did, would be a problem. Also, big bags such as purses, athletic bags and backpacks are problems as well because without metal detectors we do not know what are in the bags. Another potential risk is the unfrequented areas of the school. Even though there are cameras, there are enough cameras that you cant watch every one every time. With the unfrequented areas of the school, a student could create something destructive- it could be a considerable amount of time before someone passes by.
Shooters would be deterred to enter the school, knowing that there are teachers that can make their life short. For instance, someone planning on entering a school to kill innocent souls would consider twice before trying, if they knew that they could not succeed. Nevertheless, arming teachers can discourage people from even thinking about shooting up a school.
The answer to gun violence in schools is not to put more guns in them. Equipping teachers with guns, who are little more than civilians, is not the smartest idea. This would not help prevent the type of deadly mass shootings we've been seeing lately. All that would do is increase the possibility of innocent people getting caught in the crossfire. Even if teachers were allowed to have access to weapons they would have to be locked up some where safe. They couldn't hide the gun in a classroom because it would be too dangerous and too easy to gain access of. If a student is holding a teacher hostage they wouldn't let them leave to go get their gun and come back. So why wouldn't you want a security guard arriving to handle the situation when they would always have a weapon on them? But what if the teacher did have te weapon on them and a confrontation happens in front of the whole class? Imagine the emotional distress it would cause the students to have all had to either watch their teacher or their classmate be shot to death. It wouldn't be worth it. Think about how you would feel if you had a child and had to send them to school everyday not knowing if their teachers are mentally stable
Over the past several years gun violence in schools has been led into many news stories. From the 1999 Columbine Shooting in Colorado to the Sandy Hook Massacre in Massachusetts, the death of students by armed intruders has ignited a debate among many Americans. At the root of this argument is the question: Should teachers and school staff be armed? Some argue schools would be safer if this occurs. The fact of the matter is; it would make schools a more dangerous place to be. Placing untrained individuals into a stressful school environment where their decisions have life or death consequences is a horrible idea.
For example, if an intruder with a gun was to come inside the school and multiple teachers were to join together to defend the school there is a good chance the intruder would have been killed or stopped dead in their tracks. In addition, if a person was to have a weapon like a knife against a person with a gun they would most likely lose the fight. Teachers should be able to defend at least until police come, and criminals that would want to shoot up a school would probably be less likely to do so with the risk of their own life as well unless they don’t care.
With the many recent tragic school shootings, people are asking questions regarding if their children are under enough protection while they are at school. One of the biggest debate questions is: should schools have armed guards at the front entrance? This question has been answered by many people by giving their specific opinion. The question of armed guards in front of school has also been addressed on talk shows and to political leaders for their opinion. The answers that are given are either for having armed guards, or against armed guards standing in front of schools. Armed guard should not be posted at schools because it increases uncertainty and risk of student safety.
Over the past decade school violence has been on the rise. School violence has always existed in some form or another, whether it is a fight out on the play ground or a stabbing in the parking lot. However nothing got the nation's attentions like the April 20, 1999, Columbine school shooting. Ever since that day the nation wants to know what to do to protect the kids in this country. Many schools have gotten increasingly stricter on their policies, especially the schools that have more money. What about the schools that cant' afford metal detectors and security officers? American public schools are not safe, and need to have greater security measures to ensure the students' safety.
