The cause of World War 1 was in fact a mixture of reasons. The systems of Alliances, Imperialism and Nationalism were all equally responsible for starting the Great War. World War 1 began in 1914 and finished in 1918, it was a gruesome war that killed almost eight million people and left many without limbs. The events of World war 1 were clearly far too complex to be attributed to one cause. It was a combination of factors that were brought together to create an environment mandatory to achieve war on a global scale. Alliances were only one of the causes responsible for World War 1 and there are many viable reasons for that. Alliances played a very complex part in the cause of world war 1. Alliances is the agreement between two or more nations, promising in time of war that the country will fight with …show more content…
Nationalism is the excessive devotion to the interest or culture of their own country. During the 19th and 20th century nationalism had spread itself all over Europe. All powerful nations such as Russia and Germany had strong beliefs towards the concept of supporting their own nation. According to UKEssay, when Nationalism was introduced to Europe, nations believed that their own needs must be met before those of other nations. These strong beliefs came to play a powerful role as many nationalists became so proud of their nations that they became unaware of how strong countries were becoming. It also brought a lot of tensions between nations, because with powers each holding a strong opinion of their own country, believing they were the best. Did bring a lot of enemies, which inevitably was a cause of WW1. This is stated in an article written by J Southey and S Thompson "pre war nationalism was fuelled by wars, rivalry, newspapers, and culture." In summary, nationalism was truly a powerful key factor in the rise of the world war, as well as Alliances and
Nationalism is patriotic feeling, principles, efforts or having pride in your country. nationalism was another big part in world war I. ("DBQ: What Were the Underlying ...", 2010, p. Doc 1) If it was not for the pride in one’s countries, there would be total chaotic war. There was total war because of imperialism also. Because of this soldiers were ready to run towards the front lines and risk his life for his country.
World War I was the result of leaders' aggression towards other countries which was supported by the rising nationalism of the European nations. Economic and imperial competition and fear of war prompted military alliances and an arms race, which further escalated the tension contributing to the outbreak of war. One cause of the World War was militarism, which is a policy in which military preparedness is of primary significance to a situation. Another cause of the World War was nationalism. Nationalism is the pride and devotion form one towards his/her country. It played a great part in the causes of World War 1 because citizens wanted to stand up for their country, and fight for them. The third
There are many reasons why World War One occurred in 1914, many are complex and remain controversial which is why the matter has been disputed to this day by historians all over the world. My theory is that a lot of those reasons and the trigger factor all links to one thing; the alliance system. The alliance system is what made countries oppose each other and become rivals making it the most significant factor. It had an impact on who supported who when Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated. This was only the spark that started war in Europe; there were long term causes that contributed to the war and were the origins. This answer will explain the causes focusing on how they contributed to World War One and what the important links are
World War one, also known as the “great war” was directly caused by the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand. What you may not know is that the root causes to World War one were Nationalism, Militarism, and Alliances. Not only do they have a huge role in starting the war, but also making sure the war was finished.
Nationalism: is a strong feeling of pride in one’s country and believing that one’s country is better than other country and this aggressive nationalism in the early 1900’s was a source of tension in Europe, which fueled the war. Nationalism was very strong in France and Germany; it unified the Germans, as they were proud of their growing military and industrial strength. While, France wanted to regain its position as a leading European power. Similarly, Russia had encouraged a form of nationalism in Eastern Europe called Pan Slavism. It drew all Slavic people and Russia was the largest Slavic country ready to defend small Serbia. Multinational Austria Hungary opposed Slavic national movements. After Napoleon’s exile to Elba congress of Vienna was held and it tried to solve the problem in Europe. Delegates of Britain, Austria, Russia, and Prussia agreed upon a new Europe whereas Germany and Italy were left as divided states. So there
When asked who started it, many people will turn and point to someone else in the room. But when asked what started World War I people point to many different causes and countries. Little bit of background, World War I started in 1914 and ended in 1918. Many countries in Europe were involved and there were many casualties throughout the war. The one remaining question is what exactly was the underlying cause of World War I? There are three things that could have possibly been the cause of the war: militarism, imperialism, or alliances. These next three paragraphs will discuss, in order from least to most accusable, how they caused the war.
During world war one there were many things the came to the start of it. Countries allied together, leaders were blamed for pushing their people to war. Armies went to action starting the wars and everyone blamed each other for it.The way people thought that war was good at the time. All these causes that could have lead to it. Many can argue that nationalism was the cause or alliances etc. However, Militarism was the underlying cause in World War 1.
One underlying cause of World War 1 was the alliance systems. There were two major alliances. The triple entente and the triple alliance (Document A). The triple entente consisted of Russia, United Kingdom, and France. The triple alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary, and italy. Alliances were quick to support their allies (Document B). Each country had a different point of view of who started the war. So this created a chain reaction (Document B). Those are a few ways alliance systems caused World War 1.
Many contributions lead to the spark of World War I. The three main causes included the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, alliance systems, and militarism. Although imperialism and nationalism are said to be contributing factors to the cause of World War I, the assassination of Francis Ferdinand, alliance systems, and militarism were three of the most important causes of The Great War. An immediate cause of World War I was the assassination of Austria-Hungary’s archduke, Francis Ferdinand.
World War I was also known as the Great War, or the War to End All Wars. This war took place from 1914 to 1918. World War I was sparked by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on June 28th, 1914, although a war was inevitable due to the tensions between European countries. The three main causes of World War I were nationalism, militarism, and alliances. Nationalism initiated war because citizens felt that it was their duty to defend their country’s honor.
Although there were many causes for World War 1, the three most long term, underlying causes were imperialism, militarism, and the most important cause alliances. Imperialism was a big contribution to World War 1 because of the greed and determination from all of the supe six to overthrow different
Without alliances, World War I would have been only between Austria-Hungary and Serbia and essentially would not be a World
World war 1 has been a major impact on the world. It was a war in which the casualty was very high for some European countries. New technology was used throughout the war by each of the European countries. But what was the cause of the war? I believe that the causes of World War 1 were the alliance system militarism and imperialism.
In 1914 there was a World War 1 that was also called The Great War and ended in 1919. The three main impacts and cause of world war 1 was the Alliance (“association”), Imperialism (“power differences”), and Militarism (“Weapon spending”). The countries that were involved Germany, Austria-Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire (“so-called Central Powers”) the countries against Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, and Japan (“the Allied Powers”).
Before World War 1 began there were many conflicts between many countries, these conflicts are what eventually led to the war. Nationalism lead to World War 1 for reasons people believed they needed to fight for their country, many people who weren’t fighting wanted to support their soldiers, and many soldiers felt as if they couldn’t back out of the war. Militarism was a cause because each country was building up their weapons and ammunition, as well as building up their armies. Finally Kaiser Wilhelm II was a cause because he had a very strong hate towards Britain, he was a very aggressive leader and he wanted Germany to be the number one country. Nationalism, militarism and Kaiser Wilhelm II were the three main causes of World War 1.
