Michael Jordan is one of the greatest athletes ever in the game of basketball. His determination and drive to be the best is clear. As Jordan once said, “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games 26 times, I’ve been trusted to make the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” I have a question about his career. What made Jordan want to get better and excel in the game of basketball even after he had reached an enormous level of success? There are various reasons why he wanted to excel in the game. Jordan was invited to play for the USA Olympic basketball team in the summer. Michael made the choice to play for his country, and he will have to train even harder to prepare for the 1992 olympic games in Barcelona. Michael knew he could become an even better player by playing with and against the best in the world. Another reason Jordan wanted to excel his play is because it would not only help him but also the organization. He helped the Chicago Bulls by playing smarter and with more intensity. Playing smarter helped him and his team by creating smarter and more efficient plays and scoring opportunities. As Michael said, “I haven't been a quitter. I think I go out and approach the game as hard as anyone. I play smart, I play hard, and I play as a team player.” (Lazenby 504). The final way Michael Jordan mastered his play was through intense practice. Jordan practiced his shot repeatedly until he made every shot, which increased his shooting percentage in games.
