There was a war fought between the original thirteen colonies and Great Britain around April in 1775. This war was known as The American Revolution and although war was pretty common back then but, this was a different kind of war. The thirteen colonies that were rebelling against their mother country were fighting to become a country where every human has the freedom to do and say what they wanted. Also, they had many new ideas for running a country that many countries had never thought of or that they did not want. These ways of running government had never been tried before and were huge changes to how things were done back then. All the American colonists wanted was freedom. By dumping the 343 crates of tea overboard into the Boston Harbor, they were showing an act of freedom. As much hate and disrespect that was shown after the party, it worked because 3 years later o July 4, 1776 the Declaration of Independence was signed. This granted freedom from Great Britain, and established that the colonies were going to be separate and individual what we call states. In other words, 3 years after the Americans spoke their minds, they were granted freedom from taxed tea and the British. Also, according to the article, since Great Britain did not give the people a chance to state their opinion and say how they felt, this was their way of saying it. The colonists didn’t do anything wrong during this time in history.

After months of protests Parliament realized their mistake and repealed the tax, but the damage had already been done and the Colonists would start a revolution to separate themselves from the British. On December 16, 1773 the Sons of Liberty, a group of Patriots led by Samuel Adams cut open 340 chests of British East India Company tea, weighing over 92,000 pounds (roughly 46 tons), onboard the Beaver, Dartmouth, and Eleanor and then dumped it into Boston Harbor; a total loss of $1,700,000 dollars in today’s money. Weeks after the ordeal the harbor still had the smell of tea. Until the 340 chest of British Eat India Company tea were paid for the British completely closed off Boston Harbor. The Intolerable act which was meant to punish the actions of the Sons of Liberty. This did not help Colonists’ approval of the British government. The harsh punishments unified the American colonists even more against British rule. Since King George taxed tea in the Townshend Act and the Tea Act all the colonists rebelled. As you know the tea act taxed tea twice. In response the Sons of Liberty dressed up as American Indians and painted there faces so none of the British recognized them, because at this time Sam Adams wad a warrant out for his arrest and he was a much wanted man. They went onto the ships late one night and dumped 45 tons of tea into the Boston Harbor. This caused the water to change a different color which it is currently still. This rebellion was known as the Boston Tea Party, and everyone still knows about it

When the colonists moved to the new world, King George III still ruled over them. There were high taxes placed on all of the shipped goods. The colonists were mad that the King put taxes on the tea, so they took barrels of tea and threw them into the Boston Harbor.

One-third of the colony wanted independence from Great Britain, the Patriots, while another third decided to stay loyal to the British, the loyalists/tories. The Patriots soon went to war with Britain for their independence, but the rest of the colony was reluctant to join the Patriots’ cause for various reasons. The loyalists were hesitant to join the American Revolution because of the nonideal living location and the British protected them when no one else would.

The change of American ideas between 1763 and 1783 became more anti British as colonists became increasingly ridiculed by British forces and enraged by their actions. They were uncompromising with their taxes and abused the colonists with their military forces. Starting in 1764, there was a stream of many taxes set in place including; the Sugar Act, Stamp Act, and Townshend Acts. These made the colonists angry, but there was more. The quartering act and Boston massacre were both actions of the British forces’ brutality and uncompromising behavior.

This era in American history was named the American Revolution. But was this event revolutionary? In the 1700s, the only forms of government in Europe were absolute dictatorships or monarchies. Both systems did not give the power to choose their leader. And any power given to the people was reserved for white men of rich families only. Was this new country, the United States, really so unique? Yes, the United States of America was revolutionary for its time, because it changed is views on some social groups and politics.

How revolutionary was the American Revolution? Firstly, what is the American Revolution? Well, American Revolution or also called War of Independence took place between 1775 and 1783; it was a war between the thirteen British colonies and their home country Great Britain. The war began with a disagreement over how England treated the thirteen colonies and how the thirteen colonies wanted to get treated (Keene). Basically, Great Britain created the thirteen colonies to use them and benefit the crown and parliament of Great Britain.

The original event took place on November 18th, 1773, the ships arrived. Announcements were posted to organize a meeting among the citizens and the governor called the Committee of Correspondence. They wanted him to summon the ships back to Britain. When he didn't accept, a bunch of men, hidden as Indians, went and attacked towards the harbor, intending to throw the tea into the bay. They became three groups, each of them with one leader. Next, they made the captain and his crew get down below, they took all the boxes of tea, opened them and tossed them overboard. Even some members of the crew assisted them to destroy the tea. A big crowd was in the harbor, some of them even tried to keep some of the tea. Entirely they destroyed 340 chests.

The Tea Act of 1773 was a tax on tea but, the British lowered the cost of tea significantly enough that even with the tax, British tea was cheaper than Dutch tea. Also to keep the price down, the British East India Co. got rid of the middleman in the colonies and opened up their own shops. If the colonists bought this tea, they would be accepting the fact that the British could tax without representation. On Dec. 16th 1773 the ships docked at the Boston ports. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Indians and threw 324 chests of tea into the water. England responded to the Boston Tea Party by the Coercive Act of 1774.
