Behind every good professional athlete, there is an equally professional Sports Agent providing much needed support. Some athletes see agents as a valuable tool while others consider them nothing more than a necessary evil. Truth be told, a strong relationship between an athlete and their agent is the thread that holds professional sports together. At Doan Sports Management, we consider our agents to be a major conduit between the athlete and the bevy of responsibilities they will face on a daily basis.
Why Hire a Sports Agent?

I have spent the biggest part of my life involved with sports as both a player and player representative. I have had the privileged to learn about sports as a fan, participant and facilitator. It is my greatest desire for this firm to adequately represent the love I feel for sports of all kinds and the admiration and respect I feel for the athletes who dedicate their lives to making sports fun and entertaining for the fans.
Why I became an Agent
When I made the choice to become a lawyer, I knew that I needed to somehow fuse my love for the law with my love for sports. The fact I became a sports agent has given me the opportunity to do just that. Beyond the privileged of doing what I love for a living, I also get the opportunity to be involved with providing professional services that make a difference. They make a difference to the athletes I represent who are subsequently freed up to do what they love the most, play sports and compete as professional athletes.
Now My Services Can Make a
First off, athletes give time and effort to maintain a successful career. It’s not like athletes go out and only play one game a day or so. Pro athletes put in a lot of training, studying, and everything they’ve got. They are very dedicated and love the game
My interest in sports management is an ongoing process. Throughout my entire life I have been part of several sports related opportunities, and my love for the game of soccer has only grown over the years. In a perfect scenario my plan would be to be an Athletic Director, Higher Education not only because there is a very broad field in that area but also because according to "Sports management degree" there is a 15% projected to grow from now to 2022, and the salary is at an average of $99,585. Not only will this area guide me to a secure future but I will also be able to form and shape the upcoming youth. The job of a direct is to guide you into learning about discipline, sportsmanship skills, and respect for the sport.
From playing, to watching, to talking about them, sports have always been a passion of mine. Playing sports for as long as I can remember. From soccer to baseball, basketball to football. I´ve grown a deep passion for sports throughout my life. My passion has been so strong pursuing a career in this field just made good sense. I have a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and my courses based upon on sports business, journalism fundamentals, technical writing and the function that multimedia plays in sports journalism. While I attended Michigan State University I broadcasted the school's radio
Athletes want to be associated with agents who are reliable. Rosa states, "Athletes and entertainers face intense pressure and temptation, but many do not receive the education and counsel they need in order to plan for a secure financial future," (as cited in Levaux, 2015, p. 1). Sports are just a part of what athletes have to deal with, there’s also public relations. Any professional athlete has their own platform so when it comes to media relations, it would benefit them to have communication skills. A lot of athletes sign their first contracts when they’re still young so they have little experience dealing with media or huge amounts of money. That’s where agents come in and help them with managing money, and keeping them away from bad endeavors. The Sports Agent Responsibility and Trust Act ("SPARTA") aimed to deter sports agents from engaging in certain overreaching activities and to prevent the unknowing violation of NCAA regulations by universities and athletes (Willenbacher,

The NCAA institutions that an athlete belongs to plus parents and other honest influences should be cautious of any sports agent. They are not doing it for paternalism or for benevolence rather agents are doing it for the money. Even though many sports agents are attorneys, “attorney regulations are not enough to regulate the sports agent profession, and that even more strict sports-focused regulations are needed to restrict attorney and non-attorney agents from acting unethically” (Heitner, 2010).
As a casual reader of the sports section of this newspaper, you come across many articles depicting the triumphs of local athletes. However, very rarely do these articles describe the actual athlete behind the success. Athletes come in all sorts of sizes and shapes. They range from the incredibly talented to the horribly uncoordinated. Some are great teammates while others would rather be a one man team. Certain athletes seek out attention from the people around them while others are modest and stay in the background. The fact of the matter is that there is a wide spectrum of different types of athletes that exist in this world and no two athletes are exactly the same. However, each can be put
By far the most important part of the sports industry is the duties of a sports agent. The agent is acting primarily for the benefit of another and must never think of themselves in this agreement. These agents
Every great and not so great athlete have gotten to the peak of their career not just from their skill but from the help of their agents too. For example Julio Jones, the 6’3 220 pound wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, who has had a total of 7,610 receiving yards and a total of 497 catches since 2011. He went to Foley high school in Foley Alabama. He then attended Alabama state university. He was 6th overall in the draft to the Atlanta Falcons in 2011. But like I said he wouldn’t have been able to do everything he has done without is agent Jimmy Sexton. Jimmy Sexton is a football agent with 54 clients. He has 842.7 million dollars’ worth of contracts, he does make all the money but he get a piece of all those contracts which is still a
Sports agents are used, by both athletes and coaches, to provide a buffer between the client and the prospective team. As one of their primary focus is to negotiate various contracts, many agents are attorneys as well. All agents must work with their athletes’ best interest in mind. One of the most renowned sports agents, Drew Rosenhaus, is known for his exceptional ability to take on challenges and work with athletes for the benefit of them and himself. Rosenhaus is a leader in the industry.

Ever since I was 5 years old I've always had a passion and a love for the game of football. I've grown up playing, watching, and reading about football everyday, 14 years later, it is definitely still a very big part of my life. As a youngster, I've always had the dream of playing Football professionally, I couldn't imagine myself doing anything other than playing football for a living, I've always said, "The day I get paid to play football is the day I've reached my ultimate goal in life".
Due to the nature and complexity of contracts, agents are expected to have a background in contract law and be knowledgeable in finance, business management, financial and risk analysis, and of course, sports. In order to be a successful sports agent one must not only be a great negotiator, but also be highly motivated, have exceptional communication skills, be prepared to work long hours and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
