The horror genre has been around for over a century and horror novels have been around for awhile longer. Many people try to comprehend why people subject themselves to onscreen terrors considering people get get scared by a good amount of movies with pop out scenes or are left wanting to triple check lock and sprint out of the dark. The reason people watch horror movies is because they want to experience firsthand fear and become more physically aware without being in danger. Every person is different though, my reasoning for watching and loving horror films is based off of personal experiences, other peoples could be because of the different sub genres in horror or or more psychological because it triggers a memory for them, there is also
They aim to elicit responses of fear or revulsion from their audience, whether through suggestion and the creation of mood or by graphic representation. Horror paradoxically provides pleasure, providing a controlled response of fear that is presumably cathartic. Stories of fear and the unknown are timeless. The biggest aim is to make money. But they play on basic concepts of good vs. evil. They make a formula out of promiscuity equaling a form of badness that ends in death while virtue and virginity means probable survival. They love to use basic themes that get exaggerated to create fears that are familiar and creepy.

The single human mind isn't always born with several outrageous fears, but they are incorporated in during the journey of life. There are numerous ways to obtain fears, but a majority is acquired through the horror genre. Unfortunately, as middle school students age, the horror genre is becoming more and more popular for them, therefore, them wanting to participate in this trend and lead up to them gaining certain mental health complications because of it. Some such as anxiety and phobias, insomnia, and aggressive behavior.
Horror films have been around for over 100 years, petrifying people and bringing their worst fears to life but still they can’t get enough of this sick and gory genre that is unbelievably entertaining and captivating to the audience. Horror comes with many sub-genres from your bloody slashers like Friday the 13th to your Supernatural-Horrors like The Exorcist, but in the end they all seem to do their job by scaring you and leaving you with nightmares for weeks on end. Usually Horror’s films have the same character stereotypes such as the nerd, the jock, the slut, the virgin, the junky, the tough hero, the unlikely hero and last but not least the masked murderer, but yet they all play their own part in the making of these horrors movies whether it is the extremely slow walk the killer does but almost always catches the victim, or the unwise decision to split up and investigate where the unusual noise is coming from.

Compared to springheel Jack and Carrie, we are Considered pretty normal, but there are times our anger slips out, and it causes us to do deranged things. Sometimes from yelling at someone to even murdering.Stephen King accurately explains though his stories that humans are addicted to horror because we want to have fun, be able to face our fears, and feel human compared to the abnormal.
Many people throughout the world enjoy things that scare them. These things can include scary movies, roller coasters, haunted houses, etc,. In an essay called. “Why We Crave Horror Movies”, Stephen King explains his reasoning to readers about why people are attached to horror movies. For the most part, King believes that people enjoy horror movies, because people are all slightly insane, but there is another reason that can cause people to enjoy scary events and movies.
When we think about horror, we think about death and bad things happening to good people. Horror gives a face to material that generally does not have a face. It gets our blood flowing and you cannot stop thinking about it. When is the next bad thing going to happen? Who is it going to happen to? It allows our minds to be creative and picture what we want. Horror interests people because it has the allure of being something that people are not accustomed to. Not only does it make the point of pushing the bounds of what our minds may believe is possible, but it also forces these ideas to become plausible in the minds of those reading or watching such entertainment. The idea behind horror is to create a fiction based on things that people believe is completely relevant and may even affect certain viewers, but it ultimately plays on the fears of these people, yet does so in a thrilling way.
