More than 32,000 people die each year in the United States alone due to gun related violence. These people are robbed of their future because of the carelessness of others, or even themselves. Their family and friends are no longer able to see them. All of this, because of one pull of a trigger. Many people die from gun violence each year. In order to prevent these unnecessary deaths, there should be stricter gun laws to prevent the severe loss of life, suicide, and school shootings.

Currently the United States gun control laws are ineffective and violate our Constitutional rights. 20% of gun owners own 65% of all firearms. Firearms are trafficked through the border and sold privately. The US gun control laws are taking away our rights of the second amendment, criminals will always have guns, and less self-protection.

According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self-defense. The police cannot always get there in time to stop the crime in place; so therefore, this is one of the reasons why the gun laws should be less strict. They deny people’s safety when an intruder in coming inside of their property. Nelson Lund stated, "The right to self-defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life" and "many [gun control laws] interfere with the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals.(Lund)”. Another reason why gun control laws are not a good idea is because gun control laws will not stop criminals from getting guns or breaking the law. Guns would be taken from law-abiding citizens while criminals still get their hands on weapons and completely ignore the law. While that is happening, some people think with gun laws getting stricter, it increases of the control to the government and may result in tyranny. Wayne LaPierre stated, "if you look at why our Founding Fathers the Second Amendment there, they had lived under the tyranny of King George and they wanted to make sure that these free people in this new country would never be subjugated again and have to live under tyranny." With that being said, the second amendment is there because they don’t want another tyranny rule again.

It is important that everyone can always feel safe within his or her surroundings. These days, this is rarely true. If criminals can carry weapons with them and get away with harming innocent civilians, everyone should be able to have a chance to fight back. If someone started attacking my family/friends, or myself, I would want to be able to stand up and fight for our lives.
