Why Do We Need Police Brutality?

Imagine you were walking down the street and you see a police officer. You would think they would just walk right past you or say hi but, instead they jump on you and assault you. You probably never thought a police officer who is meant to protect you would ever hurt you. This is called police brutality. Actually it has gotten a lot of attention lately. Although police brutality first arose in 1872. According to CBS news it started to be known as an actual problem in 1991 due to the Rodney King beating. The Rodney King beating was when four police officers were recorded beating Rodney King after a high speed chase in Los Angeles. What made this controversial was that the four cops were white and the victim was black. Police brutality is when an authority figure abuses their power. This often is seen as excessive force and racism. Many people may ask how is a police officer protecting him/herself a problem? What people don’t seem to understand is that most of the time officers aren’t protecting themselves but abusing their power. The real problem is that Police officers are using excessive force when it’s not the appropriate time to use it. According to ThinkProgress in 2016 1,023 people died. Families and friends are being affected. Anyone can be affected by this problem but, usually African American men are the victims of this problem …show more content…

Who would've ever thought that some police officers wouldn't be on their A game during work? You may be thinking that police officers are well trained or know how to control their angry but, a good amount aren’t. Many officers can’t control their emotions and do what shouldn't be done.
