Why Do We Write?

When I write about things I love, it helps me become really creative. If a person writes a lot , they would start loving to read. Writing allows me to be able to enjoy other people stories and ideas. While reading, a person can broaden their vocabulary, and use those words in their writings. I can apply this in the future by writing more when I have free time, and in schools when I have to write a ten page paper.

At a young age, my skills were limited, I had little knowledge about writing. While in elementary school, writing was introduced to allow us as a way to express what was on our minds. Our assignments consisted of writing in our journals daily. In the beginning, writing didn't really appeal to me. I found it to be boring and time consuming. However, journaling is a tool to help you become a better writer. It’s a way to help you express yourself.

Writing has been proven to have numerous benefits including enhancing creativity, reducing stress, improving problem solving and increasing goal achievement. In his book, Redirect, Tim Wilson shares the research and the science behind using writing to improve your life. Throughout this book, you will go through several of these scientifically proven writing exercises.

Writing is a way in which people express themselves. We write for fun, for popularity, and for practice. Practice makes perfect, so we practice writing in school. Likewise, writing helps me if I am going through something personally and if I need to express myself on paper; when I do not want to speak to anyone. Writing everything down helps me understand and think more about how I feel about a certain situation. For example, if I wanted to talk to someone about a situation going on than I would write before I went to go talk to them, so I can everything down and would be able to explain correctly.

Writing is one of the most popular forms of communication these days. With social media and text messaging in our pockets, writing is more convenient than face to face conversation. The problem with texting and social media posts is how hard it is to read emotion in the short passages. In person it's easy to tell how someone is feeling by their tone of voice, facial expressions, body language etc. If you learn how to write well you can better express what you're feeling even from miles away. Writing can also help you get a better job. I took a business class where we learned how to write a good resume. We were taught that wording is the most important part. For example instead of saying I was a sandwhich maker at Wendy's, I would say that I was a food preparation specialist at a national chain. See the difference? The ways in writing may be important to my career, academics and in the work place is that it is always needed or required. To be a teacher I have to write emails, letters and lesson plans. In the workplace I have to be able to write down a call-in. A call-in is when someone calls to place an order. Writing is very important without writing I would not be able to get through life because somewhere I would have to write something down. Being able to write is a critical skill for my life, career, academics and in the work place.

I remember when I was in elementary and I used to think the writing was pointless. Especially when FCAT was coming up and we had to write an essay twice a week. As I got older I know realize writing is not stupid at all. Writing is on the same level on knowing how to read correctly and fluently. I believe writing is important because it help you express who you are as a person. Another reason why I feel writing is so important it helps you communicate and think very effectively. Writing also is needed in every job in order to complete a task. Although there are much more reasons why writing is so important.

Writing is one of the most important skills you can have in life. Being able to construct high-quality papers, among other things, is key. Not only to get a point across, but to accurately give information, or some just like to do it for fun. I write so that people can easily understand what the point is that I'm trying to get across. There are so many different forms of writing that people can utilize however they want to, whether it's for research purposes or for creative purposes. Being able to write well is a skill that can be utilized daily and can is very beneficial whether you have to write something for school, to write a resume and to type something up for a job.

A person is a fool to become a writer. His only compensation is absolute freedom (Ronald Dahl). If I had to choose five reason on why writing is important to me and my success it would be as follows: Employability, Efficiency, Expression, Progression, and Confidence. I chose employability because a well written resume could help secure you an interview. Progression is among these choices because good writing skills can help you stand out and get that promotion. One may ask the question, why efficiency? I chose efficiency because good writing skills allows you to avoid wasting hours rewriting letters, memos, and/or reports. Writing is essential for all human beings. Not only is writing a way to paint a picture, to show everyone what you see, it's also a way to communicate. For instance, when someone is not able to speak, hear, or express their emotions, they use writing as a way to communicate. Over the years, I've come to enjoy writing, for it has helped me express my emotions, in a way it helped me get through hard situations. After entering the ninth grade, with the critiques of my peers and wonderful teacher, I was given the opportunity to improve my writing.

Why write? Why do such a thing? Why do anything? The answer is to grow-both as a person and academically. When I look back to the beginning, I realize how much my writing and reading skills have developed seeing how I have mastered the art of each course goal. Each objective has developed itself in its own little unique way.

Writing, along with reading, speaking, and listening are intricate and constructive processes that require the synchronization of complex cognitive skills. At the core, writing is a process of communicating purposeful thoughts and ideas in a variety of forms for a multitude of purposes. Writing provides learners with tools for discovering, for shaping meaning, and for reaching understanding through written expression. In reflecting on my experiences as an educator and studies in literacy pedagogies, learning to write is a tool for thinking.
