Year-round school has been sweeping the nation, but there are some places that still have the traditional calendar. Whether Florida should have year-round school has been a very hot topic. Florida should not go to year-round school because it would be hard for families to spend time together and teens are not able to have summer jobs. Even though year-round school reduces student and teacher burnout, there is no evidence to show that it helps students’ grades, so Florida should not go to year-round school. To begin with, Florida should not go to year-round school because it would be hard for families to spend time together. With year-round school having so many breaks, parents would not be able to skip work that many times. Also, if the parents are going to work, it would be hard to find a babysitter who would babysit for this long at a time. According to Text 1, “... This means that students and teachers are less tired than usual. According to Text 2, “[t]eachers and students at year-round schools experience less burnout and they spend less time reviewing material since students don’t forget everything over the summer.” In other words, teachers and students are less tired, and more poised. They also have to review less because they don’t forget as much (National Education Association 6). In conclusion, Florida should not go to year-round school because it would be hard for families to spend time together and teens are not able to have summer jobs. Even though year-round school reduces student and teacher burnout, there is n0 evidence to show that it helps students’ grades, so Florida should not go to year-round school.
