In this essay , I am talking about the Novel ''Of Mice And Men'' and I am going to explain why George is not justified in shooting Lennie .
The first way I am going to argue how George isn't justified in shooting Lennie is Religion . In the Bible of Christians , it says that ''You should not kill or harm anyone in any way'' . Lennie has touched someone and they felt like they was being raped , and he killed curley's wife even though it was on a accident it is still counted as a sin . George killed Lennie through kindness because curly and the other men was going to kill him . George didn't really plan on doing it but he did kill Lennie and that is counted as murder . Some people would highly say that George isn't justified in killing
After going through all the evidence, I still believe very strongly that George was justified in killing Lennie. In anyway someone tries to spin it there's always a counter that justifies George still did the right thing. In our lifetime where there are many cruel people we’re obligated to do the right thing no matter the consequence, even if it's hard to do, it's best for
In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie learn to travel and experience the world together as they take on a new job working on a ranch in central California "bucking barley" for the ranch owner and his son. Lennie, not being able to control his actions, hurts too many people and things and men were chasing after the two, so George decides to take action and shoot Lennie. Although some may disagree, George did the right thing by shooting Lennie because he could not have avoided hurting someone else in the future, he could not eventually learn that the things he did were wrong due to his disability, and he could not learn to eventually control his own strength.
George does not make a wise decision in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. George chooses to kill Lennie because of Lennie’s uncontrollable killing. Lennie does not mean to kill anyone but he is unaware of his strength. George thinks he is doing the right thing by killing Lennie, but really he is making a huge mistake. He believes that he is doing this for the sake of others but his decision if immoral. George was wrong for doing this, he does this for his benefit, and he is guilty.
First and foremost, George has to constantly continue to repeat rules to Lennie because Lennie is undisciplined. Like, after Slim gives Lennie a puppy Lennie brings the puppy into the bunkhouse with him even though George told him he was not supposed to. For example, after Lennie comes into the bunkhouse John Steinbeck writes that George " reached down and picked up the tiny puppy from where Lennie had been concealing it against his stomach." (Steinbeck) In this quote it shows that Lennie disobeyed the rules that George has set with him so he could get the puppy this means that Lennie is undisciplined because he broke the rules even though he knew that there were specific rules that were not supposed to be broken. consequently, George has to repeat himself many times and treat Lennie like a child by fixing the things that Lennie messes up and disobeyes the rules. So George was justified in his decision to kill
George was the most important character in Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck; if he was not in the book Lennie would not have had anyone to guide him in the right direction. George also changed the most throughout the duration of the book. He went from a determined working man, whose only worries were caring for Lennie and finding a job, to a man whose end goal was completing his dream of living on a small farm with Lennie and Candy, owning rabbits and other livestock so they could “.. live off the fatta the lan’” (Steinbeck 14)
Why George is Justified in his decision to shoot Lennie In the book Of Mice and Men, one of the main characters George shoots his best friend, Lennie. He shot him because he killed a girl at the ranch. George was justified in his decision to shoot Lennie because Lennie was dangerous and unpredictable. One reason George was justified in his decision to shoot Lennie because Lennie was dangerous to others and other things.
George and Lennie were good friends, so why did George want to solve the Lennie's issue by killing him? Did George get rid of Lennie because he was suffering or he saw an opportunity to not have to deal with him anymore? In John Steinbeck’s novella of Mice and men readers were stunned by the ending. Some readers feel that George deserves some type of punishment for killing Lennie while others feel the complete opposite. However some people don't understand that George committed one of the worst kinds of killing, he technically committed assisted suicide, and that shows that killing is never justified, there is no need big enough to kill someone even if they are in pain and suffering.
When is right time to end the suffering of a love one? This is a difficult question to answer, but it was George’s choice to make the decision that he made in John Steinbeck of Mice and Man. Even through most people would agree that killing another person is wrong, there are certain times when it would be acceptable to end the life suffering of someone. There for George was not justified in killing Lennie and he should be punished for his actions because George promised to take care of Lennie because nobody else would Lennie was a valuable member of society and he did not to take care of Lennie anymore. One reason George was justified in his decision was because George was the only person to take care of Lennie.
By the end of the book Lennie has killed more things such as, a mouse, a puppy, and a woman, so George realizes that Lennie will probably kill again even if he does not mean to, so in George’s situation killing is justified because he was protecting the world from the wrath of
In the novel “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck, George makes the painful decision to kill his best friend Lennie. If George wouldn’t have killed Lennie, Curley would have eventually found him and killed him brutally. George had good intentions towards the death of his friend and found himself in a position where he could never escape. Mercy killing is moral and is just a way to show compassion for a loved one in need. The killing of Lennie was not done with bad intent and was one of George’s only options.
George, a character in Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck was “small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp, strong features. Every part of him was defined: small, strong hands, slender arms, a thin and bony nose.” (Steinbeck, Pg.2) George was Caucasian and it looked as if he had stepped out of an old movie containing drifters, better known as migrant workers. Although physically George was very small, he had complete control over his companion Lennie, the way a father controls a son.
In John Steinbeck’s novel, Of Mice and Men, the concept of compassion and brotherly love, was portrayed by George killing Lennie towards the end of the novel. There are many events throughout the novel that leads to George killing Lennie. The factors that lead to George killing Lennie are that Curley and his posse were out to kill Lennie, George finally comprehended how much trouble Lennie was, and Candy regretted not killing his dog himself.
In the book Of Mice of Men George and lennie are travel partners. They had to run from there last job in Weed because Lennie grabbed a woman's dress. They got work slips and went to work on a farm. They are working toward their american dream of owning their own ranch. Once they are at the farm they meet an old man named Candy. He has one hand and 300 dollars. He wants to also go to the ranch with george and lennie. When they almost have enough money to buy the ranch lennie kills Curly’s wife. George then has to shoot lennie in the back of the head. I think george should have shot him in the head because, he would have suffered, he would have messed up again,if he did not suffer he would be treated like crap.
“ And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (Steinbeck 91). This evidence proves that George did the right thing because when Lennie got mad he took it out on Curley’s wife, but what if George had not done that? Then Lennie would have gotten mad again and killed someone else. Another reason is “ The hand shook violently, but his face set and his hand steadied” ( Steinbeck 106). This piece of evidence is important because you can tell George does not want to kill Lennie, but George knows in the long run Lennie will be better off. He will be better in a place where he can not get in trouble or kill anyone. George is justified because he knew Lennie and when he killed him he was just trying to help
While reading the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, there were many unjustified things happening to various people in the book. Of Mice and Men is about two friends named George and Lennie. George is struggling to take care of Lennie because of his feeble-mindedness, his inability to make good decisions, and his uncontrollable strength. Later on near the end of the story, Lennie was just with his dog that he just accidentally killed with his strength when Curley’s Wife (the “boss’s” wife that always causes mischief) shows up and starts a conversation with Lennie. Curley’s Wife later insists that Lennie could touch the “soft spot” in her hair. While Lennie was petting her hair, she tells him to stop, but he wouldn't because he is addicted to petting and stroking soft things, so she started screaming and Lennie got scared covered her mouth and accidentally killed her by cracking her neck. After killing her, Slim (The respected farmhand that help George make his decisions) , Candy (A crippled farmhand that gave hopes to George and Lennie that they could actually buy their own land), Carlson (A farmhand), Curley (The boss that caused problems for George and Lennie), and George (Lennie’s best friend) find out and they go out to shoot Lennie. George finds Lennie and he comforts him before shooting him in the head which leads to Lennie’s death. George preferred that he shoot Lennie because they were best friends and he would regret it if someone else shot him. Whether he
