The New York Times. Why I am Pro-Life. October 27 2012. To name something is to own it; therefore to name an issue means you can own it. Calling someone “right wing” simply because they are pro-lie is rather far from the truth as is calling someone “left wing” because they support pro-choice. Truth is you can be one without the other as Thomas L. Friedman explains as he talks about how pro-life is more to him than “To abort or not to abort.” It’s also on having a higher quality of life for people in America and the world over. While it should be a woman’s right to control her body and to prevent the birth of a child of rape or incest or if the child endangers the mother’s life there is still no reason to use it as a form of birth control when
They will claim that less than 4% of abortions in the U.S. are Late-term(Rich and Bourassa). That it’s not harmful to the women because less than 0.3% of abortions end in hospitalization ("ABORTION AFTER THE FIRST TRIMESTER."). Most people will say that it’s right to have any kind of abortion when you have been raped. The statistics on abortions because of rape is only about 1%("Abortions In America." ). Therefore, a very small portion is actually because of rape. The only way a late-term abortion is performed by many doctors is in a case where the woman's life is in danger("ABORTION AFTER THE FIRST TRIMESTER."). Also going along with that it is a law in most places. Whether you support it or not these reason aren’t very valid because they can be fought against.
The topic of abortion is a highly controversial discussion that has been prominent in the debates of morals and politics for decades. Most people agree that on the topic of abortion, it is like a black and white fallacy, which is an issue that only has two options. For example, a black and white and fallacy is that a person can either be a Republican or Democrat, there is no other option. In the discussion of abortion, the black and white fallacy is either pro-choice or pro-life. Despite this commonly believed two-sided argument, there is a third choice, pro-rights. Pro-rights argument is similar to that of pro-choice. Pro-rights defend the validity of abortion, by arguing abortion is within the natural, given rights of a woman; It is a woman’s right to be able to choose. This perspective focuses on the right of a women to her own body, her right of prosperity and happiness, and the lack of rights the fetus possesses.
However, a famous spokesperson on The Blaze talkshow who is a die-hard conservative didn’t follow the norm and surprised everyone with her argument on The View: “I’m pro choice, and here’s why,” Lahren began. “I am a constitutional, y’know, someone that loves the Constitution. I’m someone that’s for limited government. So I can’t sit here and be a hypocrite and say I’m for limited government but I think the government should decide what women do with their bodies. I can sit here and say that, as a Republican and I can say, you know what, I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.” People also support abortions for many more reasons than the one Tomi Lauren described, like rape, endangering the mother’s life, and being underage. Shockingly, many countries who have banned this option tend to have the highest abortion rates because women will have it done nonprofessionally. Brazil, for instance, had 416,000 in 2015. This amount is so much less when the countries have liberal abortion laws, beneficial health care for everyone, available sex education, and affordable
However, within the last decade, wrath from the opposition has heightened even more so with a focus on abortions and fetal tissue (Devi, 2015). Anti-abortionists demand an end to federal and state funding for Planned Parenthood and to push their agenda, they misconstrue the truth to create an outrage within the uninformed mass population (Devi, 2015). One common misconception due to fabrication is the percentage of abortions Planned Parenthood provides annually; Republican Jon Kyl alleged that abortions constitute “well over 90% of what Planned Parenthood provides,” (Speer, 2013). This accusation could not be any further from the truth; abortions comprise of a maximum of 3% of the services they provide, a far cry from the alleged 90% (Devi, 2015). In actuality, the services that Planned Parenthood provides for the majority are as follows: screenings for the three main cancers women face (cervical, ovarian, and breast), STD testing and treatments, contraceptives, and general reproductive health care and education (White et al., 2015). Following the blatant lies about abortion procedures, the same pattern can be seen in the latest controversy against Planned Parenthood: fetal
Today, Planned Parenthood is persistently parading the news, with advocates and opposers continually debating whether or not the organizations morals and services provided benefit society and individuals. The Planned Parenthood activist group justify their stance on protecting reproductive rights for mothers and providing free sexual and reproductive health services by claiming that their organization’s efforts lead to the fundamental ideals of the historical authors John Locke, Edmund Burke, Adam Smith, and John Stuart Mill; life, liberty, and property. They firmly believe that the individual has the right to life, liberty, and property and that their institution as a whole provides these ideas favored by the notable authors. To begin, Planned
Dr. Randall K. O’Bannon’s winter of 2013 article “40 Years: Planned Parenthood Becomes Abortion Empire” published on the National Right to Life News website was another voiced opinion added to the debate of the controversial funding of Planned Parenthood. As director of education and research at National Right to Life Center (NRLC) and an active member of Manassas Assembly of God Church, O’Bannon has made his audience aware of his knowledge and passion of the subject, and has written many other articles concerning Planned Parenthood (PPFA), its services, and its subjective data. He does not support the organization or its funding by the government. Throughout the article, O’Bannon shames PPFA’s hopes to remain in business by normalizing
The Next Battle in the War Over Planned Parenthood is an article featured in The New York Times by writer Sheryl Gay Stolberg. The article, written in response to the recent proposal put forth by the Trump administration essentially threatening to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood if the group doesn’t start preforming abortions, addresses both sides of the highly controversial and political topic of abortion by quoting the opinions of individuals from opposite ends of the abortion debate such as pro-choice Cecile Richards, the president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and pro-life Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life, an abortion opposing organization on college campuses. Stolberg also debunks the common misconception
Imagine a world where you are forced to give birth to a child you cannot support financially or emotionally, a child that was produced from rape or incest, a child that would suffer from prenatal diseases, or a child that threatened the life of the mother. That is the world that a pro life advocate sees for our nation’s future. We are all entitled to our own opinions, but the moment we start to impose our beliefs onto others is where the line is crossed. The main difference between the pro life and pro choice stance is that the pro life movement infringes on women’s right to bodily autonomy. Along with the pro life sentiment is a sense of ignorance and blatant misogyny. For example, Republican Rep. Todd Akins stated, on the issue of pregnancy as a result of rape, “It seems to be, first of all, from what I understand from doctors, it’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut the whole thing down.” Akins clearly represents the misinformation of men in particular about female anatomy. Case in point would be during the debate over an anti-abortion bill when Rep. Lisa Brown was indefinitely silenced from speaking on the House floor after uttering the medically correct term “vagina”. Republicans in the room were shocked and offended by their fellow humans anatomical structure, demonstrating the fact that if one cannot discuss a woman’s reproductive system, one should not be able to regulate or dictate it. As another tactic to shame women for
David Harsanyi’s article, Dear GOP Leaders, Stop Being Cowards on the Abortion Fight, gives a conservative perspective on how the GOP leaders are backing down in their beliefs consisting of strong issues on abortion. This article gives an in depth depiction on how the Republican Party is failing to make a persuasive argument to cut off taxpayer funding towards an organization like Planned Parenthood. Within Harsanyi’s article, it is clear, that most democrats support the idea of abortion till the moment the baby’s head comes out of the mother. Yet most individuals do not ask the Democratic Party to elaborate on their ideas.
Abortion has been one of the largest disputes for a very long time. Abortion is the action of
This article was about the organization, Planned Parenthood and defunding its establishment. Defunding Planned Parenthood has been Mt. Everest of conservative public-policy ventures for decades, throughout multiple efforts Planned Parenthood has managed to repel their failed attempts. However, in recent discovery a video that went viral “showing a nonchalant Planned Parenthood doctor sipping wine and chatting up the best way to crush an unborn child’s abdomen has gone viral for a reason — it is appalling (Donovan).” The person in the video spoke with no regards to women’s health and mental health for his workers. Said person later went on in details about the extraction of the child and its brain, which left viewers in an unforgettable
A third argument pro-life advocates have against abortion is regarding adoption. They believe that it is better for a woman to give birth to her baby at term and give it up for adoption than it is to abort it. They say that there are endless numbers of couples in the world that are not able to conceive or it is not safe for the mother to have children, that would be more than happy to adopt. As good as adoption is, the reality is that it can be very hard emotionally for the birth mother. Placing a child up for adoption can be very traumatic. The birth and the surrendering of the child may prompt various phases of grief including shock and denial, sorrow and depression, anger, guilt, and acceptance. Some women may feel it is easier emotionally to terminate a pregnancy in the early weeks while it is only a small bundle of fetal tissue. Going through a nine month pregnancy is a long and taxing process physically, mentally, and emotionally. In another situation, a woman may feel terminating her pregnancy is better than adoption if the father of the child has been abusive and wants to keep the baby. At that point, not only does that put stress on the mother thinking about the future for her child, but also brings more people into the decision, which can cause a lot of strain. Another issue facing adoption is the reality of many babies being born with serious physical and mental handicaps. Many women abort their children after finding out they have some sort of
The Republican claim that 94% of Planned Parenthood’s funds are spent on abortive techniques is misleading to the point of deception. In this statistic, they only compare the number of abortions to the number of adoption referrals and what they consider “prenatal services” –ignoring a large number
In my opinion I think that assisted reproduction is "pro-life" because the people who use the assistance for reproduction obviously really want a family and want to have a child and most of the time these people who use the assisted reproduction cannot conceive on their own. These reproduction assistance methods are very costly and it's some peoples last hope for reproducing. I think assisted reproduction is a great thing because some peoples life dreams are to have their own families and own children and sometimes their bodies just wont cooperate so they need these assistance. Some people may argue that reproduction assistance is not "pro-life" because the embryos could be lost, but there is never a 100 percent chance when conceiving normally
Recently there has been an article put on a website that talks about pro-life and why pro-life should be the only option. In the article, it states the issues that make a women's right to get an abortion wrong and that abortions should be outlawed. It says that no one should deny the fetus the right to live, that it is a human being and should be protected by the law like everyone else. That if one did not want to be pregnant there is safe and effective birth controls out there. And that society needs to be more excepting of teen mothers.
