Why I Chose Nursing

When I was younger, I fell off my bed and cracked my head on the bed frame. I was sent to the emergency room and was given stitches. I had to keep going to the doctors for check-ups and me being a child, I was curious of the doctors and always asked them many questions about their occupation. At a young age I became very interested in the medical field. My mother being a surgical technologist and my ex-stepfather being a CRNA, I fell in love with the health care system and that’s when I knew I wanted to help others by becoming a nurse anesthetist.

I have chosen to become a Registered Nurse because, I like to be challenged, I want situations to be difficult so I can use my skills and knowledge to solve them to the best of my ability. I have the drive and determination to become a nurse and care for others in different situations every day. I want to make a difference in people’s life, and I know being a nurse will help me fulfill this want.

Throughout my four years of college, I wanted to learn about myself and the world. I did not want to follow a particular path or be strict with myself. Now, as a graduate I discovered my passion for health and helping people. I want to volunteer at New York Methodist Hospital because I want to learn more about health while getting to help people feel at peace during a difficult time in their life. I am ready to learn and I am ready for a new experience. I want to learn from accomplished individuals and further my knowledge in health for when I decide to go to nursing school. At the age of 5, I had to help my grandma because she could not walk due to arthritis of the spine and knee. At a young age I learned how one person can make a difference

The institution that I have decided to attend is the University of Central Florida. The main reason why I chose this school was because it will help me save money and I won’t need to travel anywhere to get my degree. Another big reason as to why I chose this school is because they have many great programs that will help me be better prepared when I begin my career such as their Modeling, Stimulation, and Training Epicenter which is used to prepare nursing students with different types of scenarios that they might face while working and also helps them work hands on rather than watching someone else do the job. UCF was also a good choice because their Medical Mission trips could help me and other nursing students travel to other places in the

Almost thirteen years ago, my life changed when my youngest daughter was born with undiagnosed medical problems. The challenge of finding answers consumed my life. My family and I spent a significant amount of time searching for answers in and out of doctor’s offices and hospitals, always by our daughter’s side. Throughout my journey, I was able to learn a lot about the medical profession, including the differences between good and not so good healthcare professionals. We were fortunate to meet a lot of excellent doctor’s, nurses, and support staff, however, we also had our fair share of medical professionals that were not so great. Some people spend their entire lives never knowing what it feels like to be able to earn a living while at the same time fulfilling their passion or dreams. However i would be lying if i was to say that i don 't understand why. I am thirty one years of age, and deciding to make a career change and leave the job that provides a security blanket, to pursue the job that provides me with a purpose is exhilarating but nonetheless terrifying. When asked the question "Why do you want to become a nurse?" I could answer the same way that everyone else does by saying what it is I anticipate you want to hear or i can answer with my heart, I choose the latter. While a sizably voluminous part of my zealousness for nursing is centered on helping people, it goes much deeper than that for me. I have always believed that i should pursue a career that i would be proud of. That if a stranger was to ask me what i do for a living, I can answer them with a sense of pride, confidence and self admiration. Nursing would give me that. Being a nurse was my childhood dream. It started when my aunt, who was a Military Nurse shared her work experiences with me. Listening to her experiences stimulated my interest in nursing and it developed my core beliefs of community, family, loyalty, and compassion to serve the people who need medical help. It also taught me that all things worthwhile required hard work. Another factor that influenced my interest in nursing was going with my mother who was a Medical Technologist and worked at a local community hospital. At a very young age, I was exposed to how healthcare services were rendered by nurses. I was fascinated to see how they provided care to patients without hesitations, nurtured their profession and achieved self-fulfillment with what they do every day. People have always said that I am good with kids. I especially love babies, babies have been something that I have always loved, cared for, and want eventually. I want to keep taking care of them and helping them be healthy. I love science and I do pretty well in it. I have taken mostly honor science classes. I am really good with people and I have seen what it's taken to be nurse and how much work is put into becoming one. My cousin is actually graduating from nursing school this year in May and she inspired me that it was a great career choice to pursue.

As a first-generation Mexican American, I am a product of two cultures melded into one. Since my parents were raised in Mexico they never finish their education and had to work at a young age to support their family. Growing up, my parents would share stories of their childhood that contrast the life in the United States to Mexico. So, when they were given the opportunity to move to the United States, they took that as a sign to bring a better life for them and their family. Understanding the obstacles my parents had to overcome to raise me in a better environment motivated to pursue an education. I’ve known since I was a teenager that the educational path and career choice I want to pursue is nursing. As a nurse, my goal is to contribute to society and sharing my competence, commitment, and compassion to others whether is my coworkers or patients.

There is an endless amount of possibilities an individual can go with a career in nursing. Nursing has plenty of specialties to choose from and nursing work is widely available throughout the world. It is personally rewarding and emotional to have an interactive relationship with the patients. This career allows nurses to get on a more personal level with the patients and provide comfort and bed care. Most importantly we can make a difference in patient's lives by bringing hope. Nurses are guardian angels when the patients are sick or seriously ill. They are the ones that spend a lot of time with patients and build long lasting relationships. In fact, there are several reasons why I chose nursing as my profession. First and foremost is that I want to focus on changing people’s lives (Nurse Journal, 2016). As a nurse, I would study the life's value when I would be seeing individuals struggling to remain alive. Since I am fully aware that each life's breadth is a gift, I would, therefore, understand this lesson further as I would be nursing various patients daily. I greatly respect human life, I possess strong values and I am compassionate for empathy and suffering, factors that have further attracted me to the nursing profession. Second, nursing profession allows continuous learning. As I like learning, I would possess unlimited opportunities for advancing my medical knowledge. As such, I would capable of choosing to work in various departments, train to become a medical assistant and as well enter the nursing management where I would grow and mentor new nurses through sharing my knowledge

I chose this major because I like to help people. I chose nursing because I want to save lives. I’m interested in nursing also because of my mom. My mom has a lot of health conditions include diabetes, fibromyalgia, asthma, and gastritis. I help my mom on daily basis with her conditions. I love helping my mom. To me, being a nurse is far more than a job or even a career. It's an adventure, a continuous learning process that I embark on bravely each day, in search of life changing events and miracles. I consider myself to be a compassionate person who genuinely enjoys helping people, to positively impact people's lives by making a significant difference while achieving a lifelong dream, because of its endless variety and finally, I believe this is the best career path for me.

I chose to be a nurse because this allows me to interact more with people. Nursing is a great profession; it allows people to influence and touch lives. I am willing to obtain this significant responsibility. I am keen to be there for the patients through illness, injury pain, loss, grieving, birth, growth, aging, and health. I consider myself as determined and vigorous. I have the desire and determination to accomplish my goal of being a nurse. I am also thoughtful, caring, and open. I believe that my desire and traits would reflect on me being a nurse and would make me successful one.
