The Head Dean from the school influenced me to be a social worker, but one of the other reasons I longed to be a social worker is my uncle. My uncle has a disease called Parkinson’s disease, he has his own social worker and a ton of other doctors. My uncle is at the last stage of Parkinson’s disease which means he needs medicine to help him maneuver. Most people assume Parkinson’s disease is having continuously tremors, my uncle typically doesn't have tremors the medicine that he takes allows him move, without the tremors he wouldn’t be able to exert from point A to point B, be able to change his clothes, or eat.One of the reason why I bring this up is he’s social worker is marvelous she’s is understanding, she laughs with him, and assist
I was only two years old when my mother passed away. Left with an absentee father, I felt a void in my life. I was constantly misunderstood by other family members, which triggered my aggressive behaviors and communication style. Unable to cope with my emotions as an adolescent, I sought help from my school’s social worker. For the first time, it felt great to express my feelings without worrying about being judged. Through our regular meetings, she helped me improve my social development and attitude. She changed my life as I was becoming a better person. In addition, with her assistance, my family and I were able to value communication, understand each other and live in a healthier environment. This chapter of my life has inspired me to pursue a career in social work and be part of a team who continuously helps people overcome obstacles in their lives.
After reading the quote, reasons I may have decided to take social services, other than to help, did come up. I am not completely proud of every reason; but, they will help me to grow.

This career would suit me very well, I enjoy to help adults/kids no matter what they are going through. I feel that adults/kids need to have someone they can turn to when things go bad in their life. I believe I could be that person people can turn too, I want to be that
Serving in the military is an honorable career, but after seven years I knew it was time for a change. My desire to become a social worker grew in my last years of service when I was introduced to a military clinical social worker. She opened my eyes to the different opportunities I could pursue by becoming a social work. From working with children, families or the elderly there are many avenues to choose, but I decided to specialize in supporting veterans transitioning back to civilian life. Being a veteran myself I know first hand the struggles of reintegration.
The question, “Why I became a social worker,” has been asked a number of times, by many people. My response to this question is often, “I’m not sure.” I say that I’m not sure because, becoming a professional social worker was never a goal of mine. But, after being rejected by the College of Allied Health, and dropping out of nursing school, I decided to apply to Savannah State University School of Social Work, after hearing a presentation by Dr. S. Jhindani. Dr. Jhindani is a social work professor/recruiter for Savannah State, who gave this fascinating and exciting presentation entitled, “5 Reasons Why You Should Consider Becoming a Social Worker.”
Growing up my grandmother always told me to “Never be afraid to do what is right.” This is something that I live by growing up and what lead me to want to be in the helping profession. My grandmother was not a social worker, but she was very active in her community and she advocated and provided support for the community. She did exactly what a social worker would do. Growing up I wanted to have a career where I would be making a difference in others’ lives and “do what is right”.

Starting at a young age around the world children are asked what they want to be when they grow. For young children it should not even be a thought, you can barely express your emotions to others. We put such pressure on kids at a young age to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives and to pick the right profession. The typical five year old will tell you they want to be the common doctor, cop, or actor. I was one of those children that gave a generic answer.
At risk children and their families are an incredibly vulnerable population, even more so in their earlier years when children’s brain development is rapid. Often, children and their families who are considered at risk have experienced a hardship in their lives, possibly even a series of hardships, which have created disequilibrium. The process of reestablishing balance may be challenging for these families, especially if their support networks are limited. Therefore, having the support of a social worker may be vital to their ability to establish stability in their lives. I am honored to have been able to provide this support in my past work in the field of child welfare, and I am motivated to continue to support children and their families as I move forward in my post graduate work.

Social work, and more specifically therapy, is a field in which I am highly interested and that I believe is incredibly important. Taking psychology classes and further learning about the field has increased my interest in social work. Psychology is behind every aspect of a person’s life - relationships, communication, careers, and everywhere else as well. It is the reasoning behind all a person’s actions and choices. I find this fascinating, and would like to continue learning about it. Furthermore, I found learning about mental disorders and how to treat them extremely interesting. In my opinion, it is crucial to know how to help such people, and it increases my desire to pursue a career in this field. The fact that psychology is prevalent in every person’s life is in large part why social work is so important.

I stood there face to face with my social worker, she tells me worst news I have an “appointment”. That lie, I instantly knew, I run off back to my class I was in to avoid what I knew was going to happen, going to a treatment center. She then forced me out of class by getting a teacher to get me from class and I then knew my life was going to come to an end for some time. As we were getting into the car we sat in silence as I begin to tear up in the pain I was going to be facing for a while. Then I got out of the car when we got there not wanting to face the fact still till I met Marcia the main desk person and we talked some. I had to answer a few questions and all that lame stuff you do when entering a treatment center. Marcia was comforting me as she knew not a single kid likes to face treatment centers since it takes away a teen's life.I deserve where i’m in there has been a ton wrong with drugs and guys in my life.
