Why I Play Basketball
Basketball. A great game that was originated in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Basketball was created by a canadian gym coach who used peach baskets when it was raining and snowing outside. Now the sport is played all over the world. One of the most popular sports in the world, and I hated it. I hated this God given sport, until 4 years ago. When something great happened to me on April 17 2010 I turned my perspective on basketball. I really hated basketball from the beginning but then I changed throughout the way.
When I was really young around 4-10 I really loved soccer because it required endurance, speed, and it was really fun to play. And from that time I really didn't like basketball. I thought that this sport was the epitome to the league of sports. I thought that tennis was way better at the time. And I wasn’t a big fan of tennis. But I really didn’t like the sport at all. I was athletically gifted at the sport, like most other sports. I had the fundamentals from my father, and he tried to convince me to play, but I still refused to associate myself with basketball. I even disliked to watch basketball I would refuse to play with my siblings. And all that I encouraged other people to play was soccer. The reason that I loved soccer was because my first gift was a soccer ball. Since that time I was infatuated with soccer. I played it in my backyard and in the park. I never stopped playing for anything even when it was dark like 9 o'clock
Ever since I could remember, soccer had been in my life. If there was a soccer team that needed a coach, my father was always the first to volunteer. There were almost too many strenuous weekends spent hours away from home for soccer tournaments to count. My entire family, consisting of my parents, my siblings, my dog, and myself, packed in a mini-van heading to a city that I had never heard of for soccer games. But when I entered high school, all that would soon go away. I kept playing the same sport that I always had, although now I had to wake up at five in the morning for six hours of high school soccer practice in the smoldering summer heat in order to make the high school team. High School sports were more competitive than anything I had done before. I put in as much effort as I could to make the Varsity High School team, staying out past dinner to practice even longer. I was utterly divulged in soccer and trying to be the best I could be. Soon, I would regret placing a game over spending time with my family.
During the winter of 1892 in a town in Massachusetts a physical education teacher, Dr. James Naismith, at a YMCA school created a game where young men could play indoors aside from going outside in the freezing cold. To be prepared for the game, Dr. Naismith came up with some rules for the game, gathered two peach baskets for hoops, a soccer ball, and coached the first basketball game in history.
It gave me a sense of pride when my dad would come into the back yard and tell me how accurate and powerful my shots were becoming. At this point I wasn't conforming, I actually truly loved the sport. Near the end of the elementary, I was put into so many soccer camps, forced to attend so many soccer games so my dad could show me how the pros played. I was told one day I, just like Jei Ming would be destined for greatness. I was starting to become aggravated and burnt out. I no longer had the same passion for it as I did when I was younger. I had formed a new love, and that was for hockey. I wanted to play hockey so badly, I cried the Christmas my parents bought me my first pair of hockey skates. I figured finally I was breaking through, however that spring like every other one since I was 4, my dad signed me up for multiple camps. Like Jei Ming I saw how proud my parents were when I would step onto a soccer pitch and score multiple goals a game. I could see the pride in their eyes, their faces would glow. Although Jei Ming was forced to learn and play the piano, all these soccer games were just like a recital for me. I could see that my parents were envisioning me on the biggest soccer
“According anywhere from Australia to the United States and everywhere in between the game of basketball is played.” (Faurschou, “History of basketball”). The game is played anywhere where you can get a ball and something to throw the ball through. “G.L Pierce patented basketball on June 25, 1929.” (Bellis, “Basketball-James Naismith”). Basketball became an official Olympic sport in the 1936 game.
In about 15 years I have many things I need to do, as my dream job is to be an Nba player. I of course must find time to study but most of my time must be devoted to practicing and playing basketball. If I do not get into the Nba my backup job will be of an police officer. As a police officer I will attempt to be more of a so called “good” cop and not take advantage of my power. If I am a cop there will be many stereotypes of me as there is of every job/race. Ignoring these stereotypes I will attempt to strive as a cop.
The game of basketball was invented by a gym teacher Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts.
December 21, 1891- The birth of basketball. It has been changed from simply shooting a soccer ball into a peach basket to dunking a seven pound, leather ball into an iron rim. In the early years of the game, basketball was not as popular as other sports. In the 1985 NBA draft all this would change with the emergence of a 6'6" basketball phenomenon from Wilmington, North Carolina. Although going third in the draft, he recreated the game and is known as the best player to ever touch a basketball; he is Michael Jordan.
Soccer is my favorite sport, no I don’t watch it on tv, nor do I have a favorite soccer team. So, it all started when I was eight years old I believe I told my mom that I didn’t want to do a certain thing anymore and that I wanted to play a sport a.k.a soccer. She of course told me sure. So she signed me up for soccer a couple of days later. I was so happy I was jumping up and down with excitement. Little did I know that I would love the sport. So, the day of the first soccer practice I was nervous I never done anything with the team and I had these questions running in my head like what if no one likes you here? Or what if you like the sport? Or what if you aren’t even good enough ? but I let these questions slide and I had learned how to play the sport. In that amount of time I thought no more like Challenged myself and said “ Cassie you can do this you are going to be apart of this team and you are going to be the best.” From then on I challenged myself, I practiced almost all the
At age 16 I was told that I was incapable of being an athlete, I was told tennis was not a sport, I was told I could never play “a real man’s sport”. That same year, I stepped onto a soccer pitch for the first time in my life, I lined up against young men who had been playing the sport for more than a decade.Yet, I went out there with confidence and challenged them along with the notion that I could not play a real sport. Although, I was scared to embarrass myself, I knew that this decision would be one of the greatest I would ever make because of the life experiences I would gain from leaving my comfort zone for the first time,
Can i tell you why Nba is cool.I would like to make it to the nba.Because I want to be famous and I want to be rich.
Basketball is the greatest sport When you're running and dribbling up and down the court A shot here A block there Don't become a fool to bring it to shame Because basketball is the greatest game I'm on the court like I'm in a resort People laughing because I'm way to short But little do they know that this is
I like basketball because. I have been playing it for a long time. Am that I am good at it. It did not take me that long to learn about it. But I like basketball because if I make it in the NBA. Then I can give them some tickets for my game. And then pay over 10 million. And if I will be rich I would send them some money. Or I would pay for there trip. But the best thing is I get to travel around. But the bad thing I have to be on A airplane. Because I hate air planes. Because I fill like they are going to crash. And when I see other players play and I see bad injured. Like when they break a bone. Or a freak accident like when a bone but I can’t be thinking about that. Because if I keep thinking about that then I won’t play good. Or it could
Throughout my high school career I have been very successful in activities in and out of school. One of the activities that I take most pride in is basketball. I have played basketball for as long as I remember and it has always been a part of my life. By playing sports along with participating in other athletic activities it makes me a well-rounded person. In particular playing basketball has made my learning dedication and leadership in the time I have participated in it. In addition to playing basketball I manage the varsity football team. The reason I volunteer to do this is because I love all sporting activities and like to be associated with as many as I could. By being a part of the football team I have learned what it takes to run a
Mo’Ne Davis: 13-year-old, right-handed pitcher for the Taney Dragons, a Little League baseball team. Hailing from Philadelphia, the young talent has been the topic of discussion on many sports-related headlines for her phenomenal pitching ability. She is able to throw 70 mph fastballs and strike out many batters, most being young boys around her age. I wonder what it means now “to throw like a girl.”
5 seconds on the clock there no time I have to shoot; I don’t know how I’m gonna do it but I have to. The ball is yet to be inbounded I have to do this the ref hands the ball the player on the baseline, he passed me the ball in the corner I shot *clank*. I missed I closed my eyes for so long but when they opened again I was in my room laying in my bed not in a championship game but I told myself I’d never do that again I never miss that shot. Ben! I hear as I slowly get up out of my bed I look around at all my basketball posters on the wall, I slowly get to my feet and start getting ready for school. When I’m ready for school I go outside and I play basketball whether it be by myself or with my Brother I’ll play basketball. When it’s time to go to school I take my basketball, I sit in class and all I can think is basketball. Basketball is my Life.
