From the time a child is born to the day that they die, they will be told countless times to dream big. People tell them to reach for the stars and pursue the things that make them happy. Something they do not tell them is how powerful failure can be; how it can alter a person’s perspective on life and the direction they think they need to go with their future. Ever since I was a little girl my life’s goal in the FFA was to become a State FFA Officer. The concept of being able to positively impact someone’s life and promote an industry that I believe in whole-heartedly got my blood pumping. I was not prepared for failure, I only thought about success.
This goal became so heavy in my life that I forgot to ask myself throughout high school what else I wished to accomplish. I focused on it so much that it consumed every day of my life. I did not go to parties or hang out with my friends much. I spent my free time working on speeches and training my show animals so that my name might be called one more time and people could know who I was. Now do not get me wrong I loved every minute of meeting new people, making memories, and expanding my comfort zone. I lived for the late nights and the early mornings that followed. It was on these days that my love and passion for the FFA and the agriculture industry grew. When my

I honestly am happy I did not win state office because I would not have had the privilege to meet some of the most talented individuals. There is an old saying that says, college is where we meet your life-long friends. In just the past year, I can attest to that. Failing is not always a bad thing, we can always learn from it, and sometimes we realize that we were supposed to be on a different path entirely. It is important to believe in the process and know that everything happens for a reason. When one door closes a window of opportunity can
I raised commercial heifers and steers for several years, some being successful and some not as much. But all those years and activites ago, I never imagined I would be have taken on the challenges and leadership roles I have been audacious enough to face. The National FFA Organization is my most prideful youth-led organization I am apart of. I entered the FFA under the Diboll FFA Chapter my freshman year and am thankful for all of the opportunities and experiences I have received. Every year I have participated in different competitions that have developed my leadership skills and will help me in my future for career and life success. I also am an exhibitor in major and county livestock shows. I grew up raising cattle for the local county fair every year and it has been something I have truly loved to do. I have shown heifers and steers throughout my FFA career leaving with a banner almost every year. After so many years of competing and getting my name out, this is what I am mostly known for in my local show and
What I’m involved in with FFA is showing pigs, heifers, steers, livestock judging, and radio speaking, and volunteering to help out at FFA events being held by Rio Vista FFA. I am currently an FFA officer. I hold the position of the sentinel and will be taking the vice president position next year. I have done extremely well in my three years of showing animals, with my first
To begin with, getting a new learning experience and I mean being able to work with livestock and machinery. Being able to see what farmers deal with when it comes to weather, pest, and harvest time. I have learned that the FFA has been around for over 50 years. The FFA has had people that are famous like Johnny Cash. I also
The National FFA Organization (The Future Farmers of America) is not only for farmers anymore. It used to be only for farmers to help improve their crops and livestock. Now they opened it up to anyone who wants to improve themselves and their talents. The organization has turned into a community who rely on each other and help each other. Anyone who joins FFA will benefit Anyone who joins FFA will benefit because as a member students acquire skills such as responsibility, leadership, and teamwork.
When you think of FFA, you think of cows, plows, and sows, but it is so much more. Growing up with a background of agriculture has tremendously impacted the way I have grown up. Both of my grandparents raised horses, which invoked my love for riding horses. My maternal grandparents raised pigs and beef as well which allowed me to broaden my background. I used to live on a dairy farm where we bottled our own milk. I also help out on our grain farm, and I milk at a dairy farm. With all of my experience in agriculture I knew that FFA would be a good choice for an activity to become involved in. Since joining the middle school quiz bowl team in 8th grade, I have been heavily involved in agriculture. Although I was later than
When I look at the word failure I didn’t see success. But that slowly changed as I read the book What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain Chapter four. Bain, for me and I’m sure many other, have changed our view point on failure being a bad thing. He instead expressed failure as an “opportunity to learn something.” (121) As infants we grow and develop, we learn to walk by falling down a couple hundred times, and we learn to speak by babbling. By trying to walk, and trying to talk, we may fail at first. As an infant, you cannot give up when you are face to face with failure. You must get up and try again to learn. In the book, What the Best College Students Do by Ken Bain he uses people’s experiences and research to explain why failure is an opportunity to learn something new, rather than seeing failure as something bad. He asserts “people who become highly creative and productive learn to acknowledge failures, even to embrace them, and to explore and learn from them.” (100) Failure is important. If we did not get up and try again as infants, we would not be where we are today.
Clayton Christensen’s book, “How Will You Measure Your Life?” gives an example of Clayton building a Treehouse with his kids. Every piece was put together with his children. They meticulously and slowly hammered each nail. After it was finished, he noticed his children didn’t use it much. They did show their friends what they built and how they built it, and the story of them building it together. He learned that the journey and the accomplishment of building it together was worth more than the outcome. I remember a time when my manager told me to slow down and enjoy the journey. I felt she was missing the bigger picture. I could not fathom slowing down. I didn’t understand what that meant since my goals were to achieve a certain level of income and an accumulation of things by specific ages. These goals were my measure of success that I made it in life. I was a glory seeker with a need for approval and validation. I was single, and extremely motivated to create my destiny. I lacked the grounding of an integrated life. I didn’t make much time for friends and my community. I was the one who always arrived to work early and stayed late. Enmeshed in a struggle on behalf of some ideal. One night at 7pm, a leader asked if I had too much to do or nowhere to go. I answered, “Both.” My priorities were in the wrong place. My values needed to change. Failure and loss would help me to re-center and re-balance my approach and methods. Failure creates radical self-understanding and is
How does an individual’s perspective of, and response to, a crisis define him or her?
Purpose: at the end of my speech the audience should change their perspective towards failure and use it as a guideline to success.
In addition, the willingness to learn through failure can help to reach the desired destiny. Nearly everybody fears failing, because it has been associated with all sorts of negativity. Although an optimistic look on the other side of tripping or falling down in life can make someone to be successful in
Hi, I’m Logan Morris and I have been a part of the Perry County FFA chapter for the past 4 years. I have been very involved in the FFA competing in several contests, helping Ms. Cindy with the truck and tractor pulls and the Easter egg hunts, and even going to forestry camp. I have competed in the Envirothon, horse judging, and land judging. My group was lucky enough to even come in third place in land judging. I have been blessed to receive my Greenhand Degree, Chapter Degree, and even my State Degree. Receiving my State Degree was one of the happiest moment of my life because I had been working for that moment for a long time. The FFA to me is not just a club but a family. If it wasn’t for the FFA I would have never met all the people I have and formed friendships that will last a lifetime.
The word “failure”, by definition, is the condition of not achieving the desired end or ends. However, this standard definition does not come close to summing up the countless other meanings of failure. Every person, regardless of status, color, or sex, has had to deal with this issue at least once in their lifetime. Even so, each person’s definition of it can vary depending on their personal experiences. The interpretations of failure may differ, but failure itself involves not putting forth effort, being a disappointment, or not succeeding in a task.
Failure is something that we cannot go through life without experiencing. The best thing about failure is that failure can be used as a great learning experience to improve upon things in our lives and career. Using failure as a learning tool is dependent upon the person and how they view it as well as how they use it. Failure is a matter of perspective and the lessons in failure are important aspects towards growth and development. If we did not experience failure there wouldn’t be opportunities for learning. Failure can teach us about ourselves as well as provide an understanding for our
Failure often times leads a person to feel helpless, disappointed and depressed. However, one should not allow this to set them back in trying to achieve the ultimate aim one has set out to do. Failure in the beginning can often be a powerful incentive to reassess one’s position in wanting to achieve the particular aims; to analyse whether the purpose is worth the trouble the person has to undergo and the whether the obstacles are surmountable.
Traditionally, failure is seen as a negative concept and is defined as lacking success. I, on the other hand, try to put a positive spin on everything in life. I see failure as an obstacle that is experienced by all, but it does not define an individual. Failure in essence will force an individual to be more receptive to their surroundings and actions and also will force an individual to mature. Looking back on my childhood years I can now pinpoint the areas where I failed and I can confidently say that I have grown and prospered due to those failures. The three major failures I have experienced were my attention deficit issues which affected my ability to succeed in school, my anti-social habit that I let consume my early years, and my
