My college experience has not always been an easy journey for me. I was accepted into the nursing program at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in 2012. I went through my first year with no hesitation or difficulties. Not knowing what was ahead of me, things became challenging. Unfortunately, I had to switch my major to public health. This was tough for me to go through because not only was I no longer in the major I love, but my anticipated graduation date was pushed back; it felt like I was starting all over again. Today, I am a public health major and it is very different than being a nursing major. With public health, it focuses more on health promotion while nursing focuses on the actual health of an individual and is more hands on. …show more content…
My goal was always to become a Registered Nurse (RN) and that is what I intend to do despite my change of major. I wish to provide medical care and help others who are in need. Although I am not a nursing major at this moment, I believe as a public health major I am still learning material that will carry with me to my career as a nurse. The knowledge that I am receiving from my public health classes will also make me stronger in health education. I believe that I am my own motivation. I do not look at this as a setback, but as a learning opportunity. As a result of this journey, I will have two degrees and that is major accomplishment that I wish to fulfill. This “barrier” has made me work even harder to fulfill my dreams and to be able to make not only myself proud, but my family as well. Additionally, with the help of this internship, I will gain more experience within the health care field. It will increase my ability to interact with people, gain leadership qualities, and become more acquainted with the public health/health care field. I also wish to network and connect with those who are experienced within this field so that I too can be a part of this awesome field. That being said, my ideal internship experience would simply be to gain more knowledge about the public health and health care field through projects and workshops. Also, the ability to network with organizations and hospitals would be ideal and a great way to start my
Throughout my four years of college, I wanted to learn about myself and the world. I did not want to follow a particular path or be strict with myself. Now, as a graduate I discovered my passion for health and helping people. I want to volunteer at New York Methodist Hospital because I want to learn more about health while getting to help people feel at peace during a difficult time in their life. I am ready to learn and I am ready for a new experience. I want to learn from accomplished individuals and further my knowledge in health for when I decide to go to nursing school. At the age of 5, I had to help my grandma because she could not walk due to arthritis of the spine and knee. At a young age I learned how one person can make a difference
"The two most important days in your life are the day you were born, and the day you find out why." -Mark Twain. That has been a favorite quote of mine for as long as I can recollect. Some people spend their entire lives never knowing what it feels like to be able to earn a living while at the same time fulfilling their passion or dreams. However i would be lying if i was to say that i don 't understand why. I am thirty one years of age, and deciding to make a career change and leave the job that provides a security blanket, to pursue the job that provides me with a purpose is exhilarating but nonetheless terrifying. When asked the question "Why do you want to become a nurse?" I could answer the same way that everyone else does by saying what it is I anticipate you want to hear or i can answer with my heart, I choose the latter. While a sizably voluminous part of my zealousness for nursing is centered on helping people, it goes much deeper than that for me. I have always believed that i should pursue a career that i would be proud of. That if a stranger was to ask me what i do for a living, I can answer them with a sense of pride, confidence and self admiration. Nursing would give me that. The path that has lead me up to this point in my life hasn 't always been the the most rewarding but i did what many of us do, settled. Just letting the years pass by, and getting no closer to reaching my goal. For most of my adult life i have been in the restaurant industry working as a
I have a lot of dreams. Dreams to change the world and do great things. My first dream is to receive my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by working as a nurse for a few years to gain hands-on experience. Second, I intend to further my education by obtaining a Master’s degree and working on improving my skills, knowledge, and understandings of the nursing field. I want to be a nurse anesthetist. They administer anesthesia to patients. When I eventually retire, I intend on giving back to future generations of nurses by becoming a Nursing Instructor, educating them and watching them grow and develop into the best-equipped nurses they can be. As a result of my experiences in life, I am more mature, grounded, and I realize that even when
Have you thought about what you wanted to be when you grow up? Do you have a special talent and passion for something? All these questions and some don’t have answers for them. You have to be motivated in the career you choose. You want to pick a career that you will love for a long period of time. When you're dedicated in the work, that is how you get patients or customers to your business.
I was very popular in high school, because I was very nice and sociable and involved in lots of activates we had. I did not bully kids because I knew how it made me feel when I was younger. I joined a group called S.A.D.D and that stood for students against destructive discussions. We reached out to kids who felt alone and students who lacked the self-confidence. After I graduated my goal was to attend a community college not too far and not too close. So I chose Kirkwood. I wanted/ want to be a registered nurse. I was very determined in high school, I made sure I was on honor roll every semester! I did not have a social network because I saw all the drama it cause in school.
Life’s too short to wait and see what’s next, so let’s dive in and see my future. Many seniors often worry about tending a college after high school graduation. Just last week I started my senior year and I’m starting to get really excited. When I graduate in May, I plan on going to Hondros Community College in Columbus, Ohio to be a nurse practitioner. As I start college in the fall, there will be many setbacks, fears and people who motivate me.
I have been a nurse for 34 years and have enjoyed my experiences beyond belief, however there comes a time in anyone's life where you have to make the decision on whether to stay stagnant or broaden your horizons. I choose to broaden my horizons and put the many hours of education that I have accumulated into good use. I do get excited about learning and have always enjoyed going to school so this is a dream come true for me to finally get my associate degree. Travel with me as I take the journey to decipher all the events, influences, and obstacles that have aided in my educational decisions. If there was any event that sparked me to come to CCU it was the fact that I see men and women, way younger than me, become leaders over our clinics,
Becoming a Children’s Nurse will mean that I will be put to the test to provide the best care available whilst working in a fast paced environment. Although working as a Children’s Nurse can be demanding, the outcomes of the care I provide and the smile on the faces at the end of the day are what drive me to achieve this. The job doesn’t just start and finish with trying to fix the problem, but also ensuring that children feel relaxed, safe and cared for no matter what. This is why it’s so important to me to become a Children’s Nurse, so I can join the incredible people who care for the next generation.
As a result of my hard work and dedication throughout high school I am a prospective student of a top private university. In the near future I will be attending Gonzaga University as a nursing major. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing I will be pursing a speciality program in pediatrics. Initially, I became interested in nursing following a month stay at Children’s Hospital. After enduring emergency surgery, I was inspired by the nurses care and kindness. When I felt as if I was never going to recover the nurses would instill hope in me. I aspire to help a child and family the same way the nurses helped me. Working at Children’s Hospital would fulfill this aspiration and allow me to give back and help people in the best way possible.
I decided to major in Nursing because I knew I always wanted a career in the health field, but I do not want to go to medical school. At least right now I do not want to, but that may change in the future. Nursing interests me because I would have options about what kind of nurse I want to be, who I want to work with and the setting I would like to work in. There are a lot of topics that interest me as a nursing major. I’m mostly interested in the hands on experience and actually doing the clinical trials. I’m interested in that because I know once I start that I’ll be one step closer to my degree and that means one step closer to being a Registered Nurse. The areas that I think I will have some difficulties in are the science classes unfortunately. Science has never been my best subject, but I know I’ll have to put more of an effort when it comes to those classes.
When most potential nurses answer the question of “Why do you want to be a nurse?”, the answer is more than likely “I would like to be able to help others”. This is accurate in value, but each response has a personal rational. As a caregiver and a Nursing Assistant, I have learned the raw nature of helping others in need. I deal with clients and families at their lowest moments in life and at their highest. I find that caring and showing compassion for others in need gives me a great sense of joy and accomplishment that I take pride in.
In a introduction your required to add the topic sentence and the main points to follow the introduction you can start off using the basic thesis and main points added to get the introduction started I use the basic introduction because I have trouble when writing and using a question is a more advanced way to start off a paper. In my final essay I plan to involve a question to make my essay start off different then I usually start to change up my way of doing a essay and try something new to make myself a better writer. My example of starting off my essay will say"What is my reason for joining the nursing field"?Using this start to write my essay shows I'm going to write about why I plan to join the field and show the main points and details
To become a registered Nurse, there are a few things that you will need to know and need to know how to do. As a person wanting to pursue in this career I have done research. A lot of the information I have found is very helpful. A fun fact I learned about Nursing is that nursing industries are booming and is one of the fastest growing career.
The Humanistic Nursing Theory is the reason why I decided to pursue nursing as a career. My grandmother was near death when she entered the hospital, with acute kidney failure and low oxygen saturation. Her body was failing to compensate and they transported her to a progressive unit. My family and grandmother will never forget the nurse assigned to her that morning. The nurse made sure my grandmother was progressing, answered all of her questions, and explained why her body was shutting down and the change in lifestyle my grandmother needed to implement. As an advocate, the nurse made sure my grandmother’s wishes to not be resuscitated was enforced when she had an altered mental status. Understandably, my family wanted to change her code,
In fact, there are several reasons why I chose nursing as my profession. First and foremost is that I want to focus on changing people’s lives (Nurse Journal, 2016). As a nurse, I would study the life's value when I would be seeing individuals struggling to remain alive. Since I am fully aware that each life's breadth is a gift, I would, therefore, understand this lesson further as I would be nursing various patients daily. I greatly respect human life, I possess strong values and I am compassionate for empathy and suffering, factors that have further attracted me to the nursing profession. Second, nursing profession allows continuous learning. As I like learning, I would possess unlimited opportunities for advancing my medical knowledge. As such, I would capable of choosing to work in various departments, train to become a medical assistant and as well enter the nursing management where I would grow and mentor new nurses through sharing my knowledge
