Higher education has a variety of connotations. For some, it was the gateway out of their small town, a ticket to freedom and independence. For others, it was party central that was inconveniently punctuated by Mondays and term papers. For me, I want college to be the place where I can find myself and the sort of person I will be as an adult. I will take all the baby steps of adulthood, while still being intellectually stimulated every day with new people and new knowledge. By surrounding myself with people different from myself, signing up to take classes that truly interest me, even if they're outside my major, taking initiative concerning my finances, and making genuine connections with my professors, I plan on becoming the independent and well-rounded women I always envisioned. By meeting people who are different from me, I can learn valuable lessons about compromising and listening. Navigating conversations with someone who has fundamentally different values can help prepare me for being a respectful negotiator in my future workplace. I will learn how to listen to people and try my best to …show more content…
While I'm at college, I would prefer to avoid burning myself out by being wholly involved in only one or two related subjects, I want to know about things that genuinely intrigue me. By following my passions where they may lead, I might discover a hidden talent for something that I had never initially considered. I will also be a better thinker and problem-solver because I will be constantly and consistently cultivating the thought processes concerning all studies, not just the areas of the brain dealing with specifically the humanities or specifically the sciences. I will have the tools in my repertoire to be able to approach an issue from a variety of different angles, not confined to what is usual and
College opens up many different doors that can help you to your career path. There are many things that I would like to achieve while being in college. One thing I would like to achieve while in college is to become more independent. This is important to me because I won’t have the need to depend on anyone but myself and it will also help me mature. Some ways that could help me be independent is to believe in myself, have better decision making skills, and have a better self-esteem. Another thing that I would like to achieve is to be successful, I know that it will be hard and a lot of work but with determination I will be able to do my best. Several ways that I could be successful in college is to have better studying skills, good notes, and
In today's society a college degree will open the door to many job opportunities. The possibilities are endless compared to those presented with a high school diploma. College gives you a chance to show the world the best version of yourself. They give you the chance to get earn money for doing the thing you love. College also gives you the chance to meet new people from around the country. A lot can happen in fours years. Meeting and interacting with new people could open the door for new ways and passions for learning. The more I learn, the more I enrich my future
More people than ever before are attending college due to the endless opportunities that it provides. Louis Menand, a college professor and the author of “Live and Learn: Why We Have College,” explains the meaning of college through three theories that have been developed. Theory 1 supports the idea of the sorting-out process that separates the highly intelligent from the less intelligent. Menand’s second theory explains that college provides opportunities for developmental growth, personal growth, and teaches individuals about the world around us. These are valuable lessons that will not be learned anywhere else. Theory three supports the idea of people attending college to specialize in a specific vocation. I

College is an important place that can lead us to a bright and successful future. College success is more than academics; for us it’s learning how to become an adult for the first time in our life. In college we will develop skills to have relationships with professors, counselors, and with our peers. The whole college experience enables us to truly succeed. Meeting new people, becoming acquainted to different ideas and cultures, and mostly, the enjoyment of the four plus years of being in school. A couple of years from now we will look back at college as either one of the best or worst times of our lives. The one thing that motivates people to go to college is “career
I am writing to express my interest in the Program Coordinator position at Breakthrough Central Texas. I am interested in this position because I strongly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to attend college and fulfill their dreams, but I also know that the playing field is not leveled for everyone. I want to work in an environment that empowers and supports the youth to reach their full potential and this position offers that incredible opportunity.
College is a chance to be free and is a bridge between the real world and school. I’m an adult and expected to behave as such; I make my own choices where I have to decide what is important to me. I have an opportunity to learn how the world works, to explore the limitless possibilities and a chance to admire how vast knowledge can be. College will change my life in the way that I can develop life skills outside academics, to be fully
College is such an environment that it allows me to have freedom to choose my own classes, and have opportunities that allow me to better myself as a person. Through programs like those that help someone study abroad or complete a service project,
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. This quote by the late poet Maya Angelou fits how my life’s desire has changed. During my senior year at Virginia Commonwealth University, there was mandatory requirement mandatory to complete a clinical internship that included patient interaction while incorporating exercise. To complete this requirement, I chose to pursue an internship at Bonsecours Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center in Mechanicsville, Virginia, not knowing this internship would become a life changing experience that would literally take my breath away.
Why is it important to go to college? The generation before us says to be successful in today’s modern world you must go to college. I think that’s entirely true, but not everyone can afford it. For some people, college is not for them, but with the rise of animation and technology, all of the jobs will get taken by robots, all around the world. To stop this from happening we must get the right education so technology does not take over. That is why we should start off small and make community college free of tuition in the Yakima Valley. Making tuition free in the Yakima Valley will help fill the education gap at the bottom, the numbers gap and provide the right stuff.
Over the course of the semester in “Mapping Your Future”, I have uncovered meaning in the question “What is college for me?”. Various activities in class contributed to my self-discovery within this question including identifying my Myers-Briggs personality type, creating a family major/career tree, and reading “You Majored In What” by Katherine Brooks. Furthermore, college is the opportunity to find myself through the several moments and events available on such a large campus like Indiana University.
For instance, my father got his high school diploma, but my mother never finished grade school. My parents are immigrants who came to America to give me a better life and to have more opportunities for a brighter future; I would be the first in my family to go to college. I only have one sibling, my nine-year-old sister. I would want to be a good example for my little sister. For example, my environment has shown me nothing in life comes easy, that you should be willing to work hard for what you want.
There are several things that initially motivated me to start college. My initial motivation is to accomplish what I had started almost twenty years ago. Right after high school, I attended a Community College, which I didn’t do well, for the reason that I was a young mother and I didn't know how to balance my personal life and school work at the same time, along with having little support from my family, therefore I was not successful and I dropped out. Now that my children are older and my life is at a slower pace than before, I feel ready to go back to school to achieve my dream of having a career, not just a job. My second motivation is to become a child/adolescent Psychologist. I love to comfort out people in need, I sympathize with people's needs and I’m curious about the many developmental stages of a child as to why they think and do what they do. My last motivation is to experience a higher pay rate to obtain a greater lifestyle for myself and my family, for
Attending college for me was already a big deal because none of my siblings nor my mother have a accomplished this goal, but finding the right college and the right major for me was the hardest decision that I had to make. As a little child I knew I wanted to attend college and play a sport, so I always assumed that it would be for something in the sports field, and now in my sophomore year at Saint Peter's University I can see that it is time for a change. I want to pursue a field in social work at the university of Rutgers, I came to the conclusion because growing up I didn't have the best childhood as most children. At the age of five my mother passed away and my father was not in my life so my grandmother took us in and raised us, I have
Since the first time I read about the creation of insulin I knew that I wanted to work in the biological engineering field. It seemed incredible to me how they were able to apply engineering principles to such small organisms. I was reassured once again that this was the path I wanted to take once I started my biology classes in high school. Moreover, I my physics classes made me understand that I was not only interested in engineering for biomedicine but also for the electrical path. Circuits and electromagnetism were my favorite subjects in the physics class. Therefore, once I found out that there was a course where I could explore and study the two types of engineering I knew it was the right choice. The University of Queensland is part of the group
