Why Is Education Valuable?

Many people have different opinions on whether or not education is important or just a waste of time. By looking up successful authors and stories of people struggling to get an education, it led me to think that education is essential. Education is so valuable that it can open up door after door of opportunities.

Education is one of the most effective ways to improve quality of life. Education is needed for expanding knowledge. It makes one’s brain healthy and filled with knowledge and new material s/he may never knew before. It is needed to succeed, reach greater heights, and find a good job. Without education, a lot of people might be beggars. Everything learnt is needed to take seriously, and valued with all respect. If people did not have an education, they might be unfortunate and yearning for it even more. Education is more than just learning, homework, and studying. It helps humans learn what has happened in the past, present, and what could possibly happen in the future.

It is hard to imagine anyone would question the importance of education, those who understand the importance of education know education is a priceless tool capable of providing limitless opportunities and the higher your education attainment. The better your opportunities the better quality of life you can be. Education offers resourcefulness from a sharpened set of problem-solving skills; It allows you to develop social skills through interacting with people you do not normally interact with; It exposes you to experience with diversity and lets you see different points of view; It gives you a better, more developed understanding of the world around you; It helps you build opinions and have points of view on things in life. It boosts your career progression to higher salaries. Furthermore, if this is not enough to convince anyone to pursue the highest education of their potential, then let’s discuss what research says about educated people. According to the American Psychological Association (APA) people who do not graduate high school are likely to seek social services, be unemployed and live in property, engage in crime and face health problems more than people who graduate. Also, according to the APA “The United States is facing a dropout crisis, with an estimated 1.1 million members of the 2012 high school graduating class not earning diplomas.” (APA).

Everyone needs education to get further in life. For example a person who went to college can get a higher paid job than someone who did not go to college. This is why education

Once upon a time, there was a six-year-old girl who lived with her elderly grandmother after she lost her mother to a massive heart attack. On one hot summer day, the grandmother is reading, telling stories and speaking to the little girl. At one point the grandmother said “I want you to get your education.” The little girl asked “Why is getting my education important?” Her grandmother responded with “You need your education so you can take care of yourself and maybe me when you’re older; just promise me you will get your education.” Her granddaughter said, “I promise grandma, but school is really hard and I don’t like it.” The elderly woman laughs softly and said “I know its hard baby, but don’t give up and if you need help just ask for help.” The young one smiled and said “Okay I’ll try my best and get my education.” The grandmother also smiles with her.

Education is a human right, it provides security, and gives us knowledge of the world around us. It is a human right included in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 26; “Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages.” Education provides security in many forms. Without education, you do not have security. Education provides security by being well aware and learning information about the world around you. If you did not know what has been happening around you, how to protect yourself, or how to read you would not feel secure. Education intertwines with security which is also a human right. The importance of education in the United States is stressed in words, by people who act like they want you to succeed, but do not push or motivate you to do so. My generation does want things handed to us without much effort having to be put in by us, but for most part if people push us to do things we will want to go above and beyond. I speak from my personal experience, but I know I am not the only person that can relate. People go to school just to receive a diploma or to get a degree, simply because it is instilled in us throughout our school years that if we don’t have a diploma or degree we won’t be able to get a job and be successful in life. McDonald’s will not even hire you without a high school diploma, so people do the bare minimum just to get that diploma. Students go to school to earn a grade, not to learn. I was one of those students that paid attention just so I could pass the test, then never bother to revisit what I learned.

In the modern society, with increasing competitive pressure within individuals and countries, well-educated elites are needed. While more people realize the importance of education, in many countries, there are still a large quantity of problems with education such as education inequality and low quality education. In order to solve these problems, governments should restore more funds on education, since it can help eliminate the social inequality, bring more skilled workers, and raise the country's economical incomes.

The topic on whether education is considered a human right or privilege has been one of the most interesting debates around the world. If people are continually denied access to an equal education, then their words would go underneath and their voices would go unheard. All those who were denied the human right to be able to express their ideas would ultimately lead to an even larger division between the classes. Each and every one has the right to an education that will equip them to achieve a suitable life and be a valuable part of society. A country is only able to grow and prosper through the education of each successive generation. In essence, the quality of the education system defines the potential of future leaders. Without proper teaching each country could revert, fatal mistakes defining the economy, political climate, and general future of a country for decades. The importance of education is clear meaning no country is free of the scrutiny their education system will undergo; although, some countries have far exceeded expectations. Leaders in standardized testing, such as Singapore and Japan, have made the benchmark for other countries to strive after. In the United States a sense of pride accompanies the general belief that intelligence is high. Score results that reveal that this is not the case spark a sense of outrage, and blame is directed at the education system. Could it be that education is subpar in this country? Questions about the education of American students are well founded seeing as issues within have existed since the beginning. Currently the debate is over how effective the system truly is if the scores are showing a lack of understanding. Those in favor of the current conditions largely point out the advancement of education over the centuries. Going from widespread illiteracy of those unable to receive education to the highest high school graduation rates America has seen is hard to argue against. The vast majority of jobs require a certain amount of education. Education is a necessity in everyday lives. Skills that are learned in school, such as reading, writing, and simple calculations, are skills that most people use everyday. I sometimes wish that kids in America who skip school, or don 't have the time to do their homework would have the opportunity to go to a country like Africa so that they could just see how much easier it is in life
