The Dream Songs, as will be discussed, reveal a dark past, a tortured identity, and alcoholic tendencies that suppress the poet both spiritually and emotionally.
The explication of the beginning of the poem is so bizarre. The first verse of the poem talks about the speaker’s loneliness. The speaker woke up from the sleep and he is trying to tell about his dream to his old friend. However, He addressed the darkness as his old friend and started to describe it which he had done before. Also, He is saying that when he was sleeping a vision left its seeds and it was deeply rooted in his brain. In this poem silence is the taboo, what he wants to speak about he cannot. The speaker is mentioning to all enlightened people in this poem. Its theme is man's inability to communicate with man.
This song shows another key to why people can get corrupted by the attraction of power, there was a line in the song that said “I used to rule the world” and “Now in the morning I sleep alone”. This two lines itself explains why power attracts the corruptible because it was the person’s choice in the first place to be the ruler of his world, but in the end it wasn’t a smart thing to do because he was either hated by his people or was a bad ruler to become a more distressed person. So this shows how people can sometimes do
The singer portrays four characters in this piece. The first and last person heard is the narrator, who sets up the story. As the father, the singer’s voice is strong, deep, and steady. His voice sounds certain and reassuring as he is trying to calm his panicking son. The boy’s voice is loud and frantic, which makes him sound afraid.
“Just the Way You Are” the lead digital single from Doo-Wops & Hooligans, the 2010 studio album of singer-songwriter, voice actor, and music producer Bruno Mars. The Smeezingtons, Needlz, and Khalil Walton were the composer of the song. It is a love story about a male who loves his girlfriend very much. He thinks she does not need any make-up to make her look more gorgeous because she already is. Also, he thinks she is so attractive that the whole world would stop and stare at her.
At this moment, Rob MacGregor is kneeling on the ground all dirty, bruised, with a look of defeat as he is sentenced to death. His adrenaline kicks into gear, as he breaks away and falls into the river. As MacGregor is drifting away with the stream, he is being shot at and chased. The look on his face is no longer defeat, but a look as if he can conquer it all. The song choice is supposed to amplify the amount of energy MacGregor currently has. It is supposed to keep one on the edge of their seat, waiting to see if MacGregor successfully escapes. This song has such an unsettling feeling of suspense that will help depict the courageous act MacGregor is on as he drifts down the river from Montrose’s men.
Right as the song begins, the first line gifts us with a hyperbole and a metaphor. He sings, “Mama, [I] just killed a man,” that evokes questions from the reader as they wonder what it means. Firstly, it is a hyperbole because it is an exaggeration of what he actually did. What he meant by “killed a man” metaphorically signified that he walked away from the person he used to be-- which was a straight male. To put it simply, he “killed” his former image and embraced his homosexuality. The single line is so powerful because he believed that destruction of one’s old self is necessary to move forward with their new persona. Next, he mentions feeling shivers and pain all over his body which is imagery and in a way, an allusion as well. The discomfort
The most significant lyric, “That the universe was made just to be seen by my eyes”, shows the audience what the storyteller has grasped from this conversation with his late friend. He now realizes that anything outside of his own mind is unsure and that what his friend has seen was only for him. He understands that it is his turn to watch life pass by him, and benefit him the way it may have benefitted his friend, and in a way that will make his heart swell or ache.
From these lines, one can tell that the singer’s questioning of his strength and self worth cause his insecurity in his relationship. As Pollack discusses in his 1995 piece, society teaches men to hide their emotions and be a “sturdy oak”, and these lines show the artist sees weakness and vulnerability as flaws. Society gives men many unrealistic expectations in
A former Chinese political prisoner described his experience of brain washing: “You are annihilated, exhausted, you can’t control yourself, or remember what you said two minutes before. You feel that all is lost. From that moment the judge is the real master of you. You accept anything he says”. The strategy to which he is referring to is sleep deprivation. Research done by social psychologist Daniel Gilbert offers some insight into the fact that we are more susceptible to others influence tactics when we are tired. In a series of studies Gilbert found evidence that upon hearing someone make a statement the recipient accepts the message as true. It is only with mental effort, a fraction of a second later; the listener recognises the statement to be false and then rejects
Unusual punctuation, irony, and thoughtful syntax illustrate the conflict between what the narrator craves versus her reality. First, the narrator states that she “listened to her sentiment: / Baby, where did our love go?- a lament / I greedily took in” (10 - 12). Placing the word “sentiment” (10) instead of lyrics enhances the idea that she is listening to more than just the words, sentiment denotes to one’s attitude or view of an event. The narrator is not simply enjoying a tune, she is intently focused on the attitude this musician is intending to establish.
First of all poetry conveys the reader more better feeling about how the character feels, in stanza 7, line 25-28, it states,
This song was made to inform listeners on a few of the struggles immigrants and refugees face. In an interview M.I.A stated that the song was about people “...appearing really threatening to society. But not being so. Because, by the time you've finished working a 20-hour shift, you're so tired you just want to get home to the family. I don't think immigrants are that threatening to society at all. They're just happy they've survived some war somewhere.".
