Kids shouldn't be working I don't want to ever have to witness a child doing the work of a grown adult. Child labor is not okay and isn't for many reasons. Children will miss out on their childhood and their education if they're working. It also puts lots of stress and pressure on them, overlooks them, and not all working conditions are safe for kids.
Children miss out on their education when they're at work. When you picture children you probably think about a playground with seesaws and swing sets ,right? What about this image of a little ten year old working in a dark closet secretly before and after school. They also miss out on a good education if they work. Yes, they would probably still go to school, but if you at school
“ In 1900, 18 percent of all American workers were under the age of 16.”(Foner) Child labor is a terrible thing that children have to go through. Although this was not considered a problem because of how normal it was.(Foner.). But due to the work of investigative journalist children today no longer have to worry about working in these dangerous environments.
It is clear to see that in the picture of child labor, from document #10, that children were unhappy. They were also unsafe because of the harsh working conditions. These places are dangerous for adults and even more dangerous for kids. According to The Apostate, by Jack London, he started work before the age of 10. Jack said, “I started working when I was younger than him.” He was talking about his 10-year old brother. Imagine kids younger than 10 working in factories.
During the late 1800’s and the early 1900’s child labor was a social issue that developed in the United States. In the early 1900’s, so many children ages 16 and under were working in American mine and factories. Our kids should not be forced to work at such an early age, they need education and a good childhood that they will always remember. Some children that are as young as 4 years old are being forced to work in crammed, dangerous factories. These factories are full of poisonous fumes and diseases that can obviously kill. Kids as young as 13 are being forced to work around 13 hours a day. Working these 13 hours is exactly what most adults are working at the time. Kids are also earning a lower wage since they are minors, employers
Why would someone use child labor? At first glance it would seem that child labor is useless. However, child labor can be valuable to employers throughout time. A quote by Lewis Hine explain it best, “There is work that profits children, and there is work that brings profit only to employers. The object of employing children is not to train them, but to get high profits from their work.”(Hines 1918).
I do not think that child labor is right. Do you? I don’t because they could become social askew because
Many started young, others started in their teens, while the rest don’t know the experience. Each individual may know at least someone else who’s been or still is in this category. Past years, it was an issue but now in days it’s not as common as it was before in time. Child Labor, child labor is what kept children from attending school or even harmed them in variety of ways. They’d get what is called minimum waged, not enough money. It’d harm their way of thinking and also emotional wise. Some would say that even illness was involved with these children or worse, injuries. Owners wouldn’t have bit sympathy for the occurrence, as long as they had their job done at the end of the day.
During the Industrial Revolution employers thought that it was an excellent idea to show children how it feels to work and what labor is, and mimic adults, and earn money to survive. However, Child labor in the mines was extremely dangerous and deadly. Children deserve an education and not have their lives at risk by working.
First, There is a long line of history behind child labor, and it didn't start off as abuse. Originally farmers used their children to help work on the farm ( History.com staff, 2016). Also, if other farms needed some help they would send their kids over to help ( History.com staff, 2016). After that came the industrial revolution which created many more job opportunities ( History.com staff, 2016). The more time went on the factories hired children because they were cheap and easy to boss around ( History.com staff, 2016).
Students in highschool know a days seem to be being employed more frequently. However I don’t agree with the employment of young teens. Although some may disagree jobs take time that teens should be spending on their education. If kids are too busy worrying on who can cover their shift instead of studying for that big test coming up. They will fail in school. Teens with jobs would worry more on making money believe it or not. They also have a higher rate in doing illegal things like drugs, cigarette use and maybe behavior problems.
Minors were employed for less wages than other workers with the same amount of work and hours of labor.
Have you ever wanted to get paid to do chores or your parents have told you to do chores? While according to Megan she says “Now you might be thinking that I should just do all these for free. But chores are work you get paid to work. Shouldn't I get paid to work?” Despite, this opinion there's two sides to take into consideration should kids get paid or not paid get paid to do chores. Some kids and parent s think they should get paid or pay their kids to do chores but some parents and kids have a different opinion and think not, Children should get paid to do chore.
There are million of working children all around the world, for example, “Asia has the highest incidence of child labor (152.5 million), followed by Africa (80 million) and Latin America (17.5 million). Measured in proportional terms approximately 40 percent of African children work, while 20 percent of children work in Asia and Latin America respectively.” (Palley) ”The worldwide population of children under fourteen who work full-time is thought to exceed 200 million”. Obviously if most children participate in child labor, then there needs to be more laws regulating it and a better way of enforcing the laws. “The general minimum age was at the first 14 years, later raised to 15, and 16 for specific dangerous environments and night work”(. There are laws on the general age someone can be to work, but there are still many children who work.
There are many points that oppose child labor; and yet, in some countries, there seems to be no choice. Children, who become orphans after losing their parents at an early age and have no relatives to support them, have no choice but to work. In developing countries, such as Asia and Africa, there are very few programs that support orphans, due to lack of resources (Grootaert, 7). Parents, living in poverty, sometimes have no other choice but to send their child to work for income.
Aside from the difficulty of finding a place within a school, many children are also expected to work and to help provide for their families, as many parents cannot find a job. Many go to school all day, and then work night shifts at restaurants or factories. Many children are often exposed to extremely long working hours, dangerous types of work and many are exposed to illegal activities.
The next time when you are out on your shopping trip, chances you may have support a business that exploits children. It is very disturbing and heartbreaking to learn many children are chained to looms for 12 hours a day because families need to have their child bringing home a small amount of moneys. Child labor has always been a difficult subject to address, the topic have become much more complicated and prolific.
