nce there was a peaceful town called Pompeii. The town lived right by a big volcano. One day it exploded, and all the ash went everywhere. After all the ash fell on the people and the volcano stopped exploding, it rained, Because of all the rain and ash, the ash turned into concreate.
This tragic accident happened on Aug 24, 79A.D. Poor Pompeii was the victim of this lava spitting monster. About 2,000 people died that day, but to this day many people live there, even knowing that one day the volcano will explode.
Mt. Vesuvius destroyed the city Pompeii in A.D. 79 it killed many people and now to this day people live there. There was no warning at all.
17 years before the eruption on February 5th, the bay of Naples 30 kilometres from Pompeii was shaken by a violent earthquake. As the people of Pompeii rebuilt their town they had no idea that they would soon
The destruction of Pompeii came about when Mount Vesuvius erupted on August 24 AD 79. This eruption was not your stereotypical eruption. The mountain exploded in a long smoldering burst of pumice ash and rock. The eruption covered Pompeii and the neighboring city of Herculaneum in over thirteen feet of pumice and ash, burning and destroying almost all of the city 's. The eruption was said to last over twenty four hours. Turning day to night with clouds of dust and ash. ¨100-miles-per-hour surge of superheated poison gas and pulverized rock–poured down the side of the mountain and swallowed everything and everyone in its path. (¨History.com Staff. “Pompeii.” History.com.) Around 16,000 people died in the eruption. (“Mount Vesuvius - Italy.” ) When Mount Vesuvius erupted many people were unprepared, just standing and watching the volcano until the eruption was on top of them. Many people thought it was just a tremor or earthquake before the mountain exploded and it was too late. Many people did try and escape. Escaping by boat was impossible, the only real way to escape was to go south away from the volcano. There was mass panic in the heart of the city and most people didn 't get out in time. ¨Though my shocked
Mount Vesuvius one day erupted in the city of Pompeii and destroyed it. Mount Vesuvius left behind ash and stone that covered Pompeii. The daily life of Pompeii is similar to our daily life today. Their similarities are their jobs, gadgets, and interests.
Pompeii experienced a formidable earthquake in 62 BCE, which damaged the city; presumably, the city would not have completely recovered to its genuine state by the 79 BCE eruption (Seneca, Natural Questions). Some inhabitants left the city forever, so this left abandoned
Pompeii was located about five miles from Mount Vesuvius. When the magma fell it had clogged the air with ashes, making it hard for others to breathe. Some buildings collapsed. Pulverized - rock and poisoning gas, came down the mountain and took everyone, and everything in its path. There weare about 2,000 people that were killed. Others drifted back there to find lost relatives, and belongings and other things. It was hard though because there wasn’t much left of Pompeii. There was smaller towns by Pompeii that were destroyed as well. The towns, as well as Pompeii were abandoned for
Over 2,000 years ago, Mount Vesuvius chose the city of Pompeii to be its next victim. August 79 A.D was the fateful day that would destroy thousands of lives, and their beloved homes. When Mount Vesuvius erupted it sent ashes, rocks, and volcanic gases to rain over Pompeii and cause complete chaos. After Mount Vesuvius’ first attack on Pompeii, a tower of debris drifted to earth. Buildings collapsed and ash clogged the air. Then a surge of poison gas and rock poured down the side of the mountain, destroying everything that laid in its path. Pompeii was done for.
Mt. Vesuvius, a dormant stratovolcano, had not erupted for over 71, 500 years. The city of Pompeii was isolated from all that was outside of its borders. The only other natural disaster recorded in the area was on February 5, 62 AD, when a major earthquake occurred in the epicenter of Pompeii (Modigliani). This severely damaged the town, causing buildings, temples, and houses to collapse. The society was ignorant to natural disasters, so many were unsure how to react. Because of this, a significant portion of the population evacuated the city after the severe quakes. The towering
Pompeii “In the darkness you could hear the crying of women, the wailing of infants, and the shouting of men. Some prayed for help. Others wished for death. But still more imagined that there were no Gods left, and that the universe was plunged into eternal darkness.” written by Pliny Younger in 79 A.D. shows an extraordinary view of people during the tragic destruction of a beautiful city known as Pompeii home to over 20,000 people was destroyed by Mount Vesuvius over 2,000 years ago.
Pompeii and Herculaneum blossomed near the edge of Mt. Vesuvius. At the time 20,000 people lived in Pompeii, Pompeii was a beautiful place and loved by many. 5,000 people lived in Herculaneum and many wealthy romans liked going their because it was gorgeous. It all happened after midnight, The Mt. Vesuvius volcano erupted and it covered all of Herculaneum. The people there tried to escape to Pompeii but sadly at 6:30 in the morning the volcano erupted again but even more powerful the people who tried to escape died almost instantly
Breaking news, Pompeii and many other cities within a close proximity of Mt. Vesuvius was hit with several meters of ash on August 24 79 A.D and almost no one survived this destructive disaster. Pompeii is by the Bay of Naples in Italy and was one of the closest city to Mt. Vesuvius. That eruption of Mt. Vesuvius was caused by the African and the European plate colliding together. This city was thriving and the destruction of this thriving city made the economy weaker and humans were affected dramatically too. There was also dramatic changes the landscape. Mt. Vesuvius was one volcano on the rim of a volcano chain. The proximity of the volcano and the city of Pompeii was a disaster waiting to happen.
On that day Mount Vesuvius exploded covering a town of twenty thousand citizens in thirty feet of volcanic ash. Citizens did not expect the eruption because seismic was common. Mount Vesuvius is a Stratovolcano. Stratovolcanoes get taller overtime because of layers of dried lava. The immense heat mixed with gasses cause a lot of pressure which leads to the top blowing off letting out a burst of lava. Most of the people in Pompeii didn't die from the lava or ash, they died from heat. It was extremely hot because of the explosion so it burned people's lungs. After they were dead the hot ash covered the city preserving the city and its population for hundreds of years. (http://www.livescience.com, Mary Bagley, 27 March,
There is a song called Pompeii by Bastille that sort of tells about that night. What we was learned is not to build cities at the bottom of a volcano so they don’t get ruined by the volcano. Mt. Vesuvius had people running for their lives. 1500 people have been found but there were numbers of deaths that they are still trying to find out.
It all started in August 4th, 79 A.D. Mount Vesuvius has experienced eight major eruptions in the last 17,000 years. The 79 AD eruption is the most well-known ancient eruptions in the world, and may have killed more than 16,000 people. wiped out the entire towns in the next 25 hours. It had buried the city of Pompeii which measured up to 1,281 meters tall. some people where farther away so that meant they had a little more time than the others that lived right next to it. The people that survived the night mostly died in the morning because of the lava and the ashes traveling about two miles faster most likely. Also the toxic gas made it harder to travel due to the radiation like air to all of the travelers away from Mt. Vesuvius. The remains
The town in its height had amazing temples, a forum, and theater for the enjoyment of the wealthy visitors. The eruption of the volcano, Vesuvius, began around noon of August 24, 17 AD when the mountain exploded, sending a 10 mile high cloud of ash, smoke, and rock into the sky. The debris rained down onto the city for the next day, causing its inhabitants to seek safety along the shore line, away from the mountain. Many, however, remained in their homes and became trapped there by both debris and dust clouds. The next morning, those who remained in Pompeii were killed by the poisonous gasses released by the mountain.
Scorched. Thats how the residents of the once flourishing Roman city wound up. In 79 AD, what the people of the charming city of Pompeii once thought was a docile mountain, turned out to be an apocalypse in a can. The "apocalypse in a can" more commonly referred to as mount Vesuvius, an active volcano, buried the ancient city of Pompeii under several meters of ash. This left the city hidden from the world for hundreds of years until it was rediscovered in 1748. Pompeii was originally settled by the Greeks, but eventually became part of the Roman Empire. Pompeii has a history of being a vacation spot for wealthy vacationers, but also home to many locals. Just across the water was mount Vesuvius, a great eye candy for the tourists of Pompeii. Little did they know the danger it presented. The city remained buried under ash for many years. The death of Pompeii
