This paper discusses the causes as to why rosacea affects those who show symptoms of the disease while mentioning the possible treatments and preventions. It also discusses the reasons to why there has not been a cure to the disease and how it negatively affects a person’s daily life. Rosacea is a skin disease that is very common in people with fair skin and causes undesirable appearances. The disease can sometimes be confused with acne because of its similar appearances. However, rosacea has no cure and can only be dealt with through medication and treatments to relive the symptoms. With no direct cause yet to be proven, rosacea is thought to be caused by triggers that can make the problem worse. Therefore, research is currently being …show more content…
With such a vast number of symptoms, rosacea has been divided into four different categories due to its location on the face. Research is currently underway to “analyze triggers for rosacea flares” and searching for effective treatments that address the cause to the disorder (Rosacea Research Foundation 2005). However, a definite cure has not been found because the disease is not fully understood with the lack of research. This topic is important because it causes severe redness and irritability if left untreated and undiagnosed. In this paper, I will provide an overview of rosacea, why it is common in people with fair skin, and examine the condition and see how it is diagnosed and detected.

Rosacea is a “long-term disease” which affects the face and in severe cases the eyes (U.S. National Library of Medicine 2016). Whenever symptoms arise, many might think of it as acne due to the striking resemblance in appearance. Symptoms that come with rosacea include redness in the face, broken capillaries, acne, swollen nose, thick skin, and red itchy eyes (U.S. National Library of Medicine 2016). Frequent flushing is another early sign of the disorder and should be checked for the chronic illness. Currently there is no exact cause to why rosacea occurs; however, researchers know that the disease is caused by irritants on the skin (WebMD 2005). Further research has shown that those who tend to develop rosacea are
“Is your face always that red?” I had heard this question hundreds of times throughout my life by family, friends, and the occasional stranger, but never by a medical professional. So when the physician assistant I had been seeing to treat a recurring case of strep throat asked me this same question, I thought she was just making an innocent inquiry like so many others had before. I gave her the same answer I gave everyone who asked. “Yes, sometimes it gets worse when I’m stressed or if I’m in the sun, but for the most part it stays close to this shade of red.”
Acne is everyone’s worst nightmare, and fortunately enough medical estheticians are trained to treat it. They also treat rosacea, psoriasis vulgaris, and even vitiligo. Rosacea is a disorder where the skin has an excess of redness and can be treated with laser treatments or surgery although it will not be fully cured. Psoriasis vulgaris is a disorder where itchy and irritated skin abrasions become present on the skin. Psoriasis vulgaris can be treated with long term treatments along with the change of the client’s diet. Vitiligo is a disorder where the skin loses color in patches. The appearance of the spots are random and can cause people to feel self conscious (Christine
She has also been taking Minocin for rosacea, 50 mg twice weekly. She has been on higher doses of Tetracycline in the past with out problem.
Rosacea affects millions of women and men and can interfere with day-to-day life. It is embarrassing at best and may cause anxiety or psychological problems at worst. Rosacea is a chronic disease that may respond to oral and topical antibiotics, but some patients continue to have symptoms of persistent flushing even after taking antibiotics. Intense pulsed light (IPL) is another treatment for rosacea that has been shown through clinical research to be effective in reducing redness, flushing and acneiform breakouts for up to 77.8 percent of participants. It also improved skin texture for 75 percent of participants. Not only did IPL reduce the symptoms, the effects were long lasting. In another study at the University of Utah, IPL therapy resulted
Acne is so common a skin disease that affects over 80 percent of mostly teenagers. Most doctors are very familiar with this chronic skin disease.
Acne is a skin problem that starts when oil and dead skin cells clog up the pores. If germs get into these pores, then swelling, redness, and pus develops.
It’s a common skin disorder that involves the back, neck and face’s sebaceous glands. The majority of folks who are affected by acne also suffer with blackheads, cysts, pimples and zits.
Vitiligo is an auto-immune disease where melanocytes, the cells that make pigment in the skin, are destroyed (Vora, Patel, Chaudhary, Mehta & Pilani, 2014). It is characterized clinically by totally white patches of skin, also known as lesions, appearing primarily on visible areas of the body, including face and hands (Osman, Elkordufani & Abdullah, 2009). In very rare cases vitiligo is accompanied by itching or other somatic symptoms but gradual discoloration is generally its only physical symptom (Schmid-Ott et al., 2007). The patches develop unpredictably and while there is a genetic component to vitiligo, race and age do not affect the incidence of the disease (Gupta, Sreenivas, Mehta, Khaitan & Ramam,
The New England journal of medicine by Frank C. Powell, made interesting factual points about the skin disease of the integumentary system, rosacea. Rosacea is a common yet a very effective disease of the integumentary system. This skin disease effects patients physically and emotionally. Rosacea comes in all sorts of forms such as; ocular, papulopustular, and phymatous. These different types of Rosacea also come in different stages, stage one being mild, stage two being moderate, and stage three being severe. According to this journal Rosacea begins to effect people between the ages of 30 and 50 years old. Factors that bring on Rosacea are things such as heat, alcohol, sunlight, hot beverages, stress, menstruation, certain medications,
About 1.5 million people around the globe suffer from the (sometimes deadly) disease, Lupus. Lupus, is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks a perfectly normal tissue. Some side effects of lupus include: loss of hair, depression, sensitivity to the sun, rashes, and countless more. Our main focus is the rashes/skin portion of the Lupus disease. More than 42 percent of people with Lupus develop rashes among the skin. Our client, Kaitlyn, suffers from this disease Lupus. She receives severe rashes upon the face, this is called a butterfly rash when you get it on your face. It typically happens across the nose and cheeks, which makes it a butterfly rash. Some other spots
Rosacea is a chronic cutaneous disorder affecting primarily the convexities of the central face (cheek, nose, chin, and central forehead), often characterized by remissions and exacerbations (Wilkin et al., 2004). This disease is more prevalent in females, however, male patients tend to present with more severe cases (Utas et al., 1999).
Skin redness is the main symptom of Scleroderma known as telangiectasias. Skin redness will vary with extreme temperature changes as in Raynaud 's phenomenon. Larger areas of redness are recognized with colder temperatures whereas with warmer temperatures redness is reduced. Skin is known to become lighter or darker as the disease progresses. Also calcium deposits form lumps on the skin which is known as calcinosis.

It has a number of conceivable underlying reasons that result in the formation of many diverse types of pimples. Acne can lead to downheartedness, low self-esteem and blemishing.
Several months before my consultation with a CVS pharmacist, a small patch of skin near my eyebrow turned white and I was diagnosed with Vitiligo. Although the mechanism of action for vitiligo is unknown, after researching online rigorously for answers, I discovered that one of the possible causes is a chemical known as Rhodoenol, an active ingredient in a Japanese whitening creaming, Kanebo. Due to its phenol group, Rhodoenol can undergo competitive inhibition with tyrosine to form tyrosinase, which is a crucial step for the body to produce melanin. After doing research online, I suspect the trigger of my Vitiligo is the few Japanese whitening creams to help with the acne scars. My eagerness to find answers, determination to watch my diets, the will to exercise more to help my immune system,
