Why to Become a Vegan
A vegan is a person who chooses not to consume any animal byproducts, including: flesh foods, dairy, eggs, and any other products made from or tested on animals. Vegetarianism, however, which can commonly be viewed as the same thing, is far from it. Vegetarians chose only to not consume meat, but they continue to eat other animal byproducts. Most vegans believe that “Being a vegan is definitely more of a lifestyle choice and a philosophy that a diet” (Medical News Today). Although many people are starting to eat vegan for a week as a diet, they are not being true to the vegan philosophy; respecting the earth and all living things, promoting non-violence, and sticking to it. Veganism is a lifestyle that does not

“The average protein intake for a vegan ranges from 52-63 grams per day,” the Vegetarian Resource Group States. As stated by the Wildflour Vegan Bakery Cafe, “The average American eats twice as much protein as necessary for a healthy diet and much of that is from red meat. Getting protein from beans and grains is much healthier and reduces the risk for osteoporosis”. Basic needed vitamins like Vitamins B and D lack in a vegan meal plan. Most vegans take a B-12 supplement, because the vitamin is usually only present in animal products. Vitamin D is added to cow’s milk and some non dairy milks, but it also comes from the sun. Vegans can get a healthy dose of this vitamin if they make sure to read labels or take a supplement. Although it may be hard to get some of the basic vitamins needed, most all of the food that is being replaced, is getting substituted for a healthier option. Some people may immediately think margarine is worse than butter, but when comparing nutrition facts, margarine is actually better. Comparing 100 grams of butter and 100 grams of margarine, they both have 717 calories and 81 grams of fat. The difference is what types of fat. Saturated fat and polyunsaturated fat are bad for your body, and in butter, 51 grams out of the total 81 grams is saturated fat. On the other hand, 39 grams of monounsaturated fat is in margarine; monounsaturated and trans being the good types of fat. All of these
According to vegansociety.com, “ Veganism represents a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, other animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, other animals and the environment.“ People that follow this way of living are called vegans. The vegan diet is more a lifestyle choice and a philosophy than just a diet. The vegan life is the best way to live because it’s healthier, helps the environment, and is kinder to animals.
Vegetarians are people who do not eat meat, and for some, do not consume any animal products at all. Vegetarian has been along for a long time and with time has grown the controversy over the topic. The reasons that vegetarianism has grown into a controversial topic are mostly the human beliefs and health reasons associated with it.
Harvard Medical School defines a vegan as a person who does, “not eat meat, poultry, fish, or any products derived from animals, including eggs, dairy products, and gelatin.” (p.1). With veganism gaining more and more popularity in the media and in the western culture, debates have sprung up about whether or not this diet and lifestyle proves to be healthy. Countless studies and experiments have been conducted, and the results have shown that a vegan diet can prove to be a more beneficial diet then the standard American Diet. But, with large food corporations and drug companies in the way, Americans find it harder to switch to the plant-based diet. The vegan diet time and time again shows its outstanding power in reducing
Not many people used to know what a vegan was. Veganism was a completely new idea and has only just started to gather momentum in the last few years. A man named Donald Watson, originally from England, was the first person to found the vegan movement in 1944. This vegan movement emphasized the moral, spiritual, social, health and economic advantages of being vegan. Watson realized he would never eat meat again when he saw a pig get slaughtered on his family farm, and has not for seventy eight years (Rodger 1). Dedicating yourself to a vegan lifestyle can be a challenging thing to do because of the world we live in. “Veganism means living solely on the products of the plant kingdom, to the exclusion of flesh, fish, fowl, animal milk, and
Veganism to me it's a lifestyle where a person chooses not to consume, wear, nor use any animal products. Even though going vegan helps million of animals around the world; which is so inhumane and I don't know how people, like my family, can claim to love animals but pay to kill them, it also helps and improves many more things. For example, our health; the article says that our energy would increase if we consumed a plant-based diet, which is very interesting because if we were meant to be eating a animals then that would increase our energy but since they take so long to be digested, they are actually taking energy that we could use for other things. Our environment it's another thing that
The summer before my junior year one of my friends and I decided that we wanted to try out going vegan, just for fun, and just for that summer. I'd given up meat before for lent and I didn't think that was too difficult, and I just liked the idea of a challenge. When I started this I had no idea that it would change my perspective and my view on the world. Throughout that summer I began to educate myself on the reasons that many people go vegan, those who don't just do it for fun. I was horrified by the cruelty that I had been consuming, and how terrible it was that no one knew about it.
Veganism has been a popular topic in the media in the past few years. Veganism is abstaining from consuming or using products made from animals or products that harm and exploit animals. A common argument for veganism is common human ethics. These ethics say that it is wrong to harm a being that cannot protect itself. This creates a problem because of the violence it causes all over the world from protestors starting fights or bystanders starting conflicts with the protestors. I believe that the vegans are right when it comes to the ethics that change their lifestyle. Treating animals and testing products on them, which are not meant for them, is wrong. Especially because the animals cannot defend themselves.
Over the past few years, the vegan community has grown, especially here in the Portland area. Chances are you have crossed paths with someone who is vegan and you know little about it. But what does being vegan mean exactly? The dictionary definition of what a vegan is, as stated, “A person who does not eat any food that comes from animals and who often also does not use animal products,” (-Merriam Webster Dictionary). While this definition gives a basic description to what it means to be vegan, I interviewed a few vegan individuals to get a more in-depth understanding.
“A vegan is defined as; a person who refrains from using any animal product whatsoever for food, clothing, or any other purpose.”
Moo! That's the sound of cows being slaughtered for our own nutritional benefit, but some people intensely dislike that sound which are vegans! Being a vegan is when you are someone that does not eat meat, fish, eggs or any dairy products. Why you should not be become a Vegan is a very simple thing. This is very simple because there is no exact way for someone to eat perfectly right all of the time. This is because most vegans are actually deficient in nutrients. There is also no scientific proof that being vegan is not any healthier than other diet. Also, it is scientifically proven that our bodies need a balance of every food even meat and dairy products. This is why you NOT become vegan.
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. This includes not consuming meat, dairy, honey, eggs, gelatin, etc., as well as not using leather, feathers, wool, or products that have been tested on animals.
Although there's many benefits to being a vegan but we still need proteins. Many people get their protein from animals. Eggs have mostly 4 grams of protein in them. Why wouldn't you want to get all that protein make you big and strong. " Meat is one of the riches source of dietary protein, contains all of the essential amino acids". Proteins are mainly made up of amino acids. This determines structure and functions of proteins.
According to The Vegan Society, “Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.” (2015) The purpose of this diet is not always the same for everyone as it depends on the person who is doing the diet and their goals. Some of the reasons why people go vegan is due to abusive animal exploitations, health-related concerns, environmental problems and some people just wants to go with the trend. Lots of people try to be a vegetarian first and somewhat develops to a vegan as it is difficult to switch up as a carnivorous to a complete vegan. Their diet includes plant-based products mostly vegetables, legumes, fruits,
There are many variations of it, however most people choose not to eat, wear or buy anything that has been made or is an animal product. Some things that a vegan wouldn’t eat or wear would be animal-tested toiletries and make-up, ice-cream as it contains milk and fish as it is an animal. Going vegan can really change someone’s life, depending on many things such as the person’s personal preferences, their fitness levels and their day-to-day lives.
Some would not be able to live without eating any animal products in their diets, such as, meat, fish, poultry, eggs, dairy products, and honey. For vegans, however, this is a normal way of life. Vegans are frequently misunderstood as either people who have eating disorders, or an unnatural passion for animal rights. It is time for people to realize that veganism, a challenging yet rewarding lifestyle, goes way beyond being skinny or caring for animals. In reality, veganism can be extremely advantageous to anyone who adapts it as a way of life and has many different benefits that come along with it.
