In the book, The Witch Of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth Speare,Kit began the book as being selfish. Kit was inspired by Hannah to become more selfless. Kit became more selfless because of Hannah because Hannah had lived in Wethersfield for awhile and could show Kit how to care more for others and act more selfless. Kit began the book as a selfish, free-living girl, but as the book progressed kit became more aware of the danger was she in. When Kit first arrived in Wethersfield, she just walked into her new house,loud and proud showing off all of her dresses to her new family. A quote that proves this is “Kit, how soon are you going to open them?” “Right now, if you like,” said Kit willingly.” Judith began this conversation, proving that she was clearly jealous of Kit’s fortune and eagerly wants to see what Kit was brought from her wealthy home. This also proves that Kit was ready and eager to show off her wealth. …show more content…
A quote that proves this is, “Kit made up her mind. They would not risk the main roads. They would pick their way along the shore of the river and cut through the meadows back to her uncle’s house.” In this moment, Hannah’s house was burning and Kit offered to let Hannah stay with her until the house was replaced.This quote that proves to show that Kit wasn’t afraid to let Hannah stay in her Uncle’s house, when her house burned down. This is a bold move, because if they were caught, the whole family would be put at risk. At the beginning of the book, Kit would have never let Hannah stay with her, but Hannah inspired her to be true to herself, and be more selfless. Kit and Hannah had been spending lots of time together, and Kit realized that she was similar to Hannah in many ways including they both never seemed to fit in no matter how hard they

She desperately travels there on a ship called the Dolphin, where she meets a gentleman named Nat. She and Nat have a very playful relationship, Nat always has a mocking grin on his face and Kit occasionally flirts with him on the boat. At the end of there conversation Carol ask Mrs Kay if she thinks that she could live in a nice place when she is older if she started to work hard at school now, this shows us that Carol does not really make a effort at school and that she does not like where she lives. Mrs Kay replies to this by saying ‘Well you could try, couldn’t you, love. Eh?’ she says this as she does not want to give Carol false hope, and lie to her as Mrs Kay knows that Carol wont be able to live in one of them nice houses, but also she does not want to crush Carols dreams and make her have no hope, or be sad, so she replies with a question, so Carol still thinks that she could if she worked hard. Mrs Kay appears to be like a mother to Carol, as they have a close relationship. I think Mrs Kay treats Carol this way as Carol is close to her, and Carols parents probably do not care so Mrs Kay is there to be a mother figure in Carols life. Carol talks to Mrs Kay a lot and not really to the other children. I think that Mrs Kay feels sorry for Carol, and thinks that because Carol is such a sweet girl that she deserves better in life and just wants to be there for here.
“It might be, too, that a witch, like old Mistress Hibbins, the bitter tempered widow of the magistrate, was to die upon the gallows. (Hawthorne page 48)”. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne introduces the character Mistress Hibbins. She is the sister of Governor Bellingham, and known throughout the town as a witch. Like most characters in the book, Mistress Hibbins is an allusion to the woman, Ann Hibbins. Ann Hibbins was a woman who became known as a witch throughout her hometown Boston. Hawthorne added the allusion of Ann Hibbins in the book to help add verisimilitude, prove that Puritans overlook sin at times, and to show Hester Prynne sympathy.
Family and friends are vital for fitting in. In the novel, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Kit Tyler travels from Barbados to Wethersfield, Connecticut to stay with her aunt, uncle and two cousins. Kit is nice to her cousins but her Judith Wood, her younger cousin, does not like Kit. In this novel, Judith Wood, cousin of Kit Tyler, shows signs of being obstinate and callous, but is also spry.

Miss Leefolt has never been mean to her and has been easy going until Hilly insists that Miss Leefolt install a bathroom for Aibileen. Hilly says that installing a bathroom will increase the house value and the help “ carry different kinds of diseases” ( Stockett 10). Aibileen has not had much thought of wanting things to change because this is the way they are. It was not until Miss Skeeter asked “ Do you ever wish you could...change things?” (Stockett 12) that Aibileen starts becoming bitter about the treatment of her and her friends.
At this point in the novel, Kit is at Hannah’s house with Prudence, peacefully sitting next to the fireplace and teaching Prudence how to write. Kit had come to Hannah’s house because she was coming to give Hannah a piece of cloth, and to explain what had happened to Nat because of his prank on William Ashby.
Kit was still a toddler when the family moved farther west, to Missouri, where they settled in Boone’s Lick, Howard County. Kit’s oldest brother, William, strengthened the ties with the Boone family by marrying Daniel’s great-niece. The couple’s daughter Adaline became Kit’s favorite childhood playmate.
Wilde used many characters to represent various different aspects of society. Lady Bracknell’s character is a representation of society itself. She does everything in her power to try to keep society the way it is, and retain both Gwendolen and Algernon on the right track in order to guarantee their safe future. She is also extremely defensive of her family. For example, when John tries to accuse Algernon of not being a suitable husband, Lady Bracknell objects saying, “Algernon is an extremely, I may almost say an ostentatiously, eligible young man. He has nothing but looks everything. What more can one desire” (Wilde 1634). In this quote, The reader is able to see that she will do anything to get her family to the top, even if it means acting

“The secret garden bloomed and bloomed and every morning revealed new miracles.” This is a quote said in the movie, the Secret Garden. In the movie, the Secret Garden, based on the book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, the theme is trying to show you that you have to learn to open your heart and trust again even after you lose something or someone very close to you, this is shown in all four of the dynamic characters, Mary, Colin, Lord Craven, and Medlock.
Make yourselves at home! We've got a lot to talk about!" She said, seeming busy as a bee as ever. "I'll go make some tea, too, for the grown-ups!" She said, remembering that there were little ones in the room. Mrs. Knox had a way of seeming overly sincere, because it was all fake. She wasn't actually that cheery. In reality, she was a rather serious woman, who took things much too hard on herself. But she'd take comfort in hearing that most parents were that way. As she walked off, her husband stayed by the doorway. "She'll only be a second!" He said. "You guys can come in and sit on the couch if you want," he offered. The couch they had was a gaudy, old-looking one that was likely older than their son. The whole room was modestly decorated, but the ring that Mrs. Knox wore boasted a huge diamond. So it was unclear if the family had more money than they were letting onto, or if they had just lost their fortune over the years. And admittibly, Mrs. And Mr. Knox were older than parents of an eight year old ought to be, as they were in their early fifties. Perhaps they'd realized that they had nobody to look after them later when they got old, or were checking things off their bucket
In the story, “The Secret Garden,” Mary learns valuable lessons that will not only change her life for the better but the lives of others around her positively. As states Frances Hodgson Burnett;
