Having worked both women’s and men’s lacrosse, I have learned they are two different types of sports. Women’s lacrosse you have a shot clock and really cannot hit. During this game of women’s lacrosse, I was working the shot clock the whole game. Also, I had to call out certain times on the clock because either there was glare or if a team hit fifteen seconds on the shot clock, Karmen needed to know so she could blow the horns. The shot is probably the hardest thing I had to do this semester for the Sports Information Department. Getting there early helped a little bit because I read up on the rules of when to reset a shot clock. After reading the rules I really did not understand how to reset the shot clock. It was totally different than
For decades the sport of lacrosse has been played around the world. Originating in North America, lacrosse was played by the Native Americans for a variety of reasons. Known as “The Creators Game”, Lacrosse was used as a substitute for war and in spiritual practices as well. Lacrosse began with simple and elegant sticks, but with the use of technology has being adopted lacrosse now uses pads such as helmets and gloves as well as sticks that are made from metal. Throughout the Native Americans history the game was originally played by men and with the same rules, in the current era this has all changed. Throughout its existence, lacrosse was perceived as a brutal and violent sport that was played by savages, but it actually has a expansive history and meaning.
Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America, having been played by Native American tribes long before any European had even set foot on the continent. A century after European missionaries discovered the game played by Native Americans, they began to play it themselves, starting in the 18th century. From there, it evolved and grew in popularity from a very savage game that resembled war, into what it is today, a recreational sport played widely in America and other countries. As U.S. Lacrosse literature aptly puts it "Lacrosse is a game born of the North American Indian, christened by the French, adopted and raised by the Canadians, and later dominated by the Americans.”
The heat bears down on me, as I feel my skin burning in the hot summer sun. Dust and dirt floats around the air and a thin layer of grime covers my entire body. Sweat drips around my goggles while adrenaline fills my body and my heart races. In the middle of nowhere in Virginia, I feel at home, I feel the turf under my cleats and the cool metal of the stick in my hands. As the timer ticks down, the buzzer rings, and the game begins. I look to my left and see my dad sitting on the sideline, ready to cheer as loud as possible. To my right I find my teammates, the most loyal group of friends I have, ecstatic about the potential of winning.
On what I have read about Tennyson I am not surprised by his reaction towards Brewsters help during his lacrosse games. The reason why I am not surprised by his reaction is because Tennyson loves to winn and is very competitive, so when he had Brewsters help he got upset because he thought that he was getting better as a player. Also Tennyson feels like he cheated in the lacrosse game. When he saw Brewster on his side in pain and that he was there at the game Tennyson got mad and felt super bad because he knew that Brewster was feeling his pain instead of hin feeling it. I think that Tennyson wants to feel his own pain, because he will know when the pain is too much and he can stop playing, but when Brewster is taking his pain he doesn't know
Hockey is a sport thats origins may be from Persia, Egypt or China, while archaeological evidence shows an early ball-and-stick game played in Greece in the 400s BCE. As civilization spread, so did the games. In 1872, a young man from Halifax, Nova Scotia named James Creighton moved to Montreal, bringing the sport of ice hockey with him bringing with him hockey sticks and skates. Which in turn a man named Lord Stanley created the first national hockey organization. In 1912 the very first professional hockey game. I’ll present my information in chronological order with also talking about how and when hockey affected the country presented.
Lacrosse was once a sport played with as many as 100,000 players on in the valley at the same time. It has now decreased to ten players for men and twelve for women’s lacrosse. The positions are attackers, midfielders, and defenders. My group’s primary focus is
Lacrosse is defined as a ball game invented by American Indians, now played by two teams who try to propel a ball into each other's goal by means of long-handled hooked sticks that are loosely strung with a kind of netted pouch (Farlex, Inc.). Behind every shot taken in a lacrosse game, elements of biomechanics are implemented. Biomechanics is the “sport science” field that applies the laws of mechanics (movements, body angles, joint positions, etc.), biomedical engineering, and physics (gravity, forces, velocities, etc.) to athletic performance (What is 3D Biomechanics).
2015 was the year that sparked numerous amounts of concussions that had occurred in women’s lacrosse. ( USA Today) After this, Florida Lacrosse decided to make helmets mandatory for women. ( Bill Pennington) The results show the game injury rate was twice the rate for practice (7.5 versus 3.3 injuries per 1,000 athlete-exposures) (Snyder). A recent study found that the majority of head injuries in high school girl’s lacrosse resulted from stick-to-head contact during aggressive. Girls playing lacrosse should definitely be required to wear helmets and better protective equipment. Women’s lacrosse in high school concussions are at number two right above men’s lacrosse (New York Times). According to New York Times, headgear has also been effective in reducing head trauma caused by stick-to-head or ball-to-head contact. The number of deep bone bruises is significant do to the lack of shin guards, arm guards, chest protection, and hand protection.
I wake up grab my lacrosse stick, ball and head outside. Grab the net and started to shoot. I play of my state lacrosse team we have our first tournament this weekend and I don’t wanna be the reason that we lose. I was originally a D-pole for my city team but my coach for state thought otherwise. I could run the field in 20 seconds flat. At least that is what my coach said. I started out the day with a couple fakes and spin moves nothing hard just the kind of stuff you need to know when you want to start. My sister decides to come and play me in a 1v1 (me and my sister are competitive) I accept so we go to the plains across the street I bring the net along with us. I just school her badly 10:0 she challenged me at my own game 1st mistake.
I read the article called “ Women's Lacrosse Players Lost Their Collage, Not their Team.” This article is about the lacrosse team at Dowling College. The team was ranked top ten in the country and it finished 17-4. It tells you about how they handled this problem. They handled this problem because of the coach. She was offered a job opportunity and she took it. The administrator at at New York Institute of Technology wanted to start a girls lacrosse team and offered they job to the coach. She wanted to bring the whole team with her and two of her assistant coaches. She always put her players before her.
Lacrosse is often referred to as the fastest sport on two feet. Deriving from Native American roots, it relies upon athleticism, commitment, and one’s ability to wield a lacrosse stick. For centuries, the sport has grown and evolved as new equipment is regulated, new rules created, and new styles developed. Recently, however, a push for more protective gear has evolved outside the lacrosse community due to rising fears of increased head trauma; it incited a debate revolving around whether or not extra protective headgear would decrease the dangers of women's lacrosse. On the other hand, those within the lacrosse community, mainly players and coaches, have recognized the dangers
Lacrosse was so popular it became Canada’s national sport. Games were played all across Europe and became an Olympic sport in 1904. Men’s lacrosse was created before women’s lacrosse, but both of them became popular in Europe. In men’s lacrosse, you are allowed to check the other players with your stick and your body. You wear a helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, and mouthpiece and elbow pads.
As one of the top four professional games in the United States and Canada, ice hockey is very prominent in North America. Ice hockey athletes are required to be proficient in muscle power and speed while maintaining balance and flexibility in order to respond to on-ice movements and opposing players. As a result, players must have the muscular strength, power, flexibility, and balance to response to these challenges (Potteiger, Smith, Maier, & Foster, 2010). Player position is also a factor in athlete performance due to the specific need of each position. While forwards and defenseman have minor differences between their playtime and the characteristics of their positions, goalies are vastly different in terms of their presence and importance
Both Lacrosse and Ice hockey are two sports that share similar aspects. One example would be that they both require plenty of athletic prowess, as well as countless hours of training and practice to master. The high amount of contact in both sports enables a player to become both physically and mentally "tough". Lacrosse has grown to its highest level of popularity it has ever reached over the last ten years. Ice hockey has seen a steady climb in its popularity over the past 25 years making it one of the most popular sports in not only Long Island, but all across the U.S. However, there are many differences as well, and we should not overlook the fact that there are plenty of distinctions between the two
At the elite level, netball is a skilled and fast-paced game. It requires the use of the anaerobic systems that are assisted by the aerobic system during recovery aster short bursts of play (AIS Sports Nutrition, 2013). The game consists of seven players on court at any one time, that are limited to a particular court space, depending on their position. The game consists of four, fifteen-minute quarters with three-minute breaks between the first and second quarter, then again between the third and four quarters. A five-minute break occurs at half time.
