The food at Woodland Job Corps Center is not acceptable. The food is bland, greasy, has no flavor, and reminds me of being in prison. There is no variety in the meals we are served. We also need healthier food; the ingredients in the food do not seem natural.
As a result of the bad food, students do not eat in the cafeteria. They walk out of the cafeteria without eating. They can’t focus on their work because they are hungry. Students survive on snacks and junk food, which is also unhealthy.
Bad food makes being at Woodland Job Corps Center unpleasant. We need a variety of healthy foods and desserts. Baked chicken and fish, brown rice instead of white rice, mashed potatoes made from real potatoes and not powder, fresh greens and cabbage
The food here at Job Corps is not the best food but, we need more healthy food, like more grilled chicken, more vegetable, less fried foods.
Nationwide students waist over 70% of fruits and vegetables, while others are sitting around without food at all in other places(Public brief). Some students only get the 2 meals they are provided with at school ,but they often are not provided with enough to eat. Its import for low income and less fortunate families to be provided enough time to eat to make sure they are receiving there energy and daily nutrients(Godoy& Allison). Increasing the school lunch time will also save the schools a great amount of money(Public brief). School lunch food wasted to cost $1.2 billion dollars each year, which is enough for a person to buy a new car everyday of there life(Public brief). A simple increase in time could save schools a bunch of money needed to improve the school building and faculty. Many cafeteria staff and teachers have reported complaints about how students aren't eating all their food and they have to throw it away(EHHI). Most of the time in high schools foods are sold à la carte instead of a full meal to avoid having to throw away or make more food(EHHI). As a result of the food waste cafeterias started using foods with more fats and less nutritious items to get students to eat( EHHI). Cafeteria are selling french fries and not the healthy food to make there money because students aren't eating enough of the
I go to St. James every other Wednesday. On Wednesday, the food truck is delivered to St. James Food Pantry. The assignment for the day is listed on the white board in the back of the pantry. The assignments state what bag a volunteers are doing and what contents needs to be in each bag. In each bag, the items will consist of one item from each food group on the food pyramid. St. James is about supplying their clients with nutritional food because they want to help clients not only physical but mental. After filling the bags that the specific person is assigned to, volunteers go to help other groups and organized shelves. At that time any open cases of food: are either stock them or put them in any assigned bags. Before lunch time, volunteers start to prepare the homeless lunch and for nutrition class. My job tasks, is to prepare the homeless lunch and lunch table. I have to prepare about forty-five sandwiches, desserts, chip and juices for the homeless in zip-codes St. James serves.
Though many local food banks and schools have contributed to fixing this issue, there is much more that can be done alleviate the problem. Contacting Solano County’s schools and community leaders to expand summer food programs will benefit students who rely on school food for their daily meals. Furthermore, working with care and homes centers will not only assist the staff members, but will also ensure children and adults get a nutritional meal every day. Donating cans of food whenever there is a food drive at school or any place asking is another way to provide food for those who need it. Raising awareness to those who do not know about local food drives and programs will also help. Of course, there is always an option to start a new food drive. By lending a helping hand, there will be more smiles on the faces of children and adults who have not done so in a long
Attempting to urge student involvement and the rising costs of providing meals is a constant issue with the companies which provides meals for the schools. In the meantime, the issue remains how to increase the nutritional values of the food provided and assisting the companies that provide the food to do so and to maintain a stable program and its honesty, especially in making sure that children who are not eligible do not receive these reduced cost or free meals (Ralston, Newman, Clauson, Guthrie, & Buzby, 2008, p. iii).
I visited Meals on Wheels of Syracuse located just outside of downtown. This is facility is part of a nationwide organization which provides nutrition to homebound seniors. Some of the challenges faced by this population and therefore by this facility are participant health concerns and limitations. Many of the seniors who are enrolled in this program have health problems which include hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. These medical concerns have associated dietary considerations that must be accommodated. Meals on Wheels (MOW) staff must be notified of these concerns, and make appropriate dietary adjustments to the foods that will be served to these individuals. Along with medical concerns, many seniors also face physical limitations which may include difficulty eating, swallowing, and properly digesting foods. These issues must also be considered by MOW staff.
This results in tiredness and crabbiness. Healthy and tasty food selections should be given during lunch time and are given. Most schools sell food that are popular and interest the students to eat (@Aschenbrenner). Even doctors have agreed that junk foods affect the body in negative ways. So why take the risk and sell them to students? Because the kids want to eat stuff like that. Also, schools’ have budgets. These budgets are to help the whole school get what they need. They have enough money to buy certain amounts of food. The other money goes to the school faculty, maintenance, and campus structure. The school does not have money to serve the entire world or anything. Parents at home do all they can to serve the most nutritious and healthiest food to their kids. The school’s job isn’t to feed the kids but to teach them math, science, ELA, history, etc. All in all, schools and school boards are trying really hard to give students the
We need information about the students, faculty, and staff. What kind of food do they eat. Do they bring their own food, go off campus to a restaurant, or eat in the dining room? What do they feel they are lacking in the campus food selection? What kind of ingredients do they want their food cooked with and served? This is fundamental in knowing whether or not this initiative could be a success before the money and time is spent for no reason. I also believe that being one of the first schools in the area to offer organic healthy food as part of regular dining room meal plans would increase the number of students applying to the school, the health and wellness of the Bay Path community as a whole, and raise awareness for the surrounding communities and schools, college or other, about the benefits of having halthy food easily accessible to our growing
On behalf of the students of Clackamas High School we would like to discuss the problem of feeding in our cafeteria. We noticed that lots of high schoolers consume unhealthy lunches everyday only because they don’t have a different option. That leads to weight issues and skin problems. Lots of students just don’t realize how many junk food they are eating during those four years of studying here. I believe that everyone is able to make their own choice but when you are hungry, you don’t really care about what to eat.
Buddha once said, “ To keep the body in good health is a duty...otherwise we shall not be able to keep our minds strong and clear.” A trend started across the United States several years ago towards improving the quality of food provided for students eating school lunch. “School lunch has evolved quite a bite over the last century”(Avey). In spite of this evolution, there are many reasons why the public school system should further improve their daily lunch program. These changes would still include the daily recommended balance of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and carbohydrates. The top three reasons to improve school lunches include: obesity rate, overall grades, and lifelong habits.
Imagine that you and your family didn’t have enough food for every member of your household. It may be challenging to think about, but many people in our great town of Floyd may be unable to afford snacks or even meals for their family. We as caring citizens should take every step we can to prevent that. Doing activities such as having more food drives, asking stores and restaurants to donate, and starting a community garden, are some of the ways we can help. It may not be easy, but it is very important.
With obesity, especially among children, increasing in America, the topic of healthier school lunches is a big controversy. Schools all across the country are being forced to choose between healthy lunches and the students’ favorite lunches. Changing school menus is a bad idea. For some students, this could be the only meal he or she receives each day. This may also cause students to bring unhealthier food or skip lunch all together and substitute it with fast food.
First of all, students aren’t motivated to eat unhealthy, not-tasty food. If you observed students buying lunch in the cafeteria, you don’t often see them buying these kinds, but not limited to, foodstuffs: burritos (which are just beans wrapped in tortillas), “burgers” (meat slapped on two
Imagine if you’re working in a office and you have some food you brought with you. Does your boss have to treat you as if you make messes like a 10 year old? Why should the Sophomores,Juniors and Seniors in our High School have to be treated as if we are irresponsible eaters? Most of the students have common sense on cleaning up after themselves because we don’t want to have a rat or a disgusting bug next to our desks the next day. Therefore, I believe that the Sophomores,Juniors, and Seniors should be able to eat in class. Most of the students here do tend to need food to think more clearly for a test or classwork. We don’t want our stomachs hurting while we work because it’s a complete distraction to us. It could also be us thinking about
I am writing this letter to vent my grievance about our current food here on center. I do not like the food that we are served here. There is not much diversity in the selections we have on a day to day basis. I wished you would take into consideration to having food that is served in our homes. African students are accustomed to having cooked rice with every meal in our homes. Since coming to the center we have not had rice served with any meals. I think that if you were to look to diversify the food here the international students would feel more at home here. A great deal of us feel as if we are subjected to contemporary American foods only. I hope that you consider doing this for us in the future. Thank you for your time.
