This example of qualitative research over a period of time observing an assembly line in the slaughter division of a beef processing plant was very interesting, mostly because in my opinion most jobs involve some of the same sociological aspects. For example, in most jobs people develop consumer spending habits which become a norm based on their income, leaving them in a situation they cannot get out of. Purchasing a home, a vehicle, a spouse, or children can leave a person in a position to stay at a particular job. I have gone through this in my own life and only now was able to be lucky enough to find a way out of my former job to pursue my dream. Another interesting observation I found was the demeaning and dehumanizing aspects of their
I decided for my social observation the mall would be a good place to start. I came there on a Friday evening when there should be plenty of people to watch. I also sat in the Barnes and Noble café after that to observe. I expected to see a lot of people shopping and conversing. A few things did stand out to me within the few hours I was there. Some things I didn’t expect to see. We are expected to behave a certain way in public determined by our culture as to what is acceptable. Some people stay well within the lines while some might stray outside the norms but never too far typically. Usually the ones to travel to the extremes are adolescents and teenagers. This is what I observed.
Jayden King Jr. is a seven-year-old boy who is currently in a District 75 program. Jayden Jr. is classified as emotionally disturbed since 2014 and is currently placed in an 8-1-1 second-grade class. Jayden Jr. has a one to one crisis paraprofessional to ensure the safety of the student’s and himself. The crisis paraprofessional works closely with the student to provide assistance with assignments, staying on task and transitioning throughout the building.
On Wednesday 06/21/17 at 1437 hours I heard Auburn Animal Control G. Winner state via the radio he located a vehicle with a stolen license plate on it at White River Estates located at 4248 A ST SE in the City of Auburn, King Co, WA. Officer Winner provided a license plate WA/AIB4783 and dispatch advised it returned stolen out of Issaquah Police Department.
Over the past few weeks, I have been observing an all-girl organization by the name of EAGER Inc. I observed middle-school aged girls in Baltimore City Charter Schools. The girls have been working together for about one to two years. They interact with one another on a daily basis, and sometimes after school for programs. The groups needs came to the agency's attention through the principal of the school who noticed that the girls needed behavioral assistance. This group of girls need mentors and the appropriate guidance that will help them transform into successful young women and people who can help keep them out of trouble. The group barely got along with each other, and they always bumped heads during the sessions. The girls realized that
Roller skating rinks and bowling alleys are two places that people visit for recreational purposes. Although I have gone bowling a couple of times, I have never gone roller skating at a rink. Some people do go by themselves, while others take along a friend or family member(s). I visited both of these facilities in order to conduct field research and do a micro-level analysis so as to gather primary data from the natural environment about society and patterns of social behavior. While in public, there are certain rules of behavior that are generally followed, which are considered acceptable by the members of society (McLeod, 2008). Individuals who do not follow these norms may be shunned or suffer some type of ramification (McLeod, 2008).
To collect data I used two methods, participant observation and surveys. For participant observation, I went to Oliver Hall to get my food and observe other students’ interactions with the workers. I was able to observe and participate six times for about 30 minutes each session, and each time I was able to interact in meaningful and respectful conversations with each worker I came into contact. Since it was my own experience, I was able to take notes after I sat down on the table closest to the entrance, and then I took notes on who walked in, how many people they walked in with, and which worker was working. At first I focused on simple greetings, for example, saying “hello” or “thank you,” but then I was able to go more in depth to seeing which students make an effort to go beyond pleasantries and ask about the worker’s day or tell a joke. When I went to
On 05/29/17, I was dispatched to 3434 W. Chestnut Expressway in reference to a forgery.
Many Sociologist believe that studying deviant behavior can be exciting, rewarding, and fun. However, the study of deviance can also be stressful, difficult and filled with difficulties that can be extremely challenging. There are many ways to research and study deviant behavior whether it be in covert or overt observation strategies. Covert observation is referred to as the study in which the researcher observes a social group and does not let the subjects know they are being studied (Inderbitzin, Bates, & Gainey, 2016, p. 575). Overt observation refers to public observation in which the researcher makes the social group aware that they are being observed and the researcher participates in the behavior (Inderbitzin, Bates, & Gainey, 2016, p. 577).
The company I decided to observe is the United States Army I have been working in the Army for the past seven years, I’ve been deployed a total of three times to Iraq and Afghanistan. In the time I have been in the Army gives me a good opportunity to describe this organization.
Decent and street organize the community socially, and the way they coexist and interact has particular important consequences for its residents, and particularly for children growing up in the inner city (Anderson, 32). An incident occurred one day at the end of program when the students were being dismissed at 3:20 P.M. Sinu was sitting on a nearby stoop and the people who lived there came out and started an altercation with the students. This altercation escalated rapidly, as glass bottles broken, baseball bats, and wooden poles were clutched within the hands of the students and the adults. This altercation was broken up as quickly as possible before any physical action occurred and the police were called and did not show up until after
The email is in conjunction with the phone call that took place this morning between you and myself as well as the conversation between Tonjala ( I am unsure of the spelling of her name). On August 12, 2015, at approximately 9:27 pm, I observed that all parking in front of building 2754, 2756, 2758, and 2762 were filled. The only available parking space was approximately 20-30 yards from my apartment building, located on the other side of the garbage dumpsters. In that same location were two young men. There weren't doing anything illegal; however, I did not feel comfortable exiting my vehicle in the poorly lit parking lot with, my young infant child and my work supplies in tow. I would have had to walk past the two young men in darkened parking
Using the traditional behavior management I don’t think it will be the best approach to positive behavior support. When looking into figure 12.1 on page 216, is very hard to try to fix an individual without understanding the problem behind the individual behavior. Behavior at times is implemented by a behavioral specialist that often is outside the general classroom, at times it might not be the ultimate resolution. I am not implying that behavioral specialist input is not important, but is hard to have someone come into the classroom just one day and already have a behavior plan, which sometimes doesn’t work for the student. A one-day observation is not the same as actually really knowing the student and their up and down on an everyday living.
After observing the class of an experienced practitioner (EP), I learned that an effective lesson requires careful planning and thinking. One simply cannot teach by just walking in a classroom and come up with things on the spot. EP seemed very knowledgeable about the lesson topic and communicated clearly the lesson goals to students. I feel this is important as it helps learners see the connections between what they learn and do in class. Learning objectives must be specific and measurable according to Hattie & Timperley (2007) thus teachers need to identify activities with measurable criteria to assess those goals. EP used a variety of assessment activities and was integrated into her instruction. She used questioning, experiments, and monitoring to assess student learning. She even handed a printed rubric so students could evaluate answers on their own (self-learning). I feel it was effective but needed some improvement as some students got no direct feedback from EP and were left working on their own with no proper guidance. EP

My practicum took place on September 7,2016 from nine thirty to ten thirty. The practicum took place at Impact Early College High School in Baytown. The class I observed was Ms. Nguyen’s class of juniors and seniors that contained twenty students, seven boys and thirteen girls. The class appeared to be alert and ready to learn. Since this was their second period class they already had enough time to shake off their fatigue. The subject was Pre-Calculous and the topic was operations of functions. Students entered the classroom in a calm manner and socialized until it was time to start class. The teacher instructed the students to take their seats and take five minutes to write their assignments into their academic calendar. The teacher went
