Over the past few years, questions over the role of social class and the working-class in modern Britain have been raised. The strata of British society have been discussed more frequently than at any other time I can remember. At Oxford, I was one of the first students admitted on my postgraduate scholarship program on the basis of my achievements relative to my school, circumstances, identity, and background (after passing an initial blind, indepedent admissions process). My work in the humanties also frequently covers similar questions in a historical context, such as with Darwinian thought. I will not name any more names here. I believe this mode of debate to be insipid at best and evil at worst. I have faith that the vast majority of people I know realise this. However, much better sources of information and opinion are rarely mentioned alongside them whenever they are reported (strangely enough). It took me longer than it should have to find the useful ones. I would recommend that anyone seriously interested in this subject looks at the work of Selina Todd and Johnathan Rose for historical context, as well as the classic work of EP Thompson. Paul Mason, James Bloodworth, and Tony Sewell should be considered for society and economics. Denis Sewell has written some interesting theory on how biological science is sometimes misused to justify class stereotypes, leading on from the American biologist Stephen Jay Gould. Stuart Marconie, Alan Bennett, and Rhian Lucy-Cosslett represent some of the best, accessible voices in broadcast media, with particular reference to Rhian on disability. The recent dramatic work of Laura Bates and Ken Loach should be (carefully) considered. Journalists such as Anna Rhodes and Owen Jones have also offered their own, unique takes on
