As a Snapchat beta tester for a few years, I’d like to present a few ideas as a user that would improve the user experience. As my friends list continues to grow I find it has become more difficult to send direct snaps quickly to all my friends without posting on My Story. I’d like to see Snapchat implement a friends group feature that would allow users to send snaps directly to contacts in user generated groups. This feature would allow users to send snaps to a group of friends efficiently. I believe users should not be charged to use exclusive filters and lenses, instead we should look at increasing the engagement of Snapchat by having exclusive filters and lenses unlocked after completing certain challenges. Snapchat is, as I’m sure most of you know, a picture-sharing social media platform. What sets it apart is that pictures and videos, known collectively as “Snaps,” disappear after a time you choose, maybe 3 seconds, and can never be viewed again. Because of this, Snapchat is the app of millennials, the app of our generation, but it has a dark side.
Features like these have the potential to lead to the creation of new social media sites. From the design of social networking sites like Myspace and Youtube to that of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, there have been many developments in the social networking world that have made these social media sites popular at one time or another. Take the idea of Instagram, for example. Instagram is a photo-sharing social network that allows its’ users to edit the pictures they post. Essentially, each user on Instagram is able to create their own portfolio all the while being able to “like” other’s uploaded pictures and even have conversations with the comment capabilities available. Just recently, a social network similar to Youtube called Vine allowed its’ users to create short videos as their form of communication. This was a hit and caused sites like Instagram to come up with something, as well. In turn, Instagram added videos to their photo-sharing network—but not only can you upload videos, you can add filters to edit them, too. Social media like Facebook is constantly coming up with new updates in multiple versions for technologies like computers/laptops, smart phones, and tablets. Snapchat was released 5 years ago and today it has more than 166 million users. Despite this, many users (including myself) had a problem using its lenses feature. Lenses is a fancy name Snapchat gives to filters that the user can apply before the picture is taken. Once the application is launched there is no indicator on how to use the lenses feature. In fact, many users aren’t aware that the feature exists until they see other people use it.

The users’ obligations listed within the Snapchat ToS are the usual things asked by almost any social media company that deals with user generated content. Things like not copying, modifying, selling or leasing any of their services, not creating numerous accounts or fictitious account because you’ve been disabled, and not selling or sharing your account or password are normal obligations for social media sites.

UThe competitive analysis is an essential research process to conduct. By examining and researching it allows me to see what content and features draws new users. It also acts as inspiration research for ideas to develop during wireframing. The main competitors that would rival the Snapchat app both have a modern aesthetics and it’s clear how to use. Instagram, the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app with 600 million monthly users, targeted Snap head-on last August when it launched Instagram Stories, a feature that very closely resembles Snapchat’s own My Story feature. Similar to My Story, Instagram Stories lets people string together several photos and videos, but with fewer filters and lenses, to appear a top Instagram users’ feeds.
Despite the fact that many small startup premium fruit drink companies stayed small or even disappeared during the period from 1972 to 1993, Snapple was able to flourish. A large part of Snapple avoiding the fate of these other companies can be attributed to how successful it was in utilizing the four Ps of marketing, especially product and promotion.
