“Being Country” just those two words together come with many discussions, but the book brings another discussion. This book “Being Country” by Bobbie Ann Mason honestly had me thinking and wondering if everybody’s perspective about changes in life is the same. The main outlooks I took from this book was; When your surroundings have changed your identity will also, Sometimes a reflection of the past can help your future, and whoever you are going to be will not change.
In 1955, Flannery O’ Connor published the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” which became her best-known short story. Although many appreciated her work it received much criticism for its peculiar character, The Misfit. His callous violent behavior made people uncomfortable with her work describing it as consistently distorted and manipulative. The Misfit’s unsentimental and cruel behavior characterizes true psychological disturbance similar to that of Charles Manson and Jeffrey Dahmer. Flannery O’Connor’s “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” Is an accurate representation of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD). Through The Misfits recollection of his past, his trauma, and his lack of guilt he depicts a severe case of ASPD.
In her book, “Good Country People,” Flannery O’Connor shows first hand how one cannot judge a book by its cover… not even a Bible. Even though a façade is put on, one realizes how vulnerable Hulga Hopewell actually is. Her encounter with a Bible salesman, Manley Pointer, shows how one cannot trust even “good country people” (2). Symbolism in this story transforms what one perceives the character of Hulga and Manley to be and allows the reader to make deeper connections about their physical and mental flaws.
this case the Court considered whether the First Amendment protected non-speech acts, as Johnson was convicted of flag desecration and not of verbal communication. If acts of non-speech are protected, then would Johnson’s burning of the flag represent expressive conduct which would permit him to invoke the First Amendment in challenging his conviction. The court reiterated its long standing that the protection of speech does not end at written or spoken word, as previously decided in the case of Stomberg v. California, and Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District. The Court acknowledged that conduct may be “sufficiently imbued with elements of communication to fall within the scope of the First and Fourteenth Amendments.” Having reviewed whether the intent to convey a message was present and the likelihood that the message conveyed would be understood, by bystanders, the Court felt that there were sufficient communication elements to bring the First Amendment into play.
Therefore, the principle may not force Anthony to stand for the national Anthem or condemn Beth for “acting her faith.” In conclusion, if the school district continues with Beth’s suspension, they would be violating her rights to express her feelings. Opposers may state that Beth’s reasons were not clear as she protested, and because of the “material and disruption test”, Beth’s speech was not protected. However, Beth clarified her reasons to the principal and her student peers before they came to their conclusions. Ergo, just as Anthony’s actions are protected under our law, so should Beth’s as they took the same actions.
“It really is that simple.” Melinda Branson’s catch phrase signaled the end of her cooking demonstration and a roar of applause shot through the produce section. The makeshift stage presented her as some kind of superstar. Flashing a smile she held her tray of appetizers toward the crowd as if she were proudly showing off the royal baby.
The first day of middle school was very scary for me and it was hard bad day. This reminds me of the song “Had a Bad Day” by
The song “Innocent” by Taylor Swift shows how Holden wants to stay young and wants to save others as well. For example, Holden waits for Phoebe at the museum and remembers his past and the times that he used to spend in the museum as a kid. Holden remembers, “I kept walking and walking, and I kept thinking about old Phoebe going to that museum on Saturdays the way I used to” (Salinger 122). Holden wishes that he were younger. He wishes that he could be placed behind the glass and preserved with the rest of the artifacts.
The song “clean” by Taylor Swift speaks about her getting out of a relationship. Throughout the song she talks about how she is trying to get all the memories out of her brain and also how she just can't stop thinking about him. It seems as though she can't get enough of him but finally she get him out of her mind and moves on. In the song “clean”,the writer uses simile, metaphor, and hyperbole to portray that sometimes the one person people thinks they need can be one person they don't need at all. Swift uses a simile to compare how he is all over her mind.
I just finished reading Start Something That Matters by the founder of TOMS, Blake Mycoskie. I’m a huge fan of the concept of social business, a for-profit business where the main goal of the company is not to put money in the pockets of shareholders, but rather to make the world a better place. The concept is so simple, yet so powerful. In the case of TOMS, for every pair of shoes they sell, they give a pair to someone in need. One for one. In Start Something That Matters, Blake shares with us the story of TOMS and some great insights into running a successful social business – or any kind of business, for that matter. In 2006, Blake Mycoskie, a Tiggerish Texan bounded off to Argentina on holiday. He was 29 years old and running a "green"
My Sister’s Keeper, written by Jodi Picout tells the story about a young girl named Anna, who is the product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis and is born for the main purpose of being an organ donor for her older sister Kate. This novel gives us a brief interpretation of how cloning can have a negative impact into our society and in ourselves. Cloning may have succeeded during 1996 with the first cloned mammal, but can we take the risk today? Even though some people think cloning is an advanced method to seek answers in many fields of science, it can cause lack of diversity within species, increase the chance of a malpractice, and it is a procedure with ethical concerns.

“Against Love”, by Kathrine Philips, is a poem that was written in sixteen forty eight. “Against love” is based on rejection of love. There is a high price when it comes to love and there is no need for it, if it ends up being destructive. The speaker makes it indistinct that there is no need to get caught up in love and person can live their life content without being in love. There are countless thoughts that come to mind about the poem “Against Love”. The development, the history, and the person that put it together used many devices that has given this poem strength to last many centuries later. Love is not perfect, even if the picture is painted perfectly.
Friends are people that is important to all of human kind, they shares memories each other. Start from the first day we meet with friends, we write new memories with new friends and there is no end of writing memories with friends. The song “The Call” by Regina Spector reminds me to my High School friends, start from the first day of school we had many new memories that we shares, until the end of the school day with friends we still have new memories to shares with. Regina wrote the song for one of Narnia’s movie, she wrote that song in order to shows the previous memories of Narnia’s movie. It started from the beginning of the movie when the Narnia’s world bring the four young kids into Narnia then they together with the Narnia’s people having war against bad people of the land Narnia. Until the end of the movie the four young kids become high King and Queen of the Narnia world but they have to come back to their world. The four kids is become legend in Narnia’s world, even though they come back to their world their name is always reminded in Narnia’s World.
