Rita Sobhy Discussion #12 “The United States is known as a democracy. We have a system of government where power lies with the people because we vote in elections, speak freely, and participate as legal equals in social life”. Dictatorship can be defined as “a form of government that restricts the right to political participation to a small group or ever to a single individual”, according to the book “You May Ask Yourself by Dalton Conley. Conley continues to give examples of the limitations on “suffrage, censor information to the public, and arrange the brutal disappearances of no submissive subordinates.” “Also the biggest conflict with dictatorship is that people get power hungry very easily. the best of intentions can become selfishness
Comparing the U.S. governments ability to meet the needs of its citizens compared to that of a dictatorship is far superior. A dictatorship is designed to benefit one or few individuals that have achieved power using capital or force. Their only concern is for themselves and what will increase their power. The U.S. form of government is restricted to the power of the constitution.
The American democracy is one of the most peaceful kinds of government in the world although it is a long way from utopia. The democracy in which we live has many strengths and weaknesses. Neither strengths or weaknesses out weigh one another, but it is necessary to have both due to the varying definitions. A democracy is a government that is run by the people. The politicians that we elect to run our government are human and they are susceptible to mistakes based on their own strengths and weaknesses. The strengths and weaknesses they possess are reflected into our government but at least “we the people” elect them and they are not chosen for us.
Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines democracy "as a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by the people" (www.merriam-webster.com). But the one big problem is that "We the people" are not exercising their "supreme power" to determine the U.S. government. Less than half of the eligible electorate showed up at the polls for the 1996 U.S. presidential election. While lower turnout has marred previous presidential elections, 1996's voter turnout dipped below 50 percent for the first time in more than 30 years. It appears that the people's increasing cynicism about politicians that they lie to get elected and the perception that people have no respect or confidence in the
Dictatorship is a type of government in which the people have to follow strict guidelines for their behavior that the government sets forth. For example, Hitler set forth strict policies and guidelines for Germany. In countries, like Cuba under dictatorship rule it can create an increase in crime within communities due to food shortages by limits set by the government. In a system of democracy, in places like the United States, the filibustering between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party can create an unbalance of power shifting the power group’s focus. Republicans are more conservative in their ideals and are more resistant to policy changes. While, Democrats are more liberal and want promote new ideas for the policy agenda. So, the parties play a major role in creating societal issues because it provides division between groups of people due to contrasting ideals. Republic governments elect people like democracies to govern their government and also deal with the issue of corruption and whether officials are really campaigning for their citizens. An Aristocratic government structured with elected officials of a
A Dictatorship is a form of government that forces an innocent and gullible society to worship a mighty ruler. In George Orwell’s famous book, Animal Farm, dictatorship proved to be the root of all evil which evidently started a rebellion to form a republic; but later the republic had collapsed and soon turned into tyranny. The animal republic was slowly collapsing due to four different propaganda techniques in the story. First, it was the non-implemented ideas from the higher power, which helped the downfall of the republic, causing the animals to work harder for the ruler's benefit and not themselves. Next, the absence of opposition to breaking the law helped kill the republic, moreover, saying that the head of the government can change laws at his own will without the consent of others. Penultimately, another feature for the decline in the animal republic was the extreme gullibility of the animals, that consequently made the ruler a god to the dumb citizens. Finally, the dictator got too greedy, eventually making the economic system drop immensely and starve all the citizens. Gullibility from citizens is what helps a leader gain too much power and causes an endless loop of horrible leadership; this could be prevented if the citizens had more common sense.
A dictatorship is a form of government where the majority, if not all of the power is granted to one individual. The United States can be described as a dictatorship in several ways. For example, one way the United States can be described as a dictatorship is by government agencies spying on citizens.
It is without a doubt that the United States of America is not a true democracy. By definition a democracy is a form of government by the people for the people, in which everyone is entitled to equality of rights and privileges. Never has a nation been able to truly withhold these political ideas, including the U.S.. Simple aspect such as economic values, references to religion, and the adaption of the common core have caused large separation between the people of the state and the leader of the state.
Dictatorship is defined as a system of government where participation in politics is limited to a select few or just one specific person. Some countries that are controlled by dictators are Cuba, North Korea, and Russia. These countries are some of the most controlled countries that get most of the publicity in the world. They control with strict laws and basically fear. For example, North Korea has been in the media for the past couple years for their nuclear weapon testing. This not only is a tactic to gain power but also put fear into others. The way these countries rule is much different than that of the United States since the United States is a democracy.
A dictatorship is a form of government in which power is concentrated to one individual or a group of individuals rather than the people at large.
A dictatorship is “a form of government that restricts the right to political participation to a small group or even to a single individual” (Conley, 2015, p. 593). The United States could be described as a dictatorship when they treated African Americans as lesser human beings. Even after slavery in the U.S. was declared illegal, there were many laws in place to ensure that blacks did not have the same rights as whites. Then, when blacks did have the same rights as whites, they were still unaccepted, and socially they were still being treated as unequal. Also, the U.S. government knew about the discrepancies in the equality that U.S. citizens were facing, however did little to change it.
A dictatorship is a government ruled by one commander. An example of this is Iraq. Saddam Hussein is the dictator of Iraq. Whatever he decides becomes law. Dictatorships are similar to absolute monarchies in that they are very oppressive to the people of the country. The major difference between the two is that absolute monarchies are families inheriting their power while dictatorships often result from military takeovers or from an elected official who refuses to step down from his elected office.
People who are for a dictatorship can have a better life after or have faster success by accepting the situation . The people that are against a dictatorship life can get harder and they could even rebel against their government. These people feel like they have no control of their life and may feel insecure, frustrated, and repressed.
For the sake of ruling a country, we demand a system which can provide justice and also protect the basic rights of people. Basically, there are two systems in the contemporary world, democratic system and dictatorship. When people determining which form of government is better, it always comes to a fierce debate. For instance, America, United Kingdom, India are the countries which have a democratic form of government. On the other hand, countries like China, Egypt, and Cuba etc are following the dictatorship form of government. Thus and so, which one is better among these two types of government? Now, let’s have an in depth analysis of democracy
The government form of dictatorship (literally, ‘a chief magistrate’ from Latin ) is a form of government in which one person or a small group possesses absolute power without effective constitutional limitations , and is often stood in direct contrast to the government form of democracy (literally, ‘rule by the people’ from Latin ), a system of government in which all the people of a state... are involved in making decisions about its affairs, typically by voting to elect representatives to a parliament or similar assembly.
