Youth Observation Project I attended my younger sisters U12 select soccer game this weekend. My sisters team competed at the Vetta sports complex in Concord. The played another elite team in their division, who they had previously lost to 7-2. Each team had their fair share of great, good, average, and below-average players, however these tiers are all relative, as both teams were very good. The majority of players were white 12 year old girls, however both teams had a few other ethnicities represented. When the game began it was not to difficult to tell which girls were more talented. A handful of the players were able to make moves around defenders and create their own shots, while others had to work extremely hard and play off their teammates …show more content…
While watching I could not help but notice that there were a set of asian twins who had excellent chemistry between themselves; allowing them to be a force to be reckoned with while on the field together. Both teams were very competitive, which caused the game to get a tad bit chippy, as there was some pushing and shoving over the possession of the ball. However, the game never got too out of hand, and in the end my sisters team won 5-4. Communication is a huge aspect in sports, and both teams displayed a great amount of communication. Without communicating, especially in soccer, it can be difficult to know what your teammates next move is going to be, and the communication I saw definitely helped the girls play better as a cohesive unit.
Along with the communication between players, there was a great deal of communication between the coaches and players. These young girls are still at the age where they are not entirely sure where to be at all times, therefore, the coach would occasionally direct the players on where they should be in specific situations. Both coaches were white, middle-aged men, and had a very laid back coaching style. They obviously wanted to win the game, but they realized they were coaching 12 year old girls and knew this game was not a do or die
Teachers during my field observation have used many of the guidance strategies related to Morrison’s, “twelve steps for guiding behavior with children.” For instance, the last preschool class I observed was very large and wide. It had a variety of sections where the 15 students could choose freely in what area they wanted to play in. One of the guiding behaviors I noticed was the arranging and modifying of the environment. The classroom had ten spacious areas where children could play in the large space and not worry about stepping over others kids or their work. Moreover, to get the kids attention, the teacher would turn the lights off and tell them to “catch the bubble.” The teacher established appropriate expectations because children knew what action she was
As Christmas break approached, the team faced what was going to be our biggest challenge of all. Due to his new job, our coach now took the title of “assistant” and we were given a new head coach. The coaches were, and are, good friends, but have totally different coaching styles. The first was laid back and carefree with a great sense of humor, which made him well liked by everyone he coached. The new coach had a reputation for being arrogant, strict, and having a no-tolerance policy when it comes to joking around. Because of this perspective some girls held of our new coach, many were upset with the change. After we attended a tournament over the break, however, the girls realized that they had been wrong about the coach and he was just what we needed to help us achieve our goal.
The second reason is it is also an act of freedom. When boys and girls are able to play together they feel the freedom to be able to express themselves to one another. Freedom is an important thing for students to learn when they are little, when they are able to play together they are free to choose more than the same gender on there and they can be a better team. Freedom in our country is an important thing for students to learn and it helps them
September 27 is a day that I will always remember, no matter how old I get. McClain was competing against Miami Trace in a SCOL boy’s soccer match. It is always a close game when Greenfield plays Trace, but this year it was different than the previous few. The two teams were so evenly matched, even more so than than in the past. There were twenty minutes remaining in the second half and the Panthers were winning 1-0, but the game was even more highly
While other students were out celebrating the first week of summer, the New Albany Girls Lacrosse team was practicing for one of the biggest moments in their lives. They were preparing to compete in the Division II Lacrosse State Championship Game on June 1st. The team had one week to ensure they knew their plays, calls and were general ready for one of the toughest games of the year. Among this team there were twenty-five girls, and within this group of girls there were only two goalies. These two goalies, Kathleen Schell and Grace Anthony, had to hold the team together. Kathleen was talking to Grace before the end of practice and told her “I am really nervous, because I don’t know who coach is going to throw out there first. Also, what if
On Thursday, October 6, I was able to attend the UC Davis women’s soccer game on our home field against Cal State Fullerton. I arrived to the game with 2 other classmates about 30 minutes prior to the start of the game. The setting and environment prior to the game was calm and relaxed with music playing on the speakers. The weather was hot, with a slight breeze and many people brought hats and sunglasses since they would be sitting in the heat throughout the game. Everyone who was there early was talkative and smiling whether they were fellow students or family members, they all seemed to be supportive and ready to watch the game.
For all women's soccer players the road to the national team or playing professional began when they were children. Foudy was one of these players. Foudy’s achievements started at an early age. These achievements and hard work helped her become one of the many spokeswoman for equality in women's soccer.

An unannounced monitoring inspection was conducted on 1/6/2016. I arrived at the operation which is located at 3422 Richmond Rd, Texarkana about 12:57 pm. I was greeted by Comekia Island, the person in charge while director was at lunch. I handed her business card and then explained the purpose of my inspection and reviewed the subchapters I would be observing. Roshonda Epps the director arrived approximately a hour later. When Epps arrived I handed her business card and then explained the purpose of my inspection and reviewed the subchapters I would be observing.
I could see the girls were fighters and like a pack of wolves will surround each other in protection. I viewed the maternal instinct women are born with and a camaraderie known to anyone who’s played a team sport.
Behavior Observed: Upon entering the house Abby politely took my jacket and hung it up on a chair. She then ran up the stairs and asked me to come see her dollhouse. She identified every little thing in her dollhouse as she was showing it to me. She showed me the “windows”, “stove”, “soap”, “mantel”,
At the snack table “L” was sitting and eating cereal. And “A” was playing with the stuffed animal. “L” got up from the chair and grabbed the toy from “A” and threw the toy across the classroom. “A” started to cry. The teacher saw what happened and went over to them. And she said to ”L” is throwing a good thing. And she made “L” go pick the toy up and bring it to “A”.
The girls who played volleyball in the clip, are decent players, however there are some significant flaws in their gameplay. The first aspect that needs work is their teamwork. Their teamwork and lack of communication is poor, as the girls bumped into each other, and never set the ball for their team mate to spike. To improve this, name calling should be suggested if you are going to go for the ball, as this would minimise players running into each other. Another way to improve teamwork is if strategy was involved. There is no strategy placed in the game, as shown in the clip. The plays of the ball had only one concept: To get the ball to the other side. There were no sets, leading to no spikes. If the girls planned who would set to who, and
For this project, I observed my mother's preschool class and the three children which she baby-sits on weekends. Most of the kids that are in the preschool class were three years old, but there was one five year old. The kids I helped baby-sit were two twin three year old girls, and one five year old.
Child development is an amazing thing to watch in the way that children interact with one another and how they perceive the world that surrounds. While doing our research of child development we began to observe a group of kids ranging the ages 1 – 12. During these observations we noticed traits such as attachment, comfort, and love. Through the following examples we will proceed to observe development in our environment and explain its relativity to the text
