Mythology can be traced to many different ethnic groups because many values such rich oral and written traditions. There are many ways of telling stories, and through myths, many powerful thoughts and emotions, as well as wisdom, and culture are all folded into one outlet. The comparisons of mythology across different cultures is an attempt to identify shared themes and motifs in the myths themselves. In comparative mythology, the Hindu and Greek mythologies share fascinating similarities. In addition, parallel characteristics and features in the myths of certain deities. Zeus of Greek and Indra of Vedic are two such deities that share many similarities.

Indra and his brother, the god of fire, Agni was born from the mouth of the primordial god (or giant) Purusha. Other Hindu deities were born from different body parts of Purusha as well. The new gods then created the cosmos and Indra became the ruler of the skies and clouds who lived in svarga, or heaven, with his wife Indrani.
Indra was the king of all gods. At his command, he was the ruler of atmosphere and weathers. The god of thunder and storm, the god of war, the greatest of all warriors, and was associated with the cardinal point East. Further, Indra created the rivers by forming the mountains and valleys with his sacred axe. Indra was portrayed as the preserver and rescuer of cows, priests, and gods too. He was widely worshiped for his generosity, as the grantor of rains and giver of fertility2. He was known for his great consumptions of soma, an alcoholic elixir. From drinking soma, his appearance is “yellow,” according to Hymn XXXII. He was the defender of all gods and mankind against forces of evil. The most important legend of Indra is his battle with Vritra. Indra was also called the Vritrahan, slayer of the Vritra. Vritra, the serpent-demon, took the form of a dragon and stole all the water from the earth. To defeat Vritra, Indra drank an immersive amount of soma to gain strength from. Accordingly, when the two crashed, Indra could destroy Vritra and split open
