Beyoncé Knowles “A true diva is graceful, and talented, and strong, and fearless, and brave, and someone with humility.” Above is a very powerful quote from Beyoncé Knowles. She is known for her beauty, class, power, and many talents. However, there is so much more to this woman than meets the eye. She has not only used her beautiful voice to touch her fans and other artists, but she has become an amazing role model for girls all over the world. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas. Her mother, Celeste “Tina” Knowles, worked as a salon owner and hairdresser. Her father, Mathew Knowles, worked as a sales manager. Beyoncé also has a younger sister named Solange. Beyoncé attended St. Mary’s Elementary School when she was young. Around this time, a very young Beyoncé discovered one of her many talents. She began taking dance lessons and quickly caught her dance instructor’s attention. Her instructor saw Beyoncé’s potential and pushed her to become the best dancer possible. The instructor was thrilled when she learned of Beyoncé’s musical abilities. The instructor continued to encourage Beyoncé and, as a result, outsiders started to take notice. When Beyoncé was only seven, she was mentioned in an article for an award nomination. The star also competed in school talent shows where she won many awards. Even from the start, everyone knew Beyoncé was one to watch. As Beyoncé grew, so did her love for music. Beyoncé teamed up with Kelly Rowland, LaTavia Roberson, and LeToya Luckett to form the singing group Girl’s Tyme in 1990. Eventually, the group was signed to Columbia Records as Destiny’s Child. Destiny’s Child included Knowles, Rowland, Michelle Williams, and for a short time, Roberson and Luckett. Destiny’s Child produced many songs and albums. Their most popular album being The Writing’s on the Wall. This album features well-known songs like “Say My Name”, “Bills, Bills, Bills”, “Jumpin Jumpin”, and “Now That She’s Gone”. The group released Survivor which contained “Bootylicious”, “Independent Women”, and “Survivor”. The three released their last album Destiny Fulfilled before they parted ways to work solo.
