Give a Few Examples of Common Nouns.

Answer – Some common noun examples based on type:

  • People – father, mother, baby, girl, boy, teacher, student

  • Places – country, city, school, street, airport, jungle, forest

  • Animals – tiger, cow, sheep, pig, crow, sparrow

  • Things – bag, book, flower, table, car, tree

  • Ideas – truth, poverty, inequality

Explanation:

Nouns are a part of speech used to identify the names of people, places, things, animals, and ideas. They are broadly classified into proper and common nouns. Proper nouns refer to specific places, things, or people; they are always capitalized. Common nouns, on the other hand, refer to general classes of such things, places, animals, people, and ideas. They are usually in lowercase (unless at the beginning of a sentence) and accompanied by adjectives or determiners.

For example:

Everest is the tallest mountain in the world.

Here, Everest is the name of a specific mountain; hence, it is a proper noun and is capitalized. Mountain, on the other hand, is a general term for all elevated regions like Everest and is, therefore, a common noun. It is also preceded by the adjective “tallest.”
