What are Myofibrils?

Answer – Myofibrils are very fine fibers that are also contractile. When bundled together in a manner that lays them parallel alongside each other, they together form muscle fibers.

Explanation:

Muscles are primarily of three different types – skeletal, cardiac and smooth.

Of these, skeletal muscles are striated and their movement is voluntary, i.e., the result of conscious choice. In order to perform the movement demanded of them, these muscles are structured in a manner that makes them capable of contractions. One single muscle is made up of a bundle of muscle fibers. These fibers, in turn, are composed of finer fibers called myofibrils. These are contractile in nature, containing strands of the proteins actin and myosin – their interaction brings about the contraction motion needed to make the muscles move.
