What are the Three Types of Plate Boundaries?

Answer – The three types of plate boundaries are convergent boundaries, divergent boundaries and transform boundaries.

Explanation:

According to the tectonic plate theory, the crust of the Earth is broken up into large plates that move against each other, producing features such as mountains and causing phenomena like earthquakes.

The edges along which these plates meet are called plate boundaries, and based on the type of movement along them, they are divided into three main types –

  • Convergent boundaries: These are the boundaries where the plates are moving towards, and thus colliding into, each other.
  • Divergent boundaries: The plates along these boundaries are pulling away from each other in opposite directions.
  • Transform boundaries: The plates along these boundaries are also moving in opposite directions, but rather than pulling away they are sliding past each other.
