What is a Volt?

Answer – Volt is the SI unit for electric potential.

Explanation:

Volt is the SI unit for electric potential (or electromotive force). The symbol for volt is V.

Electric potential is the amount of work required to move an electric charge from one point to another against an electric field. One volt is equal to the electric potential needed to carry a current of one ampere across an electric field that has a resistance of one ohm.

While an SI unit, volt is not an SI base unit. In base units,

1 V = 1 kg m2/s3

This unit is named after Alessandro Volt, an Italian physicist.
