Where is the Stomach Located?

Answer – The stomach is located on the left side of the upper abdomen. It is connected to the esophagus at the top and the small intestine at the bottom.

Explanation:

The stomach is the muscular organ that breaks food down with the help of the acid and enzymes it secretes. It occurs in the upper left quadrant of the abdominal cavity, with the spleen next to it and the liver above.

Any food that is swallowed travels through the esophagus and enters the stomach through a valve called the esophageal sphincter. The food is then partly digested in the stomach and moved into the duodenum of the small intestine through the pyloric sphincter for further digestion.

The average human stomach can store around 1.5 gallons of food for 3 to 5 hours before it passes it to the intestine.
